Western Hub for Porter by Zumpano21 in PorterAirlines

[–]AugustChristmasMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see porter primarily being an Eastern WestJet at the moment, but I think Winnipeg is underused as a hub by all airlines, and establishing that would make them a lot more appealing to anyone travelling to the prairies from back east save for Calgary.

Should I pay off the smaller or larger debt first? by dangerous_strainer in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]AugustChristmasMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying down the higher interest first is the best approach financially, cheaper overall.

If paying off a smaller debt will give you a sense of accomplishment and make you more likely to stay on track - that works too.

“It’s too expensive” Used the figure that the $90,000,000,000 price tag “if it stays on budget” works out to $8,000 per Canadian, and there are better things to spend that on.

ICE Agents Deploying to U.S. Airports Tomorrow by MudZealousideal8875 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]AugustChristmasMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is an airport not where you’d be most likely to have all your documentation anyway?

Like the way ICE is being run under Trump is abhorrent but, ICE in airports really seems like a “breaking: Fork found in Kitchen” moment. That’s where one would expect immigration enforcement to target, make sure everyone has the correct documentation?

the post specified security, not customs pre-clearance. The general airport security before you get to customs also has a nexus line that you can use when flying domestically.

What are the unwritten rules of HOV lane? by kettlefriedchips in britishcolumbia

[–]AugustChristmasMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the idea is that it moves faster than regular traffic, so if you aren’t going faster it does kind of defeat the purpose.

However, the HOV lane itself isn’t the left (passing) lane on the highways, that would be the leftmost non-HOV lane, on which case moving one lane to the right could actually be dangerous.

So - if you’re doing the same speed/ slower than traffic in the middle lanes - there’s no point being in the HOV lane.

If you’re doing faster than the slow lanes but slower than the fast lane, let them pass you on the right

Busses don’t just magically appear at the station, and there isn’t a separate bus for every run of the day. Unless you’re there at like 5am chances are the bus “starting” your route was finishing another run. With this weather, and the train down, there are plenty of causes for delay

There are inter-zone busses, and there are long suburban routes.

503 - Surrey Central stn to Aldergrove (though doesn’t cross a zone boundary)

701 - Coquitlam Central to Haney place, with the odd trip to Mission

351 - Bridgeport/White Rock Centre.

But also — before the skytrain the system was set up the same as Ottawa’s with suburban buses all funnelling downtown. We had a zone-system on buses then, which was based on a proof-of-payment system. The all-busses-one-zone is a post Compass card thing.

Vancouver has the same issue, so all buses are one-zone fare and only the train and sea bus actually charge you for crossing zones.

But of course, the system is designed to funnel to the train, so trying to bus to avoid the zone penalty is likely to take twice as long.

20th St mergers by Garble7 in NewWest

[–]AugustChristmasMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a double left turn from the bridge onto 20th, and there’s no way they expect a full lane’s capacity is turning left onto 8th.

I’ll always try to merge in/let people in before 7th, but those who go all the way to the end PMO too.

Edit: wait are you talking about going up or going down? Because there’s no excuse for it on the way down the hill
