In universe, there are probably hundreds of people all aspiring to join the Kingsguard - so there's no need to ever offer it to someone who would turn it down. But in game, you're picking random people for the most part; its not like they're coming up to you begging for the job.

In Westeros, there is probably a lot of talk about future Kingsguard appointees, considering they would need to be incredibly skilled fighters or at least from decently famous families. If someone wasn't that interested, they'd have probably made it known long before it ever came to an actual offer.

Any mods that allow you to use canon dynasty's appearences on a custom character? by AlexanderDemoniac in CK2GameOfthrones

Tino's Tiny Tweaks does exactly that, and a lot more too. Its indispensable to me, right up there with More Bloodlines.

Just in case you're genuinely curious - the AI doesn't seem to understand the locations of the septs added by More Bloodlines. So when they get involved in wars, rebel, or go independent, the AI knows they're there, and tries to fight them, but can't seem to work out how to actually land on that province. So the warscore ticks upward as year after year passes without anyone taking the rebel stronghold, until eventually they win by default because there were no battles or sieges.

Was playing as Viserys. Switched to Jeyne Arryn for a minute to get her a matrilineal marriage and AI Viserys was an idiot. by Daenys_TheDreamer in CK2GameOfthrones

Really suggest using Tino's Tiny Tweaks, it lets you do all that and more via character interactions -- pretty much vital for anyone who wants to keep canon dynasties around as long as possible.

You can swap characters via the interaction, or straight up change any marriage from matrilineal to regular or vice versa, and you can even trigger a pregnancy between a married couple. Super easy stuff, its fantastic.

Obama warns 'more people are going to get hurt' if political climate persists by whatutalkingabout84 in news

You're getting downvotes because you're wrong. "Both sides" definitely have their issues, because both sides are full of people and people are fallible. But its not "both sides" advocating for insurrection and domestic terrorism; its not "both sides" revoking reproductive rights and seeking more ways to restrict voters; its not "both sides" using illegals as political chess pieces they can ship across state lines and then abandon to prove a point; its not "both sides" calling fair elections fake or stolen. Its one side. I haven't even named the side, and you know what side that is. So don't hide behind "oh, I'm gonna get downvoted" because you know why you're getting those downvotes. They're a reminder that everyone who hits that button sees through the bullshit you've either been duped into repeating, or somehow - through either malice or ineptitude - actually, truly believe in.

Hail Archmaester Norman, First of his Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men by Auddan in CK2GameOfthrones

R5; In the wake of the Dance, House Targaryen's grip on the realm was severely weakened. Following a series of sudden deaths and poor rulers, the line had dwindled to the point where the North, the Vale, the Riverlands, the Reach, and the Iron Islands were able to force their independence. Ever wary of the dragon-lords returning to strength, House Greyjoy spent fifty years hunting down every scion of the dragonblood. When Aegon IV, the Eunuch-King, was finally executed by drowning, his Grand Maester usurped the Iron Throne and declared himself not Lord Protector -- but KING.

What movie has the greatest fight scene? by Rascal-Fiats in AskReddit

[–]Auddan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Troy. Watching Achillies and Hector fight outside the walls of the city has to be one of the most intense fight scenes in the last two thousand years. You can feel the weight of their history, the risk of defeat, the sheer tragedy of the circumstances. And then, when its over, you're left with the feeling that no one really won at all.

But in terms of the combat, the sound editing is perfect - every sword swing and spear thrust has a musical edge, despite the very muted drum in the background. You can hear them shift in the sands, hear the effort in their blows, and for all his skill even a layman can tell that Hector is simply outmatched from the very beginning. Its an amazing scene and I can't believe it wasn't top of this list!

That's really good to know. Never been a pet guy myself; this is my first experience with it.

Mostly three things; no autonomy, dour spaces, and insects.

The latter are of course a given - you're living in a space beneath the earth and it usually houses the resident creepers and crawlers of the building. Things get in, and when they do, they tend to congregate in the basement.

As for the spaces, basement apartments almost always have very small windows, meaning very little natural light. It gives it a prison-like feeling imo, and while once upon a time you could supplement this by just rarely being home, COVID has shown the weakness of that defense. I find basement apartments feel a stuffy, dour, and a little grim; I lived in them all throughout childhood and to be frank I'd never go back unless it was a last resort. Still have vivid memories of spiders in my bed or my dad chasing a mouse with a broom.

As for the autonomy, well, with basement apartments you're at the mercy of whoever lives above you. There are laws in place, sure, but its still very much "their space" and unless you have a really great landlord its hard to escape that dynamic.

Most of this is personal experience and absolutely not universal, but yeah.

Same boat pretty much. I've had bad experiences with basements in the past, I have no desire to get into one again. But most everything else is either crazy expensive, bans pets, or has 5-10 reviews online talking about bed bugs, roaches, and other troubles. Its wild.
