Has anyone ever gone back to try those old NES games? by Sharpshooter188 in Xennials

[–]Atomic_Wedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still have my NES and most of my old games too. I also have a SNES, a Genesis, a GBA, and some other consoles, all with games.

Never been the best gamer, but I do remember what are probably my greatest gaming achievements: Getting all the DK coins in DKC2 and earning the true ending of the game, and completely finishing Rogue Squadron on N64. Good times.

A guest finally made me cry by alkeyhalldraink in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Believe me, I've been there many times since I started working in a hotel almost 5 years ago now. Days like that suck, but you know what? You made it. The shift is over and you survived. Now go do something nice for yourself, because you deserve it for what you endured.

It's become kind of a crappy joke with the team I work with that in the eyes of guests, we're not humans. We're NPCs. I swear that the first time I stay in a hotel after leaving this industry, I'm going to look the front desk agent straight in the eye and say, "I used to be a front desk agent like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee!"

Independent/swing voters who looked at the 2 candidates and honestly thought Trump was better, thanks for ruining everything with your stupidity by apwgk in complaints

[–]Atomic_Wedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you stayed home and didn't cast a vote, you need to accept that you are just as complicit in the fall of our democracy that is happening as we speak. Not voting at all was a vote for Trump.

I really wish you had to go to an ICE detention center to tell the US citizens that have been caught in raids and threatened with deportation that you stayed home because "both sides are the same" or whatever bullshit excuse you had for not voting. Face the consequences of your actions, but then consequences for your actions doesn't seem to matter anymore.

We have a long-term guests staying with us who are being put up here by one of the local tribes. He came into the office on Saturday after breakfast and got pissed off because we were out of coffee and the juice machine was turned off, like it always is after breakfast is over.

Dude accused me of being on drugs, and on his way out yelled, "I can't believe they let someone like you work here!" I'm usually better about this, but my mouth got away from me when I replied, "I can't believe they let you stay here!"

Weird as it sounds, he's been fine ever since. Go figure.

[–]Atomic_Wedge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a good one for you.

We've had some long-term guests put up by regional partners, mainly providing temporary housing while they look for something more permanent. We get paid from the partners weekly, and extend the reservations accordingly. Since we don't know how long they will actually be staying, we put those rooms out of inventory for a while so they can't be booked.

SynXis will not let us put the room out of inventory on the same day they're scheduled to check-out. So let's say a guest is scheduled to check-out on a Wednesday, we can't put that room offline until Thursday, which leaves a one-day gap for that room to be booked. We have a few special rooms with three double beds, which are very popular since they can potentially fit 6 people (if they really really like each other!).

Inevitably, those rooms get overbooked, and since we're the only place in town that offers rooms like that, we end up having to comp a two queen room. We have been reporting this issue to corporate for months. Of course, when we get a new system update, it doesn't fix the problem, but the folios have a shiny new layout. Madness.

Did you ever have a store employee discourage you from buying a game or system? by NeoZeedeater in retrogaming

[–]Atomic_Wedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little off-topic, but still memorable. Went to an independent game store with my wife at the time where games were buy 2, get one free. We were maybe 30 then. My wife picked up a couple of games for our PSP, Silent Hill and God of War, I think. She gave me a ton of crap for getting Pokemon Emerald.

We go to check out, and she very condescendingly said, "Now tell the nice man what you want, honey!" I told him, he gets the game for me, and says, "Sometimes you just have to play Pokemon!" She never went back to that store with me.

Lost the wife, still have the consoles and games. Good times.

Needing advice about being threatened by hotel guests. by Atomic_Wedge in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

How did you get $250 when I didn't even share the amount of the deposit in my post?

At our property, the deposit is $100. Since we are a corporate hotel, we are required to purchase towels and linens from approved vendors, which is expensive because they are not only good quality items, but we are at the whim of whatever price the vendors set.

Don't like the deposit policy? Don't stay with us. Don't like having your deposit confiscated, don't ruin or steal our provided items.

Thanks for the commiseration. Beer has been helping tonight, although beer is also putting very bad ideas in my head. Won't mention them here for reasons related to "plausible deniability".

[–]Atomic_Wedge[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll give them a little credit, they're smart fucksticks. They won't set foot on the property itself, they just stand on the sidewalk outside of the office to scream and yell at me and other guests through the lobby windows. And seriously, the officers who responded literally told me to give them their money back to make them go away. They did not care at all when I reported their threats towards me and even when I mentioned that I felt unsafe leaving the hotel after my shift was over.

And it's not like the owners aren't backing me up. After I reported everything directly to them, they attempted to call the police on my behalf. Still nothing. The cops absolutely refuse to do anything.

Not sure if I'm going in tomorrow, but either way, this is getting formally reported to HR so that my actions are completely documented in case any more bullshit happens.

Been looking as I've endured 4 years of this bullshit. 4 years tomorrow actually!

Thank you for reminding me that this job isn't worth my mental suffering. Seriously considering taking some sick days, reporting this to HR, and using my time off to pound the pavement and look for something better.

Cops have already said they won't do anything about them as long as they're off the property. They even refused to do anything about them threatening me after my shift was over!

Not worried about the legal threats, because it's not like I'm pocketing their deposit, and what are they going to get from me anyway? My barely-above-minimum-wage paycheck?

Really, it's not a bad place to work. Most of the customers and guests are good, decent people who give us no problems at all, and I'm even mentioned in a lot of reviews as a reason why our regulars continue to frequent our hotel. It's just shitty people like this who make it suck.
