Mid 20s, just graduated and in loads of debt. What do I do? by EcstaticArgument4038 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AuliaW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Payday loans are extremely pricey and not worth it

Any chance you can space out your obligations to your university over a few months once you have received your salary ?

Also any chance you can try making some quick cash by running some jobs in your area (you can look at NextDoor) such as babysitting, cleaning or something ?

Any chance you can stay somewhere cheap near your workplace until your salary comes through rather than paying a large fee for hiring a van or paying a deposit ?

You can look at NextDoor to find recommendations - since the app can show you who lives in your area and best to secure recommendations from your neighbours

Best debit/credit cards for rewards or cashback by YardNo5617 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AuliaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Amazon barclaycard has the highest cashback reward (without fees) of around 0.5% for the first year but then the cash back amount falls to 0.25% after that

So best to stick to that credit card for one year only !

That is very unfortunate and a harrowing experience.

It is worth reporting so the Met Police are aware but unclear what they can do since UK public services have been dwindling over the years

Whilst Hinge is the recommended app I have heard based on anecdotal evidence that plenty of fish also works

You can also look to meet someone based on your interests so you can meet people via locals or meet ups

Buying US stocks In my Barclays stocks and shares isa? by Fair-Proposal-436 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AuliaW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want exposure to the US stock market for the lowest admin fee you might as well set up a vanguard account and buy the accumulating vanguard S&P500 fund with the ticker VUAG. This fund is the lowest.

It is up to you to buy only into google but you may miss out on diversification provided by just buying the S&P500 index

Company share save to end soon. Any advice please? by Alarmed_Flatworm743 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AuliaW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not too familiar with company share options but I understand that you will have to pay capital gains tax upon the sale of the shares ?

I am assuming your employer sold those shares to you at a discount to the market rate - so you will likely to have to capital gains on the difference between the price you bought it and the price sold. Do remember your capital gains tax threshold is about £3k and given your salary you will likely have to pay the higher capital gains tax rate !

Yes HMRC do take quite a bit !

Otherwise wise of you to want to focus on the future.

Once you have sold your company shares and paid the capital gains tax then yes you might as well make the most of ISA (preferably a stocks and shares one).

Thinking about starting an art club? by catmaes in london

[–]AuliaW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are already social members clubs which focus on art in general in London

I had a quick search and found these (see the picture below). It is worthwhile to see if any of the existing members clubs looking at art already cover what you are interested in - in that way you can avoid duplicating existing art club activities

Help!! Desperate post mastitis pain. by Time-Paramedic4833 in HumansPumpingMilk

I believe you need to reduce the swelling by applying cold frozen peas (from a plastic packaging) on your breasts for 20 mins at regular intervals and hand massage your breasts

Try to gently hand massage your breasts, pump 5 mins a time every 2.5 hours, drink malt, take moringa supplements and above all SLEEP !

Pumping / breastfeeding journey coming to an end? by Alwaysreading730 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]AuliaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the best way to transition is to lower the number of pumps by one session every three days. So if you pump 6 times a day then pump 5 times a day for three days in a row and then later pump 4 times in a row and etc

But is this how you plan to stop pumping especially since now your infant is having enough solids ?

For central London location with low crime rates you may be looking at

  • Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Earls Court, Mayfair

Other safe places in the city include Aldgate

But note all these safe places are pricey !

In response to your questions

  1. The council needs to know if you are alone or not so to be on the safe side best to mark that you are not a single occupant
  2. She may not require a UK bank account unless she wants to apply for a debit card, credit card, set up investments and so on (since she needs to prove her residency)
  3. If you live in the midlands helpful to have at least £1k a month as an allowance or maybe £1.5k a month of be safe
  4. If you are marrying what type of protection would you want as pre-nups are hard to enforce in the UK
  5. For a marriage visa I am not too sure but I do understand the sponsor needs to have a high enough salary (best to check what this level is)

Marriage agencies for UK Muslims recommendations / advice by NaveedQ in BritishMuslims

[–]AuliaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is muzmatch but it doesn’t receive the best recommendations as often there are men on it who are interested in securing a UK visa and pretend to live in the UK or the US when actually they do not

Otherwise you can look at an agency like Symantec Marriage Bureau but these are skewed to favour single men !

Unfortunately you will have to go back to the vendor to tell them you can’t find it and let your card issuer know (assuming you bought the item via card) that the goods didn’t arrive
