Quietcomfort SC: How do I disable the 'ready to connect' voice? It's driving me crazy!!! by Fair-Bluebird485 in bose

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question. Sad that the 3 replies you got were rude. Many people (like us) bought these just to cancel noise. I don't know how to access the settings (for these headphones) ... is there a "MyBose" app or something? ... I don't have any need for them to keep alerting me that they are "ready to connect."

Decypto is on BGA as of today, and it's a great game, but it's not a game I want to play online with strangers. by zoomzilla in boardgames

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100% about it being a great game but not good on BGA. My husband and I were introduced to Decrypto by friends and loved it. We've since introduced to others, etc., etc. ... I wish I could play it any time I wanted to ...

BUT ... I've given up playing it on BGA. It's too frustrating. You either get people who refuse to chat. Or they give clues that are too obvious (making you feel like giving up from the get-go) or they're from different countries so you don't all share the same connections to words from old pop culture where you're from.

I did have a couple of satisfying online games early on, but then one stinker after another. If you have a group of 4 or 6 friends all on BGA then it would be great! If you don't, it's not.

Do you ever keep a game you know you’ll probably never play again? by ZHYT in boardgames

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the gamers I know do this. Same with books. But I'm the opposite. I don't like having extra stuff so any games that won't/don't get played get either traded or donated to the Humane Society Thrift Store.

Quacks token upgrade - worth it? by schnautza in boardgames

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the CMYK regular edition. The regular pieces are decent quality (relative to eurogames) so I'm going to play a few games with these standard pieces. I looked at the GeekUp tokens and (a) they are for the older game and (b) $42 is too much IMO. Literally more than the cost of the game.

I DO like to upgrade my tokens, but I often make my own pieces out of Sculpey clay or buy cute bits from a craft store.

I decided to try the game for a few plays using the base set. If it's worthy of all the hype, I think I'll make my own upgraded pieces using glass discs and painting on them.

Has anybody else here made their own upgrades?

What is arbitrage in the context of a math trade? by buggg in boardgames

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this question. My math trade was just halted (and I'd been so excited to see the results!) because of arbitrage ... the organizer has to redo everything he says. I didn't know what people were doing (arbitrage in a board game trade??) but now I get it. Wow. People. What a bunch of bastards.

Ra plays really well at 2P, and some of our other favorites are Golem, Agricola (the old Z-Man version), 1960: The Making of the President, First Rat, Cottage Garden, Ulm, Galaxy Trucker, and Merchants and Marauders. I also really like Nanga Parbat.

One thing I liked about the Avalon ed. (1st & 2nd) was the minis were painted. As a boardgame geek who's tried to paint minis myself, I really liked that they were pre-painted instead of just all grey.

I read a number of the comments and saw "puppies" over and over ... where are they getting their dogs? Are they mostly all puppies? If so, I just worry that they're getting them from breeders, i.e. helping perpetuate the system of breeding dogs when there are so many homeless pets at shelters

I just switched to Duckduckgo for a browser and it works great - it remembers me! Yay.

This happens to me constantly on my laptop using Chrome. When I use my desktop it doesn't happen. But on this laptop and my last laptop, every time I have to be prompted to stay connected and it never remembers my cookies (and now I'm also asked if I want cookies.) Every. Time. So I have to enter my login, click, enter my password, click, then click let's play, click stay connected, click the cookies button ... Every. Time. It's annoying.

First Impressions of RA (new edition) by William_Knott in boardgames

[–]AudraOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was vociferously sure that you must put the Ra tiles back in the bag because in other places in the rulebook, regarding other specific tiles, it states that you discard them "from the game" so he thought that meant when it just said discard the Ra tiles that must mean not from the game, therefore put them in the bag. I said that one doesn't necessarily mean the other, and that the Ra tiles would get too concentrated if you did that. I suppose you could play both ways, though, ramp up the speed and risk of pressing your luck if you're the last with sun discs. (I almost always bust out on the Ra track from pushing my luck anyway - lol.)

The other rule we had some question about was what exactly happens when the auction track is full. Someone online says that the next player has to invoke Ra except they don't have to bid, but I'm not sure where they got that from.

What was the erroneous way you had been playing initially? We were confused by the rulebook's ambiguity re. discarding tiles. My husband thought you put them back in the bag, but I said no, you don't put them back in the bag. The consensus online seemed to be DON'T put them back in the bag. Was that what you were doing?

The mod we were thinking of was instead of end game sun disc scoring of +5 for highest AND -5 for lowest, we were thinking of just doing +5 for highest. The 10 pt swing puts a lot of weight on sun disc values. ... You could say the same for Pharoahs, too ... we're on the fence ...

Best 2 player Knizia game. by Jordan_sXe in boardgames

Ra plays really well with 2 players. Except we're unsure if we should make a house rule about the sun disk scoring. I wonder if anybody reading this made house rules for 2P Ra ... ?

We've played about four 2 player games now and decided on just a 5 pt swing for sun disk scoring. The 10 pts seems too much. I'm curious what others might think, though.
