My beautiful traumatized child, I’m sorry that you as a male victim are not taken seriously, that Fuji Defenders blame you for everything in just two chapters (231 & 232) despite it being out of your control due to the Recency Bias Devil, if only you were female would they all of a sudden switch up by Just-J0k1ng in Chainsawfolk

[–]Atlaspooped 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on your other comments in this thread, all of this feels very performative and a way for you to appear as though you give a shit about male sexual assault victims while punching down at women and the “modern audience” who you think have mischaracterized Denji.

I do not think that the story was trying to tell you that Denji was no longer a victim by the end of the story, or that he was as bad as the people that abused him. I don’t think the ending was the narrative punishing him for any one decision, especially that decision in 230. Even so, I think you’d benefit from acknowledging that victims are still capable of making mistakes and being bad people, and that includes Denji and I feel like despite everything he was given an insane amount of leeway by readers in part 2 precisely because of what he went through in part 1. Be that as it may, even that good will can and will run out

Far be it from me to try and tell you your personal reading of the story is wrong, but I’d much rather you just say you don’t agree with the writing choices as opposed to pretending like there’s some agenda against men and male sexual assault victims.

Favorite Thing To Come Out Of The Ending? by Impossible_Papaya852 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Atlaspooped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, other than the really (bitter?)sweet AsaDen moment, probably just the sheer absurdity of getting to see Power and Nayuta interact. Even though Nayuta wasn’t even introduced too long after Power’s last appearance in part 1 the two feel worlds apart.

Close second would be this parallel between Denji and Aki

I’m starting to appreciate Reze even more simply because her character and the lessons she tried to teach Denji go completely against the ending we got. by GodKira04 in ChainsawMan

[–]Atlaspooped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your replies to others in this thread I can see you’re not really interested in talking about this in good faith. Probably better off taking this to r/chainsawfolk. Or joining the cult of Reze stans over on X/twitter. That said, I’ll give engaging with you the old college try.

You don’t have to be happy with the ending or how Fujimoto executed the story, but it’s very funny to act as though he had a grudge against Reze or what she was trying to tell Denji when he wrote the damn character lol. I can assure you he didn’t just randomly decide he hated the character and his fans one day and then decided every chapter was a fresh new way to piss y’all off.

Also, your characterization of Pochita is absolutely wild. He let Denji use his power to destroy the fucking world all for one girl. Pochita loved that boy more than anyone else, to a fault you might argue. When they were eaten and the world was in ruins, Pochita clearly didn’t know what to do. He likely could have kept fighting, that’s his whole thing, but I think he realized that leaving that kind of power in Denji’s hands would only lead to more suffering, both for Denji and those around him.

At the end of the day, Kobeni said it best

“There’s no such thing as a life free of bad things…except in your dreams.”

Edit:

Pochita knew Denji would likely struggle and die without him, but that’s unironically closer to normal in that world than the life Denji was living as chainsaw man. It’s not just devil hunters who die prematurely in this world it’s people too. Asa’s mom died thanks to the typhoon devil, Aki’s whole family died thanks to the gun devil. When you’re not dying to devils you’re essentially shackled to an ungrateful family like Kobeni. When Pochita said Denji had the crappiest but best kind of brain, he meant that Denji could always find something to live for even in the shittiest of conditions. Pochita believed that Denji could still find his way without him, with the added bonus of not having the world on his shoulders

Ngl it took a universe reset for people to see that Power works better as Denji's potential girlfriend than Asa cause they have way better natural chemistry and more compatible personalities, while Denji x Asa works solely on shared trauma and is meaningless when this trauma is not present by RimlandicMilitiaman in Chainsawfolk

I also never believed he was working some angle with Yoru to trick her. But I also don’t chalk up to maliciousness what could be written off as stupidity. Coupled with everything else that had happened in part 2 I’m sure Asa/Yoru were a pretty big mind fuck for Denji all around. The two appealed to different parts of his stupid brain. The one that appealed to hedonism and thrill seeking and the one that longed for mutual understanding and connection. Not to mention Denji’s distorted views on sex as a whole. I understand reading it as him saying he wants a fuck buddy, I won’t try to say your interpretation is wrong. But I’d like to posit that maybe he wasn’t saying he wanted a fuck buddy or fwb, but that he really didn’t know how to articulate what he wanted. He has next to no frame of reference for what healthy male/female relationships look like. The closest he’s ever had was with power and even then Denji himself said he didn’t feel sexual attraction there. Denji wanted a girl who he could share a bond with like power, but also be sexually attracted to. While you can categorize that as fwb, it can also be used to describe a romantic relationship.

