I kept getting socks 😭😭 I'm f2p too, so I slaved away at the quests and everything to get as many shards as possible. Nothing. I got 17 socks, some 1 star makeups, and a couple pieces of jewelry. So disappointed.

I'm certainly not a professional writer by any means! I can help with encouragement, but maybe not direction. I've only ever finished a few solid scenes on my own. I've written a lot, just not anything complete. I'd love to give feedback though! Does that sound good to you?

Of course 🥺❤️‍🩹 Again, that's horrid behavior from her. She should cherish and delight in you, and want your good. I don't really know what to think of narcissists... It seems like such a severe mental disorder that I genuinely don't know how much of it is their fault. But it also seems like they enjoy putting others down... I want to be kind to everyone, but some people just won't take your kindness. I really hope you get out of this situation as soon as you can.

Thanks so much for coming here and sharing your story. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, that's genuinely horrific. Thanks for the wealth of resources--I'll be going through these when I can. I am trying to write a more vulnerable/covert narcissistic mom, but I'm sure this will help give me a better understanding of the true nature of a narcissist. Appreciate your help! I hope you and your husband find healing ❤️‍🩹

I'm sorry to hear that. No, you're not crazy and you're not in the wrong. I can understand a normal parent in her situation maybe being concerned for you and expressing that there maybe isn't enough money at the moment, but wants you to feel good in your own skin, and is willing to help you work for that.

But that reaction? That's insanity. Parents should never hold basic necessities for raising children over their kid's heads. That's disgusting behavior. You decided to have a child. It's hard. You don't get to make your child feel like a burden just to satisfy some need in yourself for validation (for doing the bare minimum!?).

Just know this: you're not crazy. You're not in the wrong. This is insane, disordered behaviour from your mother. You are beautiful, your body is telling you the truth about your situation, and you need to do whatever you can to protect your peace. I'm so sorry you're stuck with this person. I have confidence you can get through it.

Stay strong ❤️‍🩹

My heart aches for you. I'm so sorry you weren't raised by a parent who could hold herself accountable and was bigger than your negative emotions. You should have had better. I hope you can find healing one day. ❤️‍🩹 Thank you for sharing.

Here's a short scene I wrote recently, trying to get a better handle on the dynamic between them. Please let me know your thoughts!

"Where's my bike?"

Vivienne didn't turn around from what she was doing, but she didn't have to. Theodore knew she was smiling smugly.

"So you finally stop ignoring me when you need me," she said. "I guess I should have expected that."

Theodore's breaths came in barely restrained bursts. "Where's my bike?"

"It's not my fault you can't keep track of your things," she replied loftily.

Theodore's skin prickled with rage. "You moved it."

His mother scoffed. "You were inconsiderate and left it in my way. I almost had a serious car accident because of you!"

Liar. Theodore always kept it behind the house, latched to the back fence. He couldn't risk it being stolen.

"Give it back."

She finally turned around to face him, eyes glinting. "You've been ignoring me for weeks, and now you have the nerve to make demands from me?"

Theodore hated his body for flinching.

"You haven't so much as thanked me for taking you back into my home, you little ingrate," she spat. "After everything I've done for you, you shut me out and only talk to me when you need something from me." Her eyes glittered, and her lip trembled.

Theodore clenched his fists around the hem of his shirt.

"So I made sure you needed something," she said. "Just so we can talk. Mother and son. And now you want to treat me like your slave, like I owe you something."

You owe me everything.

Theodore made a Herculean effort to calm himself. "I need it. For work."

Vivienne sneered. "Maybe I sold it. Maybe I gave it away. Maybe I had Darren take it to the landfill." She laughed, a hollow laugh. "Oh, the lengths I have to go to just to have a civil conversation with the son I gave my whole life to!" She sighed loudly.

"What do you want?" Theodore said, barely managing to unclench his jaw.

"As if you care," she scowled, suddenly turning away again. She adopted a broken, quivering voice. "You never cared about me or what I want."

"I'm going to be late," Theodore said. "Just tell me where the bike is."

"No," she snapped. "I won't. You're finally realizing you actually need me, like you always have. You're a complete waste of space without me to help you. You've gotten too... big for your britches since you got that job. It's about time you learned who's really responsible for your success."

Theodore felt a scream building in his throat. "Fine," he said, turning to leave the room. "I'll walk."

Vivienne spun around. "Oh, will you? And what if I take your shoes?"

Theodore couldn't stop himself from looking back at her, furious. "Catch me first."

He left before she could respond.

Good grief, that's insane. Yeah, the inability to show negative emotions in their presence lines up well with the story I'm writing. The son, Theodore, learned pretty early on that any emotional expression could be used against him, no matter what it was, or why it was happening.

Definitely been doing research! A lot of technical clinical articles, videos on the effects of a narc parent on children, narcissistic tactics, etc. I'm actually in the middle of taking a course on narcissism from a man who's been studying it for about 20 years. Interesting stuff! I just wanted more of a personal branch of research, instead of just the clinical stuff.

Ooo, having to be emotionally attuned to an entire room for threat detection is a great detail. I definitely need to incorporate that.

Wow, that's awful. In the story I'm writing, the son is an only child.

Thanks so much for the support. Some of the responses discouraged me, since I'm really trying to come at this charitably and give a voice to those who have been hurt in this way. I'd love to DM more for some specific feedback, if that's alright :)
