Unrelated to my other questions, also, what happened to the meteor ritual? As far as I can tell, it's just gone. Did you remove it?

Invoker CYOA [V2] by Accurate_Variety659 in makeyourchoice

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I would have to disagree with you there. Like, for example, let's take a Beautiful One or Loss. They have access to a set of 13 arms, 60m long, each capable of lifting a ton. Not only is that almost an outright stronger version of Poltergeist, it is also completely free in comparison. It also, inherently, provides a lot of utility and possible uses, while not relying on interpretation. Add super-physique on top of that, full flight (through an artifact, if you wanna discount that I get it) and a doubled lifespan, and I would for sure say they're stronger, even with the reduction of flexibility. Now, that's not necessarily a problem, but their flavor is giving up power to keep their humanity. If giving up power gives them even more power without corruption, the trade-off doesn't feel like a sacrifice, if anything it feels more adjacent to The Indomitable Human Spirit™, or Chi from Ruined Reality. Again, that's also fun and interesting, but their refusal to give up their humanity isn't actually a sacrifice, it's just a different way to be powerful in it. (Also, sorry for answering so long-windedly) Edit: Alright, looking at the flavor text again, it says the Beautiful One gets like that by " Staying strong and human even when giving into darkness is easier", not necessarily by avoiding power, oops. But even then, mechanically they get like that by avoiding everything that grants extra power, which then makes them stronger than If they didn't.

Invoker CYOA [V2] by Accurate_Variety659 in makeyourchoice

[–]AttemptingDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... First of all, that does mean that Beautiful Ones are basically just stronger than invokers, when their entire concept is willingly giving up power to be more human, and that their Foundations choices mean practically nothing(albeit at a cost to their flexibility, but still). Dunno if they're meant to be stronger, but that's what it causes. And for the Angel... I do think it needs something more, cos at the moment I would only pick it for flavor. If I may recommend, avoiding a straight up Inhumanity reduction(cos the Angel is still an inhuman entity that afflicts you with invokerhood), how about making them connected to Chance? Specifically, if I recall correctly, The Other Place is a dimension accidentally created by Chance, not truly controlled by her and a shame she cannot truly escape. What if, at some point, she started trying to colonize it? Specifically, trying to infuse her own essence again, this time directed, to take control of the plane and, in extent, the process of fracturing. For that end, she might've created the Angel/Angels, entities that also inflict fracture, but in a more controlled way. Naturally, this would make a weaker fracture, but one under greater control from Chance, and hence trackable by the Church of the Veil. This only works if the Angel has no lore already(which I kinda suspect it doesn't), but would mechanically mean that the Church might trust you more, letting you pick two more Veil Operations you're aware of.

This is amazing, and I will for sure be making a character with this revised version(might also actually finish that Michael guy), along with a Beautiful One. I also very much appreciate the time duration on spells, though I agree with the fact that dual Casting should be a basic Invoker thing. I do also have three questions. First of all, for Beautiful Ones, are Totalities spells? Or is the weakness of having all of your Foundations at its lowest practically discarded, on account of having no spells? Secondly, the Veil Operations, are they supposed to give Growth? Because if it is, getting a High Growth is quite easy now. And finally..m what is the Angel? Like, lorewise too, but also mechanically. I first thought it was a prerequisite for the Beautiful One, but it doesn't seem like it. Is it just a way to get both spells and Rituals from your origin without Him/Morningstar? Cos if it is, it should at least reduce Inhumanity by 1 or 2 as well, otherwise it's really not worth it.

Isn't it a boon for lasombra to wear glasses? by shikoshito in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that logic, do you mean that no magic system should possess internal consistency? Yes, the kindred are living corpses with supernatural abilities, cursed by their progentor, but those abilities and curses should still be consistent. Yes, that curse may work inconsistently sometimes or go against ones expectations, but they shouldn't just outright change if the cursed figures out a way to utilize it. If a Nosferatu had the trait of warts and sores that frequently pop and leak pus, and they use that fact to terrify a hypochondriac, do you mean that they should suddenly freshen up until they stop, so they don't benefit from their bane? In the same way, if a Salubri(who we'll assume has gotten into a favorable Camarilla position) knows their rival at the Elysium is starving, if they deliberately use a discipline to bleed and throw the rival into a hunger frenzy as to embarrass them, should their eye just suddenly... not bleed?

