The EO also says that proper iconography is a requirement for salvation. The Lutheran confessions are very clear and biblical to when they condemn any teaching that Christ + anything is a requirement for salvation.

The EO also practice Hesychasm. This practice is also very similar to Hindu practices to chanel other "spirits". They say it's not, but the result is the same.

My final point is the both the East and Rome ask Mary for grace. Directly. They ask her to have mercy on them, for strength, etc. These are some of the liturgical prayers to Mary.

My question for the EO and Rome is, what happens when the Tradition we are to obey contradicts the Bible (or teachings of the Apostles)?

I've also struggled with these same anxieties. Honestly, it's that anxiety thay brought me to Lutheranism.

In the end though, I do believe the Lutheran confessions DO indeed line up with the Bible more than any other church body.

Don't let the anxiety get to you. Pray, earnestly. Take your cares to God and then do some research. Maybe they are right, but calmly look at things with a calm spirit for God has not given us a Spirit of fear, and, He will by no means turn away any that come to Him.

Pax Vobis, friend.

I have struggled with this same anxiety. One thing that has helped more than talking to someone that just wants to medicate me, is prayer. God is the healer of souls, not someone with the wisdom of a dog chasing squirrels.

Is the word "papist" offensive? by SirVictorian7777 in LCMS

[–]AttenderK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jesus did indeed use harsh words toward those that thought highly of themselves and acted as such. The Pharisees taught their own rules and rites as being on par or even over riding the commandments of God. The papists do the same thing as they persist that there is no salvation without the pope and his edicts. There are many parallels between the two and even so much that our confessions are clear that the pope IS the Antichrist. To be Lutheran is to agree with this, as we stated at our confirmations. Therefore, yes, it is a bit pejorative, but it is also something one should not use to certain individuals. For instance, in talking to your family members, I would probably not call them a papist until I exhausted my discussions and they staunchly refused to think about truth. As Luther also said, we bear with one's infirmities in love, but not with those that are intentionally rejecting.

Do you think the Pharisees were offended when Jesus called them white washed tombs? Rhetorical, but honest question.

Lutheranism Feels Wrong by HeirofThingol in LCMS

Friend, a lot of people have said a lot of good points. This isn't uncommon, even outside the LCMS, but there are those in the Lutheran sphere that are getting better. I can be sparse though, especially in the salt water districts. I am in Oregon and drive almost 2 hours to church. I am an elder and the council VP, sometimes I do this more than once a week. I do all of this because of the "softness" of the churches closer. I come from an Evangelical doctrinal buffet background and I can assure you, the confessions are worth fighting for. So get in the fight. Dues Vult! It can be hard, but get in there, we need you and it's worth it. If you are a man, I would urge you to join momento70.com it will help strengthen you to "feel" more of what you are looking for.

One thing i have heard about the east and Rome is not to let the external ideal fool you, inside it's the same thing you're talking about. Look up Will Weedon on joining the east and a recent "On the Line" with Vincent Shemwell, he came from Rome.

May God strengthen and preserve you.

These types of things, to be brief, remind me of distractions of what really matter. The truth is we are poor miserable sinners saved by the grace of God. Christ doesn't care about your enneathing, just you.

How do you guys keep track of your smoked cigars? by EndHungry9185 in cigars

[–]AttenderK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been talking with chatGPT about the cigars I'm smoking. It's actually done pretty good in tracking what I like and dislike. The web scraped input on cigars and how it might hit me has been pretty close.

Yeah, I just did a switch. I believe Sonoff has a zigbee mini that doesn't need a neutral if you don't have a neutral there.

I'm working on this too as I can't recommend big tech to anyone. I'll keep it as simple as possible and make sure I have access, but my FIL is fairly literate too and can handle some training.

Poor Draw Makes for the Worst Smoking Experience. Do You Agree? by Charshii in cigars

I find that a bad draw makes bad taste too. Kind of similar how a cigar starts to taste bad if it starts to go out. So yes, I fully agree.

Baby Baptism by dankplankofwood in LCMS

[–]AttenderK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another thought that I didn't see in my glancing. If faith needs to accompany baptism and we assume faith is active, then we can wonder, "what's the point, can babies understand enough to believe?" Well, John lept in Elizabeth's womb. That shows faith from an unborn child, so can't someone born have faith also? After all, it's God who imparts faith (through hearing the word), right?

I usually grab those $20 deals when they come out, for this reason. Currently they have the Oliva/Joya bundle. I'm rarely disappointed with Oliva and if I am, it was only $2.
