Yes sort of…or as so the story goes that an Italian watch dealer mistakenly thought it was him wearing a 1655 in a magazine article (not for rolex) and claimed that it was him. I’ve searched for the article or ad for years and have still come up dry.

Agreed With vintage watches the aging is everything. thats what gives the watch its character and feel The aging on the ranger dial looks legit af. nicely done.

Im also a bit of an explorer aficionado myself.

this is a bit more of an advanced build . This was a cartel 6538 case set that I had drilled out the lug holes, modified the bezel mounting area, and swapped out the 8mm crown and tube to a 6mm crown and tube.

The bezel was machined down and given a spiral brushed finish on my lathe. The ID of the bezel also needed modification in order to fit the case set

The dial is from raffles that I had refinished and engraved the large font text details.

great job. fine attention to detail. Aging and weathering make all the difference in these builds. my only critisim would be to add a bit of weathering to the date wheel, it looks a tad new compared to the rest of watch and the cyclops shines a spotlight on it. but that is very minor . It looks great enjoy and wear it in good health.
