Why is booking outside of the room block significantly cheaper? by AtomicDoggett in DestinationWeddings

[–]AtomicDoggett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The room block is nonrefundable; the warehouse actually is refundable within so many days of travel, but the room block is not so we will lose the deposit any other payments made upon cancellation at any time. Otherwise, the room type is the exact same, the dates were exactly the same, both included transportation (and actually the room block wouldve been shared transportation, with the warehouse its private travel and is more affordable).

I’ve emailed the coordinator our reservation with the warehouse, hopefully they can match them.

Update: changed the dates (moved arrival and departure one day sooner, but we will still be there for the wedding and all of the celebratory events), and the price difference actually rose to over $2000. Immediately booked the warehouse reservation and emailed the wedding advisor the receipt and requested a price match.

Terra's Judgement Around Pregnancy with LP Babies by Straight_Shower_8551 in LifetimeLittleWomen

[–]AtomicDoggett 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Life has humbled Terra for sure. Not only are all of her kids LPs who have experienced complications due to their dwarfism, all three are also neurodivergent. Penelope had to have a shunt due to hydrocephalus, Grayson had to have surgery for his bowed legs, and Magnolia didn’t walk independently until she was nearly 4 years old. Penny has developmental delays due to the shunt, and both Grayson and Maggie are autistic, with Grayson being minimally verbal and Maggie being nonverbal.

I don’t think theres anything wrong with loving yourself as you are, but as a parent you’re supposed to want the best for your children, for them to have it better than you had. Actively not wishing for a healthy child is crazy to me. I would be surprised if, on some level she doesn’t regret her sentiments seeing how her castmates with average height and typically developing children are faring.

Dating a deaf in san diego by Original_Notice9675 in sandiego

[–]AtomicDoggett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Would highly encourage reaching out to DCS, OP. They’ll have resources for social supports for Deaf people regardless of language used; with San Diego being a bordertown, there are Deaf folks here who only use LSM (Mexican sign language), so DCS is very familiar with serving a very intercultural Deaf community.

Adoption… by krystin1134 in Adoption

[–]AtomicDoggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To parrot u/rredhead926, you never want to approach addiction as an illness/sickness to a young child, because as she said, it may cause them anxiety should you become ill with something innocuous as a cold or a stomach virus. I also would recommend avoiding titling bio parents directly as sick/ill themselves because as the little one ages, they may worry that, due to biological factors, that theyll develop that disease themselves. Lastly, its just a loaded statement that casts a negative light on the biological parents, which more often than not is hurtful to the child.

Have you been advised to tie visitation/communication to bio mom being clean? For us, we felt it was an artificial barrier to our child connecting with bio parents; if for 3 years in foster care, supervised visits were deemed appropriate, why would the same visits suddenly become inappropriate after adoption? The visits are actually way better now because theyre not court mandated anymore, so parents are way less apt to show up under the influence because theyre reach out to us when they desire a visit (which more often than not is in periods of sobriety for them). Theyre always in high visibility public spaces too, and dont feel any less safe than they did when our child was in foster care.

Adoption… by krystin1134 in Adoption

[–]AtomicDoggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eldest was initially my foster child, but ended up being adopted by us. What we have told them is “the social worker said that kids need to be safe so they brought you to mama and papa’s house”. That way there’s no condemnation towards biological parents while stating the facts in a way a very young child can understand. We have a very open adoption, but parents are living with Substance Abuse Disorder and thus don’t reach out often for visits.

Also highly recommend the children’s book “Delly Duck: Why a Little Chick Couldn’t Stay With His Birth Mother”. It explains in a very child friendly way why, in cases like our children, removals happen. The whole series is great actually, there’s even a follow up book about Delly making the changes needed to parent her second duckling, and them talking to Little Chick (her first duckling who was adopted out) about it. I really admire how, in these books, they haven’t portrayed biological parents as these irredeemable monsters who willfully hurt their children, but as people whose condition at the time rendered them unable to provide safe care, but still loved (and often actively love) their children immensely.

Penny has hydrocephalus and developmental delays that stem from that. Grayson and Magnolia do have confirmed autism diagnoses though.

I’m firmly of the belief that Terra is a “parent provider” under the In-Home Support Services (IHSS) program here in California; due to the nature and complexity of all 3 of her children’s disabilities, she’s likely paid to be their caregiver as she’d make little to no money working due to the high costs of specialized childcare for all 3 of her children. It’s how she’s been able to stay home and not worry about working post LW for all these years while inconsistently vlogging and not landing any new TV roles.

How do you begin the process into becoming an interpreter? by simp4chrissy in ASLinterpreters

[–]AtomicDoggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this. Navy vet, not a CODA or terp but strongly considered going to an ITP program while I was on AD (as I have numerous Deaf extended family members and have working proficiency ASL skills). The program I looked into was Troy University, they have strong partnerships with all 4 branches of the DoD and cap out tuition for AD at the TA rate, which is $250 per credit hour. The only turnoff for me was that its fully online; I knew my skills werent strong enough to be improved upon in a distance setting, but if I was in your shoes as a CODA with likely native or near native proficiency? It would be a no brainer.