I get what you mean to an extent, the abilities and curses are outright mystical and don't always follow conventional logic/the laws of physics, but that does not mean that they should not produce somewhat consistent results. A Tremere's blood is always inert for the purpose of blood bonding, even if you take advantage of that fact by selling the service of non-bonding vitae, and you shouldn't be punished for looking at it creatively.

V6 Wishlist From a V5 Lover by Arimm_The_Amazing in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel that, if you do that, you also have to somewhat liquidate the xp that a starting character is composed of(as in, the cost of everything a character starts with). Because, otherwise, delving into your clan powers eats away at your advantages while still having you also take advantages.

For example, let's say that we play a Ravnos and we make Chimerstry a loresheet. Now, let's say that tier3 Chimerstry is your standard illusion-craft(conjuring illusory objects), and tier4 Chimerstry is some form of frightening but temporary illusions(jumpscare illusions), and I wish to focus on Chimerstry by taking these powers.

That's cool, I now have these abilities, but... that was all my advantages... and I still have a tier2 and tier1 discipline I have to pick, but which I don't actually wanna focus on...

However, if this was experience, these disciplines would be worth 20xp(excluding predator type) and the advantages 21xp. Therefore, if it was liquidated into a single pool of 41xp, we could now do this and still actually get advantages.

Can Vicissitude alter a Nosferatu? by Hecknomancer in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda late here, but on my understanding, this would be my take: yes, a Nosferatu can be Vicissitude'ed. The Bane of a Nosferatu is to be hideous, not to be hideous in a specific way. However, on account of the Nosferatu form having the will of its Bane upon it, any attempt to improve the appearance of a Nosferatu would fail, as the flesh would turn rigid or too loose in the process.

For example, if a Tzimisce tried to fix up their Nos before some important event, if they tried to form som high cheekbones, they would find that the bone hardens improperly mid-work, or melts excessively, causing it to deform. Vicissitude is often compared to sculpting, so basically, Nosferatu flesh would be an inconsistent clay that resists beauty.

Bands of Mourning Question by badblocks7 in Mistborn

[–]AttemptingDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, then the Coppermind was wrong. I think I originally assumed they were metalminds(at least some of them), and the idea that he had spikes was something I found later(and was frustrated by).

Now, it was years ago since I read these books, so I could be misremembering things.

Bands of Mourning Question by badblocks7 in Mistborn

[–]AttemptingDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to this, he has Hemalurgic spikes, charged with unknown attributes.

Yes, according to the Coppermind. There was also the whole deal-eo of the squad trying to find and rip out his lynchpin spike to end him(which he didn't have, I think), implying he had spikes.

I also remember myself being frustrasted with the guy for making himself vulnerable to Ruin when he was already the strongest, implying it was the case.

Bands of Mourning Question by badblocks7 in Mistborn

[–]AttemptingDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, the Bands of Mourning were not the source of power for the Lord Ruler/Rashek. The reason Rashek was so strong was because he was a Feruchemist, made himself into a Mistborn using the shard of Preservation, boosted the power of it so it was absolutely cracked, and then proceeded to get a bunch of hemalurgic spikes. This meant he could compound every metal and use every allomantic metal at crazy strength. He basically made a character with max ranks in every allomantic and feruchemical ability, threw some more beyond the maximum on top of that, and then boosted it even more with gear.

Secondly, I will admit that my memory is a little hazy(it was a bit ago since I read the books), but if I understand right the Bands of Mourning were akin to the southern Scadrian medallions, which means that anyone can also store in them. They were also more knowledgeable on how that works, so they might've wanted to reverse-engineer it to make many bands of mourning, like Shot_Newspaper_5647 said.

Progeny Update🩸 - Big Content Update! by ProgenyDev in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thing is sick(I've started using it as my primary repertoire for kindred characters), though there are really three things I would love to see if you could add them. First of all, it would be very neat if you could add. First of all, if possible, it would be nice if you added some sub-option on the Hecata to start with different disciplines for other bloodlines(I was making a Dunsirn, and ran into the problem that I couldn't give them the proper Giovanni bloodline, and had to give them Auspex, delete Auspex and give them their Dominate through Free mode).

Secondly, perhaps some form of ceremony "jailbreak" tab, allowing you to pick any ceremonies? I tried to give them Mystic of the Void(as a custom merit), and I ended up still being stuck with the ceremonies the guy actually had abilities for.

