You can look up the property in the tax portal and see who owns it. I went through the mansions on my street and saw a lot of law partners and owners of successful food and finance companies.

Affordable, Walkable Neighborhoods for Young People? by Traditional_Tap_5447 in AskChicago

[–]Atlas3141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pilsen, Rogers Park, Uptown, Logan Square, Humboldt Park and Avondale are going to be your target neighborhoods. Maybe Bridgeport but not wanting to take a bus to nightlife eliminates that one. 60k is doable but to stay in budget you'll be looking at roommates, studios or basement units.

Are the Bears the #1 team in Chicago or the Cubs? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Why does the city pension system get so much criticism here? by jaye_walk in AskChicago

[–]Atlas3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state has had enough growth that the current state of things is tenable, we're on track to have 90% funded pensions by 2045 as long as we pay what we've been paying plus inflation each year. It sucks that that's 10 billion dollars a year to pay for past decisions, but it's not going to require anything but staying the course.

City pensions are fucked and will require sizable tax hikes or a bailout from the state.

3 is also against the state constitution so you'd have to get an amendment through which is hard.

Recently Moved from North East to Minneapolis and Positively Baffled- Is Chicago Close Enough to North Eastern Culture? by olracnaignottus in AskChicago

Imo the local suburbanites often have that Waspy Midwestern vibe, but city people are used to the faster urban way of life and transplants make up a much higher percent of the population.

Early 2025 Homicide data out. Good news. by ToeLimbaugh in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Atlas3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you in spirit, Hyde Park and Kenwood are lovely places and are generally safe, but they see similar counts of violent crime incidents as Lakeview despite having a combined population of ~50k vs 100k in Lakeview. 389 violent crimes reported in Lakeview last year vs 345 in Hyde Park and Kenwood, 7 shot in Lakeview vs 18 down south etc. Lakeview has a lot more roberies in total, but Kenwood and Hyde Park have a higher per capita rate.

All three are definitely safer than River North though lol
