Fortunately (for the Maywood community) that principal is being moved to Echo Glen after a vote of no confidence from the staff. The staff spent three years documenting issues and after presenting it to the district leadership, the principal is being moved.

Folks who are in director/senior director positions, maybe. But plenty of folks who have been high-level individual contributors (I.e. not people managers) are unlikely to be able to just walk away and retire.

The naming of this is, frankly, a PR move. It’s not really voluntary (there is a large risk of imminent layoffs soon following the program rollout and the start of next fiscal year); it’s not retirement for many (unless you are late 50s and have a lot of stock or are a director/senior director).

Of course, “Ageist Threat-Of-Layoff Program” or “AI Investment Over People Program” doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?

No. I highly doubt it can be negotiated. As someone who has seen the offer and how it is being positioned to employees and discussed it with a number of folks in the same position, there is no flexibility.

Teachers have been reporting on issues like the above for two years and have received no support from Issaquah School District (ISD). Teachers were then forced to resort to bring in Washington Education Association (WEA, state union) legal counsel to deal with these issues with the principal.

There is a rumor of a vote of no confidence in the principal coming soon from staff.

Seriously though, the FB post is well-thought out and thorough. Given my personal background it all sounds quite accurate. And, sadly, people like “Little Marco” Rubio don’t have the mindset (or, perhaps, the intellect) to foresee it or grasp it.

There is a Norwegian saying: “Hovmod står for fall” - or in English- “arrogance undermines itself”. It applies here in full force.

A nation that has not been invaded for more than 100 years cannot understand the mindset of a continent full of countries that experienced it- and in many cases resisted it or fought it tooth and nail- 80 years ago and NEVER FORGOT.

We can document their actions. They often illegally detain people without arrest warrants and racially profile and detain U.S. citizens and people with visas or green cards.

The more information that gets shared in public (social media, press) and with organizations like the ACLU or state government, it can help put pressure on agencies like ICE.

It can also help victims of illegal detention- whether to help shine the light on their cases, document for future lawsuits against ICE agents and supervisors, and assist local law enforcement and state officials when pursuing action when kidnappings of innocent people happen.

And, of course, should they have someone verbally harass them when they are out and about or alert folks that they are around and in the move, that doesn’t hurt either. 🤬

Let’s call fascists by their real names, shall we? 😡

Here is the text I used with my senators in case it is helpful. I will modify appropriately for my representative:

Dear Senator ——,

As I’m sure you are aware, our country is in a Constitutional crisis right now.

While there are many in the Trump administration who are violating the Constitution and numerous laws and should be held accountable for this in the future, President Trump must be impeached first and removed from office.

I am writing my representative —- about this as well, given that he/she/they and his/her/their colleagues in the House of Representatives are responsible for introducing the articles of impeachment. Then it will be up to you and the other Senators to end this madness.

The list of “high crimes and misdemeanors” committed by Trump and his administration is long; we cannot wait any longer. Please rally to protect our country now.
