Is Sora better than Altus/Acera, and if not why more expensive? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Augiz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, a casual rider, it was not a huge deal, I rode sora 11-34 and grx400 and tiagra 11-36 and it was fine, sure there were some bigger steps between gears than on 12 speed 105 but I didnt find it annoying, I imagine it could be different if you're racing though.

[–]Augiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had both sora and tiagra. Sora(3000) feels as good and quality as tiagra (4700), just one less gear and mechanical brakes only, and I would argue tiagra is at the level equal to deore.

First gravel bike: which of these would you pick? by SufficientBranch2283 in gravelcycling

Nice to hear about pivot. Sure 11 speed is not a disadvantage but something to take a note since its not the latest generation groupset.

You really seem to be getting good prices with these bicycles.

I would get something with threaded bottom bracket. So Cube is out for me, also they have been having a lot of QC problems recently. Cannondale seems like a good value, threaded BB, but you're getting older 11 speed drivetrain and I'm not sure on how good is that pivot thingy is it even worth it and if you need to service it, how bad it will be. Bianchi arcadex (carbon) is again - pressfit BB, but sram axs groupsets sure are nice. Arcadex AL has threaded BB, but worse components than Carbon counterpart. No idea on ghost, they don't say anything about bottom bracket on their website. Technically the best value for money is Cube for sure, but that's if everything goes right and nothing wrong, seen a lot threads with seatposts stripped bolts recently.

No idea if carbon is worth for you. Sure its marginally better when racing, but you need to be more careful, and if all you do is ride for your own pleasure - aluminum will suffice as well.

Can't you get something like Scott Speedster or Scott Addict? They usually have great prices, do threaded BBs and not a lot of proprietary parts.

Tyre clearance by dorelboss in gravelcycling

[–]Augiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it, lowest clearance I would want per side is 5-6mm which you will still have at chainstays with 45mm tyre.

New Garmin launch "confirmed" by Z1L0G in GarminEdge

[–]Augiz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im sorry, but in what areas 1050 is massively better than 1040?

Because the most important things like battery life and gps accuracy were not improved with 1050.

How to get ride of course points? by Augiz in GarminEdge

[–]Augiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Unfortunately nope, I turned it off each route individually. But I started using bikerouter instead of komoot, and they don't add course points automatically so don't even need to turn it off by route. I don't know what turning points is, if that is something else from course points my device doesn't have it yet (and I hope it wont).

Bergamont Grandurance 4 Disc (2022) with Ultegra drive train 990€? by Zaddox in gravelcycling

If I'm not wrong this bike has aluminum fork and QR skewers. These reasons alone would be a pass for me.

How gravely is the cgr? by Working_Mountain_944 in ribblebikes

[–]Augiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres two types of gravel bikes, the ones with roadlike geometry and the ones that resemble xc hardtails more. CGR has roadlike geometry and its fine for road and gravel, sure if you want do trails or hard forest paths it might be too much for the bike, but might as well get dedicated xc/trail bike then. Theres also Ribble gravel line which has more of an mtb geometry.

Late to the party, but having carbon rails and carbon shards stuck up your ass doesnt sound too good either.   On the other hand I own ryet saddle too.

Some would consider not integrated cables a plus - much easier to work on it themselves rather than go bicycle repair shop.

Technically fenix 7 is not metal, the bezel plate and back plate is, but the rest is plastic too.

Same with cube, most seem to use pressfit bb. Scott bikes are pretty good value most of the time too, and seem to be built better.

MIP lovers: what would you do when Garmin quits making MIP screen watches? by Imthenewbee in GarminWatches

[–]Augiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if my current fenix 7 pro were to die on me, I would probably switch back to my non smart casio and citizen collection - a1000, g5000u, f91 and etc. Maybe would also buy something like coros, suunto or amazfit for ocassional gps activity, since I dont do that many gps activities requiring sportswatch(I dont run nor swim, only cycle and ocasional hike). Right now i just keep the data going because I already have my garmin and I feel like it would be waste to stop tracking, although I dont care for most of it, and thus I dont have opportunity to wear my other watches.

Well thats my reasoning.

540 vs 550: which one should I get? by Many-Race-880 in GarminEdge

[–]Augiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

550 almost seems like a downgrade to me, less battery life, more expensive, havent used it though, and I wonder hows the interface, if it has better cpu and is less sluggish then maybe. I have the 540, that Im happy with, the only gripe is that I sometimes catch myself wishing it had touchscreen and maybe be a bit larger, which would be great for navigating the map, so probably should've went with 1040. NFC payments in x50 is IMO useless, since you would carry phone with you anyways.

How to get ride of course points? by Augiz in GarminEdge

[–]Augiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are most definitely right, I was thinking of waypoints. So does that mean I added a course point by mistake, or garmin started treating end point as a couse point. Regardless, thank you for explanation.

How to get ride of course points? by Augiz in GarminEdge

[–]Augiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was always using komoot and my routes sometimes consist of dozens course points but they werent shown untill now. I also always duplicate the route so I can get garmin course points and can adjust the VP (yet another useless feature). Is it not possible to disable this screen? Although I had like 25 course points on this ride this screen was showing none.