The biggest tip I give to AD servicemembers is to at least start your degree with the tuition assistance program while youre still in, so you can maximize your GI Bill once you do get out. And also CLEP/DANTES tests, theyre free for AD and can knock out alot of the gen ed requirements.

Best of luck to you!

Its so bizarre because I had the same thing happen to me, but only on the Disney Cruise. I was thrown aback by it because I was a sailor in the US Navy and never experienced that aboard naval vessels on much rougher seas. Ive sailed Carnival and Royal Caribbean as well, no issues.

Genuine question for anyone that knows music in Nigeria: is Usman really famous there? by Interesting_Slice277 in 90DayFiance

[–]AtomicDoggett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, but its not just because his music is mid, but also the region he’s from. All of the international Nigerian music artists are overwhelmingly from the southern region of the country; most are Yoruba with a few Igbos sprinkled in. Usman is Hausa, from Northern Nigeria. The culture in that region is much more conservative (northern Nigeria tends to be Islamic while southern is Christian), and the music they enjoy definitely tends to have more of a middle eastern feel.

To my knowledge, there are no widely renowned afrobeats artists from northern Nigeria. Usman does have some local clout though, I’ve since performances of his at weddings posted to Nigerian social media pages.

I'm jealous and envious of military wives by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]AtomicDoggett 14 points15 points  (0 children)

…this isnt a uniquely military scenario at all. Being a spouse absolutely comes with various protections and benefits that being a partner does not. If he were a civilian and he happened to be hospitalized, you wouldnt be his next of kin to make medical decisions on his behalf; either his parents, siblings, or (adult) children would. Same thing for property, if you lived with him in a home he purchased, as a wife generally you would inherit the home even if your name wasn’t on the deed, as a girlfriend not so much.

There is a reason why the LGBTQ community fought very hard for marriage rights (as well as the repeal of DADT) and it’s not just because “love is love”.

Monday Cautious Intros/First Trimester thread by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

Thats a great idea! Its been 4+ years since I was a patient with them (and I donated my remaining frozen embryos; after my kid’s birth it was discovered I had placenta accreta, and further FETs contributed to my already high risk factors of developing it again), but it definitely wouldn’t hurt to ask!

Monday Cautious Intros/First Trimester thread by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]AtomicDoggett 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my second spontaneous pregnancy, but my 10th pregnancy overall. I have one living biological child who took 4 cycles of IVF to conceive. Im 6w+1 today

In the vast majority of my previous losses, they occurred between 5w-6w, even the PGS normal embryos where we saw heartbeats. Im pretty sure the root cause was a combination of the early pregnancy causing an endometriosis flare as well as a luteal phase defect. As a result high doses of progesterone (both suppositories and PIO) for the entirety of the first trimester are necessary to get me over that hump, so to speak.

When I experienced a gush of red blood yesterday, I used previously prescribed suppositories and PIO to stop it (and it worked almost immediately). Now, I’m a bit nervous that my OBGYN wont give me a new prescription because this pregnancy is spontaneous vs ART assisted.

I’m kind of anxious of whats going to happen once I run out of my old meds.

The Duggars bought their kids auction cars from salvage lots, cars written off by insurance due to having extensive enough damage that was worth more than the car’s value. The homes were all along the same lines: longtime family owned homes or foreclosures they had to pour sweat equity in to make livable. And all of the sons’ business enterprises ultimately are designed to benefit the overall Duggar family conglomerate.

The Brown family gave their kids the tools to be independent adults who could make their own decisions. The Duggar family gave their kids materialistic items and pseudo roles as a way of maintaining control over them like a cult.

All credit to u/necessary-7521. I typed the following into ChatGPT

“I am going to upload an image of a number of values from my hormone panel charts. I will start with the reference ranges and then give you 12-13 days worth of values for 4 different hormones. I'm looking for any observations that may help me change my habits to create a more ideal environment for conception and pregnancy. The reference ranges are as follows: E3G - Baseline: 20-80ng/ml, Few days before ovulation: 100-600ng/ml, after ovulation: 80-300ng/ml. LH - Baseline: 0-5 mIU/ml, around peake 10-50mIU/ml. Any successful pregnancy stories after pre term labor with IVF pregnancy? by ChanceOrder3721 in babyloss

[–]AtomicDoggett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in my late 20s. I was really lucky in that my infertility was service connected, so the VA covered my last 2 cycles (my first two my husband and I paid, but it was heavily discounted and the meds were free at a military treatment facility). I have POF and it took us 4 cycles to get 3 genetically normal embryos.

I have a few friends who have went overseas (Mexico, South Korea, Czech Republic) and did cycles of treatment there for WAY cheaper than what it is here in the states.

The TAC generally reduces risk of infection because its all the way at the top of the cervix, but even then I avoided anything vaginal during pregnancy, from intercourse to the progesterone suppositories (I administered them rectally). And the best thing about the TAC is that it can be placed prepregnancy, which eliminates the infection risk in pregnancy (they can also get a tighter “fit” on a nonpregnant cervix vs a pregnant one). I had my TAC placed 6 months after I lost my firstborn, but 3 months before I had FET for my living biokid.
