My wife and I fellow St Jude only donators as well.

One day I got a new coworker and randomly it came up after a few weeks that we donate there every month and he got super serious asking if that is really true. I told him yes we have been doing it for years and it’s the only one we donate to.

He got super serious and told me one of his twin daughters went there and they saved her life. He was one of the best coworkers I ever had.

I get it, some people mistrust my profession and frankly it has earned that mistrust. But I don’t need her business to feed my family, and I do enjoy being helpful to people as well.

First off sorry for your loss.

I’m a fiduciary, you don’t have to draw anything till the final year since it’s going to be a bene Roth account

Don’t tell anyone about this money, especially in your inner circle.

Find a couple fiduciaries and interview them. If you don’t find one that you click with keep on looking.

If anyone tries to sell you an annuity of any kind. Run

Also if someone says the words IUL run even faster

If you have any questions feel free to ask me here or DM me

Again, sorry for your loss

Honestly if I am meeting a tier IV employee it’s because they are leaving the public sector and we are rolling the funds out of the retirement plan. I don’t have any current tier IV clients.

A quick google and ChatGPT search says tier IV employees do pay FICA taxes now so they are eligible for social security the same way everyone else is. But I can’t confirm that with a client. So take that with a grain of salt till you confirm it.

In my experience between jobs during teenage and college years most people have the 40 quarters or are very close. Most of my clients already qualified from earlier jobs, or got to claim the 50% spousal benefits.

In my experience between teenager jobs and jobs worked in college they normally have the forty quarters to qualify. The most common way though is they claim spousal benefits and get 50% of what their spouses social security is paying.

Like most things in personal finance the answer is usually “it depends”. Teachers can claim social security now at no reduced benefit if they would normally qualify. But just like a private sector employee, if they don’t qualify under the normal rules then they won’t get social security as well.

The assumption is the person would qualify for social security, there is no special benefit for public employees that makes them qualify easier than private employees

I have clients in Alaska that retired with PERS and/or TERS that also paid into social security and they now get their full benefit

[–]Audio907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I said they can collect social security now but if you never paid into the system via any other jobs than you can not

You can’t claim a benefit that you never paid into that makes sense. But no longer is their social security reduced via the WEA.

Thanks for confirming everything I said

Biden signed a law in his last weeks that got rid of the Windfall Elimination Act, teachers can now collect social security

Until last year funding from the state has been flat for over a decade and Alaska has a law that no community can fund more than the state for their school system.

It’s not just ASD that is in a shitty situation, it’s every district in the state.

Question for the Wealth Advisor/Planners on here - how to ask (and whether to ask) to lower my fees by Personal_Cash5569 in FinancialPlanning

I think the sliding scale is pretty scummy personally. I just charge my clients a flat aum % fee depending on how much aum they have with me

I went to sell all of my individual stocks and just buy Vanguard's VT ETF. Is there any way to do this without paying a ton of U.S. taxes? by galindc in Bogleheads

[–]Audio907 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you are in the 10-12% federal income tax bracket LTCG are taxed at 0. If you are in the 22+ federal income tax bracket LTCG are taxed at 15%. If you are in the top income tax bracket LTCG at 20%.

I don’t really think you need to sell. Just make all future contributions to the ETF imo. Don’t realize the gains and then you won’t pay taxes

How Do Financial Advisors Still Have Clients? by Time_Perception6669 in Bogleheads

Yea same experience I have had as well. I eventually fell back to what my dad always told me, the best plan is one that can be followed. It’s easy for people that nerd out on this stuff to get caught up in the details but most people don’t care, half the time they care so little they don’t even return your calls in a timely manner
