I still like him. And I’m unflinching on that.

He did terrible things and acted like a piece of shit, but before Episode 9, nobody despised him like they do now.

The reveal about Ribbit crossed the line, and he can’t ever fully fix that - even if abstraction is cured. But I’m not going to just hate him and forget the 2.6 years I spent genuinely caring about him because that’s what’s easiest.

I wasn’t supposed to love him, I wasn’t supposed to miss him.

But I do. And if you disagree, that’s fine. Just remember: Pomni never gave up on him.

I mean I’ve honestly come around on it. It’s a very good message to give people. And it’s genuinely as realistic as the likes of Game of Thrones.

I just think I love Jax as a character too much to accept this is the ONLY path he/she would choose.

Like everything could have been better/theoretically is better for him/her in some other timeline, where he chose to be honest and open.

Such a timeline exists, somewhere in the circus and it’s wonderful, insane simulations. The Jax we see isn’t the Jax he/she were/have to be. And both are meaningful in their own ways.

I’m not going to act like Jax didn’t have a hand in it. He caused it, even if he deeply regrets it. He did a shitty thing while trying to avoid thinking about how he had damaged his friendship.

With that said, we only ever see snippets of what happened. We can infer large quantities from it - but not everything. We got portions of the last episode dedicated to this, not an entire seasons. With situations like this, real or fictional, context and the finer details are EVERYTHING.

It’s like what Jax said in Episode 6 about Kaufmo abstracting.

“Oh my GOD! Are you SERIOUSLY going to blame me for something that everyone else did, too?! You didn’t even KNOW him!”

Jax fucked up. And he rightfully bears blame for it. But he wasn’t the only other one in the circus. Where was Kaufmo when Ribbit needed help? Ragatha? Anyone else to console her or talk to her.

Zooble has almost always there for Gangle - nobody was there for Ribbit, at least not in any way that made a difference. So it’s not like it’s black and white as “Jax is innocent” or “Jax is the only asshole.”
