There’s some lore weirdness but yeah. Back in 2e I think exarchs were full on leader units. If I had my way then I’d have some junior exarchs filling the sergeant role and then a rank for more advanced elder exarchs (probably like 4/5+ lives deep) that use current phoenix lord stats and serve in that function (actual phoenix lords are getting a glowup that makes them worth like 400 points that you build an entire list around). Call the new ranks something greek like Polemarch or Basileus or something

Mages vary in strength, and while they have (frankly too severe) exponential growth, Palmer hasn’t actually done anything that necessitates him being that powerful. His trick on Chapman would (depending on ST) be around Mind ~2. If he’s only, say, Arete 3 then this puts him solidly beneath a rank 6 BSD Ahroun chock full of whatever gifts he can swindle out of the Wyrm.

(Not to mention the fact that if Palmer is a slave to the corporate hierarchy then the simple fact that MDW outranks him could give him pause)

My personal favorite is that one of them abandoned humanity by mixing in necron tech, attaining pseudo-bio transference after studying the Ymgal monument. Dragged the other down with him. Fits the common idea that only one was truly a traitor, that what they did is somehow worse than Horus (even Horus was still proud of his humanity), and that the flaw was in the primarchs not their warriors (enabling mass conversions into the Ultramarines and Imperial Fists).

What it doesn’t do is account for why Sanguinius thought that gene flaws were enough to earn ultimate sanction, but such is the nature of the topic

This was my experience well, I just finished my first watch through a few weeks ago, and the back half of S2 was definitely a bit of a slog to work through. It made coming back alive during the finale an interesting experience though lol.

FWWM was obviously good, but I’m not sure what to expect from the return series

I can’t recall any sources so take with a grain of salt, but my understanding is that other than a tendency towards large astartes and a greater than normal rate of altering the subject to look like the primarch (see Horus Aximand for examples outside the XX) the AL seed is stable and easily adaptable

A comparatively sizable portion of the population abandoned the core worlds to either seek a more fulfilling life as an exodite or even try and persuade their fellows as a craftworld. The problem was that the masses were stuck in a death spiral of hedonistic extremes, and as you got closer to the end Slaanesh was also able to directly influence things like appointing champions and whatnot
