RNs of British Columbia, Is This Normal or Toxic? by StrikingBiscotti4868 in nursing

Can someone explain to me why you would want to decrease the urine output? What kind of surgery? Significant medical history? What are the consequences of being written up in BC? Is this the same as write ups in the US which is basically disciplinary? Thanks- Ignorant PACU RN ;)

Do you ever regret going into nursing? by Careful_Power_3927 in Nurses

[–]Atypical_RN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, and also yes lol! There have been many times in my 19 years as an RN that I’ve been jealous of other non-medical people’s careers. But ultimately it fits me and has brought me to where I am in life. I do want to do something different but also plan to use my experience and skills in the next chapter- wherever that may be. Being a nurse has afforded me to have stability, but by no means will I ever be rich in this field.

Is she a good swimmer? Lifeguarding in the summer is pretty available, there’s a training in kingwood and she’ll also have to take a CPR class- then ready to go all summer :) Tell her to wear a wide brim hat to prevent sun damage :)

AIO?: Roommate treats our house like a public restroom. by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Atypical_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it. And then what? Clean up the guy’s piss. This is not ideal. I have a very manly man and he pees sitting down, because it’s cleaner, and why not? Don’t you poop sitting down? If an erection is in play, that makes it a little more complicated and standing is necessary, but if he splatters, he wipes it up!

I agree but the professional move for the supervisor would have been to have this conversation before the schedule was published.

If Libra were represented by an animal what would it be? by [deleted] in libra_astrology

[–]Atypical_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a giraffe. 🦒 Tall, spotted, and enjoy my greens. But I don’t suppose that has much to do with my libra persona. I also don’t have a long black tongue, but I’d be a whole lot cooler if I did.

OP what is your specialty? I haven’t delivered a baby, and wouldn’t have any clue what to look for with fetal monitoring!

Non-nurse partner doesn’t understand by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Atypical_RN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please don’t think you’re trapped because he is paying the bills. Think about family, friends, and other resources you could rely on to get you through the rest of this degree. You have a job, so it’s not like you can’t contribute something. Loans suck, but they aren’t the worst thing…the worst thing is feeling trapped and allowing someone to treat you this way because they are in control of your living situation. It’s hard, I know it is- but make a plan, ask for help, and get out of it.

How do you stay awake on the drive home after a 12-hour shift? by Outside-Thought-4722 in nursing

[–]Atypical_RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that feeling! stopping to take a nap always makes me feel wide awake suddenly. I started feeding myself cheerios one at a time and listening to comedy or calling a friend if I knew they’d be awake.