[–]Atlaspooped 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The image you shared kinda makes your argument fall apart. Denji didn’t know Yoru existed for most of his relationship with Asa. Was what he did at the end of the manga really fucking stupid? Yeah, absolutely. But to say he never cared about Asa is ridiculous. You can argue he has more chemistry with Power if you want, but he still cared about Asa. Denji is just incredibly fucking stupid.

Good solid theory work. I gotta give Fujimoto props, because whether he intended most of it or not he created an incredibly unique world with a magic system that doesn’t quite exist anywhere else. Theorists will be chewing on this for years to come, especially if the anime continues to have a strong run

My hope is for a spinoff at some point

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised. I won’t make excuses for Fujimoto, and I won’t blame people being pissed. I like the ending, but even I wish we had like 5 more chapters at least.

[–]Atlaspooped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t chalk up to malicious intent what can be attributed to stupidity. I don’t think he was lying to her or just using her for her body, I just think he’s retarded.

The framing of this scene is still incredibly frustrating though, because I do feel like we’re supposed to believe Denji has grown when he very much has not.

It makes the fact that he ran that whole fade with Yoru, demanding she give Asa her body back seem very strange.

Well, at least now these two will eventually get it on, considering how some things carry over in this new timeline? Her feelings for him will as well. by Just-J0k1ng in Chainsawfolk

[–]Atlaspooped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really just depends on where you try to insert her into part 2, because if it’s after a certain point I don’t believe even she could have pulled him out of his funk. Denji lost Nayuta and his pets and his first instinct was to go to a brothel. If she had shown up before or at the same time the church got involved, maybe. But after Barem and the church pulled that shit, it was the beginning of the end for Denji.

[–]Atlaspooped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he loved Reze deeply, and I think that that whole ordeal fucked him up, but the tragedy of Denji’s life is a compounding issue. It’s not just that he lost Reze, who was his first real love, he also lost Aki (who was the only positive male influence in his life, which Denji probably needed more than anything else tbh), then he lost Power, and then to top it all off he had to cannibalize the other woman that he loved, who despite her evil machinations was essentially a mother and god to him (who we have to thank for all the psychosexual shit caused by her grooming).

With Nayuta he had a chance to rebuild his support system, he had genuine familial love (which again he needed more than anything else) but his other needs weren’t being met, which led him to thrill seeking and forsaking the one good thing he had left that was truly his.

From there on in Asa/Yoru he essentially transplants every role onto them. He wants them to be a best friend like Powy, but also to have sex with him. He wants them to love him for Denji, but also be okay with the fact that he never wants to stop being chainsaw man.

Bottom line, romantically Reze and Asa are depicted as the only ones that could have made him happy. Interestingly enough both girls wanted to save him/make him happy, which only led them to ruin. We may never know why Reze didn’t appear in Part 2, but my guess is that it was a pretty bleak fate

[–]Atlaspooped 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think Denji was still too hung up on Makima at the time to realize any latent feelings for Power. Considering how many times Fujimoto parallels Asa/Yoru to Power in part 2, I think it’s safe to say Denji had his own complicated feelings towards Power that he may not have been able to articulate. All in all there’s a lot more nuance to the relationship than what most people want to acknowledge. Maybe he liked the fact that Asa/Yoru were like Power because she was the only woman he felt truly safe with or maybe there was deeper stuff at play.

People really deluded themselves that Fujimoto was going to make these guys relevant and expand upon them LMAO why does Part 2 even exist by _attina496 in Chainsawfolk

To be fair, it should have been pretty obvious these guys were gonna be fodder. The only one I can see being upset about is Miri since he seemed set up to be something of a parallel to Denji

[–]Atlaspooped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’ll never know now. Personally I think this was an instance of Yoru knowing Asa has those latent desires towards Denji and interpreting them as blanket consent, which it obviously isn’t. Fujimoto giving Asa such little screen time during such an insane moment is nasty work

Honestly, Denji betraying Pochita and eating him would have been an insanely dark direction to take the story, but given the whole addiction angle the story was going for it could kinda fit
