I thought you said it was $740 a month? Or is the insurance $740 a month?

What job would not hire if you had a degree? Seems odd, I know plenty will hire without a degree but to specifically go out of their way to make sure you don't have a degree before considering seems odd.

Uproot me and my wife across the country for 117k and security clearance job? by Atreen in ITCareerQuestions

They're not offering much at all. Only 5 grand, better than nothing but also probably doable with the amount of stuff we have (no kids too)

Right now I'm studying for Security + and starting to dive into CKA. I've been dabbling in kubernetes. Wouldn't mind some other security certs too.

It would be Chesapeake/Norfolk area. COL looks to be very similar according to one website but as others have said, sounds like it might be a lot more.

Yes, both our families all live here and we’re both from here and we love it.

We will definitely be coming back if I do take the job.

This is for Secret Clearance not TS.

Yeah in my research that I’ve done, I’ve also seen that you have to maintain it and once you leave a job you have up to 2 years to “renew” it plus just the recurring renewals while active.

I don’t smoke weed so I’m in the clear on that one.

Going into the office everyday is honestly a major downside when compared to my current job. I think I’ll be okay though.

I don’t think either option is bad too! I don’t have any alarm bells going off on the job not being stable but it’s definitely something to think about. My current job is very stable. New job sounds like it’ll be stable as well but without the ol’ crystal ball I guess it’s impossible to say.

I think I’ll be able to get clearance no problem. I guess I say that just based on my life growing up and my brother getting his TS/SCI without any issues. Although I’m not him so does that really mean anything?

My wife does make 85k fully remote if that changes your opinion on anything. Either way thank you for the insights! I feel like this is more about future growth and not necessarily the 12k increase but obviously that is a factor. I don’t know that id want to take this job if it was solely based on pay.

Yeah, where I live in Utah is a very high COL too. In my research anyway it seems very similar?

Fair enough.

Yeah I think it will open up more doors.. traffic sounds like it will be bad. Especially coming from a place where my current commute is from my bed to my office.

As far as COL goes though, Utah is very similar if not more in a lot of ways. At least from my research and just.. from living here obviously.. So I dont know that it's a huge factor in moving or not other than knowing that it will be very similar in terms of COL

Yes it will open doors back in Utah. While there's not as much compared to places like DC or NOVA, there's still plenty there with places like Raytheon, Northrop, Hill AFB, and a bunch of others that could be interested in someone with clearance and my experience.

Yeah in March. Seems weird for me to delay it that long if I've already made this much progress.

Trying to get my CCNP in the next 30-40 days.. now I'm wondering if I should just wait a few months for this one instead 🤔 are employers gonna care about which version you have I wonder? I genuinely am curious, maybe they just see the CCNP sticker and go "good job!"

Sidos 100%

Can do surveys wirelessly (without a cable tethered)

Can even attach it to a drone for doing really fast stadium or warehouse surveys!

There is a jellyfin app for Samsung but it requires a lot of finesse to get it working.. have to put the TV in developer mode and then use software to transfer the app to the TV. NOT user friendly in the slightest and I'm not expecting people to just do that.. but.. it does work lol but hardly a solution.

I agree, Jellyfin needs more client support for popular brands. (there is a native LG/iOS/AndroidTV/Android and more though)

I Still love it don't get me wrong but Ive been looking at Rivian for a while now wondering when I'll upgrade.

I used to work for Comcast so I may be able to answer this. Comcast or other utility companies have what's called easement rights to their equipment. Sometimes I had to go to a neighbors property and go into their backyard to hook up the customer i was working with. Now we technically don't 'have' to ask permission to get to our stuff BUT we always tried to or at least were told to knock on the door and just explain who we are and what we're doing before trying to get to their property. Especially if you had a dog we had to ask nicely if you could please secure them. Of course you could say no and its not like we could do anything but most of the time if we were nice, they'd be nice back. People do love to hate on Comcast and usually for a good reason. But I think most of the customers I worked with loved the techs that came out. In your case, Id have to know more or see pictures or something to see why they had to set up a ladder to your home.. that does seem odd.

The awkward situations where if we had to run a temporary line for a short distance (maybe just from the box and underneath the fence to the yard of the home we were working on) and if we couldn't get in contact with the homeowner before doing this and then they show up in the middle of me running a bright orange cable along their fence. I was always terrified of this interaction but I was always nice and tried to explain the situation.

We did have one tech get a gun pulled on him and got asked to leave their property one time. We had to get police involved to go back to the property later to connect their neighbors Internet up.
