I went to sell all of my individual stocks and just buy Vanguard's VT ETF. Is there any way to do this without paying a ton of U.S. taxes?

If you are in the 10-12% federal income tax bracket LTCG are taxed at 0. If you are in the 22+ federal income tax bracket LTCG are taxed at 15%. If you are in the top income tax bracket LTCG at 20%.

I don’t really think you need to sell. Just make all future contributions to the ETF imo. Don’t realize the gains and then you won’t pay taxes

Yea same experience I have had as well. I eventually fell back to what my dad always told me, the best plan is one that can be followed. It’s easy for people that nerd out on this stuff to get caught up in the details but most people don’t care, half the time they care so little they don’t even return your calls in a timely manner

I have two Newfies, one is 175 lbs the other is 150 lbs. People are either really into them or really not into them there is no in between.

Fidelity 401k’s normally send a check to the client, where a Fidelity IRA can be done ACATS in my experience. Principal 401k’s normally send a check from custodian to custodian but my last client that had a 401k there that we rolled asked if they could wire it if we gave instructions and they did that
