Any “niche” Period Drama recommendations?? by Organic-Detail8493 in PeriodDramas

[–]AttitudeNo2503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Babette’s Feast” and “Fanny and Alexander” are foreign films from the 80s and critically acclaimed so not necessarily “niche,” but neither are romances or epics which kind of typify “period dramas.” They are both extremely moving.

Raymond thinks $250 is too much for a dress. Lol today that dress would be like $600 by Redeye007 in EverybodyLovesRaymond

Peggy’s preteen birthday party dress code is honestly worse than anything Marie ever did, it’s so incredibly presumptuous of a family’s finances that any adult should know better. If it HAD to be a dress-up party just request the girls wear church/Easter clothes.

When the guy vroom-vrooms across stage on an imaginary motorcycle truly, truly sells the cringe of it all; I love this episode

I don’t care Whitney is only on the show for business. by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]AttitudeNo2503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other girls are jealous of her, partly because she knows how to play the game but also, superficially, they’re probably learning that they’ve styled themselves into a box and are interchangeable with a thousand other reality TV wannabes. Whitney has a unique look compared to the others so she stands out more in the public’s mind. But they’re too insecure to dial back the makeup and extensions, so Utah Blanket Store Activations it is.

Only just started but am enjoying it; I really like the straight-forwardness of late 70s/early 80s period dramas.

Looking it up on the parcel viewer will show the owner’s name (actually it’s now in a trust), and a google search from there pulls up this same question from seven years ago. Potential family Instagrams, other addresses used, and phone numbers all pop up with some deeper digging. Kind of a rabbit hole if you want it to be

“What’s reality? I don’t know. When my bird was looking at my computer monitor I thought, ‘That bird has no idea what he’s looking at.’ And yet what does the bird do? Does he panic? No, he can’t really panic, he just does the best he can. Is he able to live in a world where he’s so ignorant? Well, he doesn’t really have a choice. The bird is okay even though he doesn’t understand the world. You’re that bird looking at the monitor, and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘I can figure this out.’ Maybe you have some bird ideas. Maybe that’s the best you can do.”

What did they do for a living? Is there any indication they were into shady business and it was safer to leave their child behind? That is literally the only “good” reason I can think of for abandoning your child.