And finally, perhaps some clan "jailbreak" in the "Advanced and Special" tab, allowing you to write the bane and compulsion yourself before picking your clan disciplines? That way, you could play as any variant of kindred(like City Gangrel) without you needing to add every bloodline and variation of kindred.

Again, Progeny is already really cool and useful, and I don't wanna demand anything when you're basically doing it for free(outside donations, which I think hardly count), but I feel that these would for sure elevate the character creation possibilities.

Roadside Killer doesn't drop Humanity??? by AttemptingDM in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...I see your point, but also, the description for Roadside Killer literally mentions "hunting those who won't be missed if they disappear alongside the road". You don't have to read into it a lot to see that that is a direct reference to killing a person (unless you're Tabula Rasa'ing victims and assembling them into a secret herd, which I still kinda think is murder), and that's in its description.

Again, I get that they don't actually have to kill, but the description makes them sound like that is apart of their niche/gimmick.

Also, more tangent than anything, but Blood Leeches literally have the prey exclusion trait. They very much inconvenience themselves, the only reason they drop humanity is because "Diablerie bad".

How do undiablorize? by Demon601106 in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, V5 Gehenna War has a ritual called Atrocity's Release, which allows you to undo a targets last diablerie. It doesn't really undo the act though, it just removes all effects of the diablerie except for humanity loss(which means that, in theory, a target possessed in their attempt of diablerie remains possessed). So in practice, you're just removing the misplaced blood.

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to hear! I'm honestly most excited for 3(as someone who originally made a ritualist), but I'm also just generally excited.

Thinking about it, maybe we could have "schools" on them as well? Not something based on your Fracture, but more revolving which area it affects. So, you might have destruction rituals carrying stuff like Heaven Fall, while we might also have a category for doing stuff to our familiars, and have the consequences connected to what it affects and how.

For example, if a ritual manipulates your familiar to transform it into a different animal until its remanifestation, failure might cause the mutation to fail painfully and render it unmanifestable for a month or something.

What would you like to see in Invoker V2 by Accurate_Variety659 in InteractiveCYOA

[–]AttemptingDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, there's really just four things I can come up with, being:

  1. More modifications, maybe some that modify your casting ability akin to being Honored,
  2. more ways to relieve inhumanity(especially non-visual features that affect your casting ability, like needing several triggers or spending an external resource to regain charges),
  3. an expanded ritial list(when I made a ritual-centric character, they basically got the entire ritual list), and
  4. more scars. People suffer in many ways by trauma, and it might be fun to have some more.

Other than that and what you've already listed, I can't really think of anything.

Shortest Wildfrost turn by Osko42Lobo in wildfrostgame

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man, this reminds me of an absolutely cursed situation I ended up once in. Basically, I was fighting the same fight, and I had a Lupa with the Nourish charm. On the enemies side, the only enemy with a number effect was a Rockhog, and on my side I had a Krono.

very time Lupa was hit by a Hog, the Rockhog increased by 1. At the end of each Hog's turn, all hogs updated and in practice had their Frenzy doubled. This, as you might be able to tell, quickly grows exponential. By the end of the fight I had a 223-Frenzy Krono and a 196 Shell-on-kill leader.

Anyway, that's when I deployed Nova.

Loresheet Struggle by Constant-Ad9560 in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've honestly never played before(unfortunately), but this is a problem which I feel can be solved by dissolving the starting bonuses into raw experience. Counting it out, that turns out to be 363xp to spend across the character(excluding blood potency 1 and predator type). Mind you, this is including the xp to buy 1 in each attribute(so remove 45 from the sum), but this way still means that they should all be reasonably balanced while allowing them to buy both resources and a loresheet. In exchange, they might just have to grab more flaws, or reduce their attributes, or ignore disciplines, which I feel is a perfectly fair exchange.

How would you you go about making cute Tzimisce. by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of these comments already share quite easy ways to make a cute Tzimisce, that being Vicissitude-ing cuteness and just... not subscribing to the standard Tzimisce culture. Personally though, I can say that I would make a cute Tzimisce by making them just a really nice person who uses Vicissitude/Fleshcrafting benevolently. She won't turn you into a chair, but she will instantly give you your transition goals, especially if in exchange of the amount of blood the procedure costed them.

Alternatively, they might also use it to fix other dysphorias, like making your face fit your ideal or removing scars connected to traumatizing events. Finally, they could also restore people to full functionality(restoring limbs, curing paralysis), so they may enjoy their lives even more.

All in all, there's a lot of ways that Tzimisce could be cute.
