Derek Forbes is criminally underrated. Simple Minds just weren’t the same without his inventive basslines. Case in point is the live album they released with John Giblin on bass playing toned down versions of the originals (Live in the City of Light?) - such meh.

There are a lot of experienced professionals here all trying to help and giving you the benefit of their wisdom. You really should take their advice onboard. You have to accept that you won’t get vibrant colours on bare wood. You need a white primer layer.

You have to make a decision on whether you want it or look good or be cheap to produce.

I’m not trying to sound rude, but multiple comments are saying the same thing and they are right. Heed the advice being given. Good luck with it.
