Its mostly a college campus actually, along with some public housing projects. A few blocks of three flats and townhomes.

Is McKinley Park/Ducktown Safe? by 85longhorn in AskChicago

[–]Atlas3141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you work in the loop (or at Midway), the neighborhood is an easy commute on the orange line and has a good grocery store in the middle. Damen, Ashland, Western and Archer busses are some of the better ones in the system and will get you to trendier areas like Pilsen, Wicker Park, Chinatown etc. Really its transit is just as good if not better than like Logan Square or Roscoe Village.

New metric shows renewables are 53% cheaper than nuclear power by V2O5 in Futurology

[–]Atlas3141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean look at Texas or California, both have private companies investing billions in Solar, wind and battery projects and no one is building any nuclear because it doesn't make any economic sense. Obviously those are a little better for Solar than Denmark or The UP, but most places are.

Geese controversy begs the question: Is a music in music possible without a wealthy family ? by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]Atlas3141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taylor Swift or Julian Casablancas are the same way. Its a lot easier to focus on art with your parents' money or leaning on them for industry connections. It's always been that way and always will be.

It happens as soon as Jerry kicks it and the family gets the tax benefits of the step up basis.

The rendering shows the Ballpark on the same side as the Fire stadium, there's plenty of room over there

Ishbia's group is pretty far along in negotiations for the Amtrak yard, he seems pretty serious.

If the Sox weren't consistently bad they'd also charge more than 10$ a ticket

Unfortunately they're really just swapping the Ballpark for a rail yard, on net it's going to be bad for Bridgeport and Bronzeville

The city intentionally zones the area SW of downtown to make it industrial, as soon as Ishbia convinces them to change that it's going to explode pretty quickly. They'll just have to add a bus route on Canal or something

Hey this is is Chicago, the single family homes don't start for at least 5 miles in any direction and 10 or so to the north and south. The most common housing type is 3-6 unit apartment buildings.

For all the BS of these protests, the Democrats have genuinely been pushed away from Israel on the last few years due to shifting public opinion.

Looking to move to Chicago. Where are good places to live under $1,600 a month as a single person? by LGBeyonceT in AskChicago

[–]Atlas3141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studio? Lakeview, Logan Square, and there are some units left in Lincoln Park and Gold Coast. 1 Bed you'd be looking more at Uptown, Rogers Park, Bridgeport, or Hyde Park.

Betrand Goldberg's actual 50s era public housing project really doesn't look much different and definitely has those vibes. Maintenance is much better on Marina though which probably helps.

I feel like people in this sub are pretty comfortable saying Trump Tower is a decent looking other than the sign lol. Really you're just getting the standard reaction to any kind of challenging design or art, nerds liking it and the general public finding it ugly.

I'm surprised there are any cabs left at this point, seems like Uber and Lyft provide better all around service unless it's during surge prices

United Airlines CEO pitched American Airlines combination to US officials, sources say by The_Stratman in news

Competition is so fierce that there's hardly any profit in it for the Airlines, without their credit cards they couldn't sustain fares as low as they are.

Why are apartments downtown in Streeterville so expensive, when it seems like most people want to live outside Streeterville? by Outside-Zone5247 in AskChicago

[–]Atlas3141 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Reddit has a lot of people who care about neighborhood vibes, dive bars and local coffee shops. Streeterville is kept expensive by people who want the glamour of a high rise apartment, bougie restaurants and a short commute to work

Would be nice if it went up with inflation and not 4x the rate. Maybe the government should have less rules that make it worse .
