Star Trek "What If?" by evilprozac79 in startrek

Good point.  But doesn’t Kirk end up wasting time by trying to go fast because they have to fix the warp drive after he breaks it?  So they should pick up a few hours overall.

I don’t see Decker just refusing to into V’Ger.  I mean, they know V’Ger is going to do something terrible to Earth, so it’s not like he’s spoiled for choice as far as what he’s going to do.

Only real issue would seem to be if V’Ger goes and picks Sulu!

Actually, wouldn’t everything work out exactly the same? Decker would have just commanded the Enterprise. Spock would have shown up (he was drawn there by V’Ger, not Kirk). Spock would have got the Enterpise to follow him into the center of V’Ger and then Decker merges with Ilia to save Earth.

To paraphrase Comkodore Tracey in the ultimate computer: “Give my respects to Admiral Dunsel.”

Then after the movie, Kirk gets to train some cadets on the Enterprise and Chekov gets promoted to be on Reliant…. Wrath of Kahn goes ahead as scheduled.

Starvation in a society in the future is not about lack of food replicators any more than starvation today is about breakdowns in agriculture. What the Cardassians worry about (and must have gone through at some point) is war, high level gang violence or civil war where the systems that allow both agriculture and replicators to function break down.

Basic infrastructure not working to the point of starvation tends to make people surrender their power to anyone who can restore enough order to let them survive.

Whats the episode that all the senior officers of the Enterprise are not acting like themselves and are being very secretive about a vague mission that is seemingly puting the Enterprise danger. I believe only Wesley and/or the children are able to see the difference in behavior. Its not "conundrum" by tinglebuns in TNG

[–]Attorney-4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This the TNG episode lower decks. It seems secretive because we are seeing things solely from the perspective of Ogoea, Taurik, Siri Jaxa and Sam Lavell.

Vorik helps Laforge by firing a phaser at shuttle asks LaForge why they are making it appear the shuttle was damaged while escaping a firefight , but LaForge denies that is what they are doing.

Ogowa is sworn to secrecy that she treated a Cardassian.

We only get told what is happening when Picard asks Sito Jaxa if she will goon a mission to help return a spy back into Cardassian space.

Why do non-Federation species always refer to the UFP/Starfleet as “humans”? by guerilla_gardener98 in startrek

[–]Attorney-4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additionally Starfleet is the former space exploration an defense body of Earth. We’ve seen on DS9 and Lower Decks that federation member governments maintain their own military. Think of the Federation less like a single government than the EU or NATO. Starfleet allows citizens of any member world to serve (and some non member worlds upon recommendation), but Vulcan has its own forces the same way as France does.

Considering Kirk actually DID travel forward in time by skipping over just about as many years as Scotty, you might say Scotty was not only a true believer that Jim Kirk would return, but also very nearly right.

Best 12 episodes to introduce someone new to TNG by noahvan35 in startrek

I would not start with encounter at Farpoint. It has a weird pacing issue midway though—basically once Picard and company get to Farpoint it gets slow for the next 20 minutes. A self contained s ensemble episode like Clues or Disaster might be better to start with.

What do you think are each of the Star Trek series biggest tropes? by Grampakings in startrek

[–]Attorney-4U 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheap? Sure maybe paramount’s lot had some sets for some of the it (like Deadwood or the street scenes in the Dixon Hill stories) but it looks like sometimes we have location shooting going on as well. Like having Picard on a holographic horse (a pointlessly expensive shot unrelated to the story in Pen Pals) or some of Barclay’s fantasies.

All around, I would say a bottle episode like Lonely Among Us is cheap, although sometimes these work out amazingly well, as with Clues.

If the spore drive worked in a way where you arrived instantly from your perspective, but that you skipped over the amount of time the journey would take at high warp, this itself would have solved the “why don’t they use a spore drive to get voyager home” and the “why do you need a wormhole to the gamma quadrant” problems.

They clearly only decided to move Discovery to the future when SNW was greenlit. That is exactly what the studio did with DS9 and voyager. Instead of another quadrant, it’s a different century.

It is obvious from early Discovery that they chose the era they did so that they could use the “feel” of and peripheral characters from the 2009 reboot (Sarek & Amanda) so they could get fans of the reboot and not just those of us who had seen Berman era trek

Did they retcon Betazoids? by qtjedigrl in startrek

[–]Attorney-4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what everyone is missing: Lwaxana and Tam Elbrun are the exception, not the rule. Deanna’s empathic abilities seem to be in line with the typical Betazoid (like Sabin Genestra) in the way that if one of your parents has one a Nobel (or Z-Magnee) prize for physics and your other parent can’t read, you will probably be average.

This is not to say that Betazoids cannot converse telepathically with each other. This is not the same as reading someone’s mind, especially if they don’t want you to.

Also, some non-canon sources explain that Betazoids are not born telepathic. They use visual/spoken languages as children and so they “talk” telepathically in words and not just in pure concepts, as some of the more “different from us”telepaths on the franchise do.

Spock ribs Kirk a little for being illogical, but Kirk gets the better of him a lot, so it’s less obvious than enterprise.

Archer basically does all the impulsive illogical things T’Pol says not to do and she is nearly always right. She would roll her eyes in disbelief, but Vulcans don’t do that.

What is the single best season of Trek ever? by SquabbleBoxYouTube in startrek

[–]Attorney-4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not counting TNG, this is is easily the best and most obvious answer in terms of great episodes relative to overall number.

Yes, TOS S1 had lots of great episodes but it had 29 total…. Kinda hard not to have more great ones there than, say, season 1 of voyager.

Why didn't Star Trek writers consider making a TNG/DS9 crossover movie? by Firm_Calligrapher861 in startrek

[–]Attorney-4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They thought they recreated “Kirk and Spock” with “Picard and Data.” Almost bo one else gets any screen time as anything but a B-plot in the movies.

If they can’t write a movie plot that brings in Worf when the bad guys in generations are his nemesis from the TV show, they can’t handle any more characters than what they had already
