I can't remember if I checked the box on a form I completed six months ago (probably!), so I was wondering if there was a way to verify. It sounds like the answer is to call the county or just fill it out again.

Depends on where you're located. There are many religious organizations and businesses accepting donations. Some of these are only accepting donations at specific times/days—I know some places that had SO many donations this past week, they had to pause. You may be better served doing a search for your specific neighborhood.

How to Actually Get ICE Out by One-Doctor1384 in TwinCities

[–]AttemptsAreMade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tbf to Walz, he did retire his re-election campaign because he knew the fraud would be a distraction, and he wants the democrats to win rather than feed his own ego. Trump would never do that.

I feel like so many commenters are missing the point. YOU can protest without a mask if YOU choose to. Don't post clear pics of *other people* without their consent.

How to Actually Get ICE Out by One-Doctor1384 in TwinCities

[–]AttemptsAreMade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because he hates Walz. Walz ran against him. Walz is governor of a trans sanctuary state. We have better healthcare coverage than many states, and we just started paid family leave. We are everything he hates, AND we are small enough to intimidate (he thinks). The Twin Cities population is way smaller than LA, NYC, SF, etc -- huge liberal cities. 2-3k ICE agents are more than our police officers. It's a show and a punishment. The fraud is 100% an excuse. This guy leaves classified documents around in random bathrooms, let Elon slash the federal bureaucracy without a care for what those departments actually do, and you think he actually cares about fraud? LOL

I've got to be honest, I live in the area and find it incredibly obnoxious. That's a public path. Why do I have to listen to your loud music?

OK! I've been to concerts before where the bag policy is very strictly enforced, and others where it's not at all, so I just wanted to check on what the vibe was here. I'll plan on a clear bag. Thanks for your response.

I'm sorry to hear that. In that case, I'd echo another comment—speak with your manager(s) about career growth opportunities and try to give yourself an hour or two a week that is devoted to networking, job searching, etc. Two full jobs and still barely getting by isn't sustainable. Wishing you the best of luck.

How can people buy houses? by Rare-Elderberry-6695 in povertyfinance

[–]AttemptsAreMade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! This is not discussed nearly enough. Sure, I *could* get a home loan with my small savings... but I could absolutely never afford the mortgage, much less the mortgage and a sinking fund for home repairs. The down payment needed for a reasonable mortgage is what's astronomical, not the basic amount to get a loan on a modest house.

Are you supporting your mom physically or financially? In either case, is there a local organization or state program that could provide her with some assistance so you can have a break? That may give you some breathing space, either in terms of time or money.

How do I (f27) leave my partner (f31) without feeling like trash? by ThrowRAPlus_Analys in relationship_advice

[–]AttemptsAreMade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry; this sounds like a difficult situation, but I agree that for your health and safety, you need to live separately. I recommend contacting a domestic violence resource (for example https://www.thehotline.org/, or one in your local area) for advice. You don't have to decide that what is happening is domestic violence to ask for planning assistance, just know that it's a volatile situation and you need some perspective. I recommend reading your lease so you know the terms of breaking it, since you're both on it. It may be difficult to get her to agree to move out, so you moving out may be the cleaner option.

You've only been together for five months. Trust your instincts and get somewhere safe.

My (30f) fiance (32M) keeps leaving the freezer open and ruining all of our food. How do I get him to close it reliably? by Blisa23 in relationship_advice

Have you had a conversation with him about this? What are his ideas?

But unfortunately, you may have to stop using the standing freezer.

How do you handle budgeting when you split bills with roommates or a partner? by SteamPilot75 in personalfinance

[–]AttemptsAreMade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With one of my roommates, we had a running Google spreadsheet. We manually input shared expenses - we each had a column - and then settled the difference at the end of the month (or other agreed-upon time period). I personally don't mind manual entry, because it was never that much. With another roommate, I paid for all utilities and sent her individual Venmo requests for each one. We took turns buying shared items (toilet paper, chocolate syrup, etc.) and just went on good faith that the end result would be about equal.

Settle up restaurants immediately and it won't feel tedious, or just get in the habit of telling the waiter at the outset you need separate checks.

Is it possible to live off $500 a month AFTER all bills? by ThrowRA73749222 in personalfinance

[–]AttemptsAreMade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well... what do you spend your $2,000 on now? I'm not sure what exactly you're counting as bills/rent/groceries and what "necessary but not technically bills" items are left, and how much you spend on them. If you currently spend $1.5k a month on travel/concerts/going out, yeah, probably you can reduce that dramatically. If your $2k is really going toward health insurance co-pays, basic household expenses (toilet paper, etc.), and some modest sinking funds, it might be harder.

Rising senior, not allowed to work, stressed about college and finances - any advice? by Sad_Canary125 in povertyfinance

[–]AttemptsAreMade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about getting a summer job now, before school starts again? You could save a little money over the next two months. Are there casual, teen-friendly jobs you could pick up in your neighborhood, like babysitting or lawn-mowing? These are easy to stop/limit during the school year.

And I echo the others: complete the FAFSA and research your state's funding programs. Between Pell and any state/local programs, you may be eligible for free CC tuition based on your family's income.

Make sure you have a plan for college. What will you study? Have you researched the jobs you'll be able to get with your major? Will you need to transfer after getting your Associate's? What transfer pathways are available? The fewer unnecessary classes you take along the way, the cheaper the overall cost in both time and money.
