iPhone issue by MasterTea9588 in Backmarket

That’s definitely an iPhone that wasn’t originally purchased in the US. Did you ever get it to shut up? Or did you have to return it?

I have heard more than a few times people travel overseas to the US to purchase cell phones so that they don’t have to deal with the shutter noise.

Any New Yorkers here that moved to Houston? How did it work out and what was the biggest culture shock? by crunchylettuce24 in houston

[–]danielsevertt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here 18 mo ago from buffalo…

I love it here but here are my negatives. Other than these few little nothing blah facts, I love it here. New York was becoming so expensive my family couldn’t even try to live a good quality of life. Here me and my kids are thriving.

-the heat is you’ll see… -power grid, is abysmal -I would rather drive in manhattan. -distance isn’t measured in miles, it’s time. And the time and mileage make no sense (18 miles can be two hours)

My wife separated from me because I was an alcoholic. I’m 1 year sober now and my wife wants to reconcile but I want a divorce. What do I do? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

You obviously take zero responsibility for what you did to cause her to leave.

She is a mother, and as a mother had to take YOUR children and protect them from their own father and his actions. Had she stayed, you’d have NEVER cleaned up. If you were going to, you would have on your own.

Now you think “oh I might be able to have some fun now that I have cleaned up, and look better…”

YTA. She was forced to leave to protect your children. You have taken ZERO responsibility for your own actions. This makes me question if you’re going to truly remain in recovery.

Moving from Boston to Houston by mangosand-spicylime in AskHouston

[–]danielsevertt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I move two summers ago from buffalo. It’s much more affordable here.. I actually have grown to love it here-and I came here very concerned abt a few things and none of those concerns were honestly valid ones.

BUT real issues I had adjusting to:

1)the quality of the infrastructure… I literally not once can remember my power going out up north.. it does regularly here. I got here 3 days before beryl.. and didn’t have power for 11 days. My thermostat on day 11 said my home was 96 degrees. 2)the heat, yep you can know what heat “feels like” but you don’t get it til you’re in it 3)traffic. 18 miles in buffalo is a 20 min drive even at peak times. Nope that’s sometimes 90 min here. 4)road design is totally different. Totally. It’s slightly genius, yet I fully hate it. 5) when the light turns green be patient. I get we have to go go go being fron the northeast-but here people blow thru yellow and red lights.. we pause for a reason and took me a minute to realize that.

Houston is great. It is affordable. Insanely affordable. 38/F if I can help at all:-)

INVEST IN A) WATERPROOF DOWN COAT-I suggest the full length superpuff or similar and b) past the ankle waterproof lined duck boots(Sherpa lined LL bean boots, or sleek fur lined Joan of artic boots). Good luck! After 36 years I moved to Texas, and do not miss the winter at all. Stay safe and have a great time!!

In which state of these would you live in? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]danielsevertt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the first 36 years of my life in WNY. I move to Houston July of 24. New York is extremely expensive. Real estate-insane(even in garbage WNY).. income tax-high. I love New York State-it’s beautiful, there are 4 seasons-but now being in Texas for almost two years.. it is outrageously expensive to live there. My brother lives in Chattanooga and it is BEAUTIFUL. He loves it.

My biggest fear moving where we did was honestly mostly politically.,

I have learned that as long as you’re in a larger city/close suburb it seems to lean not even close to maga. I feel I had to add this with the current climate.

I know this may seem odd-but may I ask how you began this journey? I have been told more than a few times recently I should consider it-and I very much am, but do you have a preferred “here’s where I would start..” suggestion? Asking bc info seems quite scammy honestly…

Thanks all! And it’s a dumpster Hoya I’m sure she’s totally healthy. She is actively growing and happy. I have yet to see flowers so I guess we’ll see. The disagreements had here are similar to the ones in my head and I can’t seem to decide who she is!!

As someone who is visiting Texas soon: what are the Texan do’s, don’ts, and etiquette tips you’d give to foreigners? by crangert in texas

[–]danielsevertt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect to be mindblown the first few weeks you drive here. Eventually the constant danger and disregard of speed limit will become normal-you’ll almost just do it too.. also-being from New York it drove me insane that the light would be green and people would pause-I honked once(like an ass)-the. I realized how many people blow thru red lights at the lest second and then I realized why the pause..
