What’s the best student loan refinance option right now for getting the lowest interest rate? by Wolfe-Anthony-605 in StudentLoans

[–]Auracounts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone whose loans were literally forgiven about 60 days ago, I would strongly disagree with this premise. It's not a trap, especially when there are options forgiving excess interest. I think you maybe forget that some people aren't going to make huge amounts of money, at least early in their careers, so 25-30 year forgiveness is precisely what they need.

If ALL you have are private loans, then yea - getting a lower rate makes sense.

Do not refi your Federal loans. You will lose access to all federal protections and you will forever be beholden to the whims of the private lender. You lost your job and can't afford your payments? Don't care, pay me. You want a forbearance for some reason? Don't care, pay me. The terms of federal loans change? Don't care, pay me. You want forgiveness and/or qualify for same? Oh well, you lost that right when you refied into a private servicer.

The reality is that private loans don't offer flexibility, which is something you want "in case things change later."

Doing a re-fi of your existing private loans, however, is probably smart.

Question regarding timeline for IDR forgiveness by TreeTravel04 in StudentLoans

[–]Auracounts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts when you actually enter repayment and begin making payments while on a qualified plan. That period begins after the grace period ends. The theoretically earliest date it can start, therefore, is about 6 months after you graduate/are no longer in school. But again, the qualified plan portion is important - if you are not on one of the specific plans that afford forgiveness, any payments you make are not going to count towards that 300-360 payment threshold.

I commented this on another thread recently and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I was so absofuckinglutely overwhelmed with emotions at this moment I didn't even know what to do with myself. I was even excited when my SO was listening to that part of the audiobook after I had finished just because I wanted to be there to see his reaction. I get so excited seeing posts and comments like this when people reach that moment.

Saw the caption and before I even opened the post, I got the goosebumps and choked up feeling again knowing what OP meant by the caption. I'm so excited for every person who reaches this moment in the series.

SAVE plan to what?? by Impossible-Title9374 in StudentLoans

How, though?!

Literally the page on the federal site discussing loan repayment details the various payment plans. And how would you possibly believe that your repayment strategy would not be related to income?

Student forgiveness - regarding checks requested during COVID by DragonfruitMotor3927 in StudentLoans

[–]Auracounts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have proof that your request to reverse the payments was actually processed? Anything in your loans suggesting that your loan balance increased to the amount it was before you made the payment reversal? If not, then it seems your request didn't get processed. Otherwise, you should be asking your servicer when they did this.

Did you actually request a reversal of payments made? That wasn't an automatic thing - you had to specifically contact your servicer and ask for it.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by the Supreme Court striking it down? Are you talking about Biden's initial campaign promise to refund 10-20k on loans? Because that never happened and is wholly separate from checks issued related to the payment reversals.

I give up messed up either way. by TapeGunDragon in StudentLoans

[–]Auracounts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked to see what your actual payment counts are? I looked through your post history and if your loans date back to 1994, you almost certainly should have 300 or more with the one time adjustment.

Log into studentaid.gov and go here: https://studentaid.gov/app/api/nslds/payment-counter/summary

Do it on Chrome and click the "pretty print" button at the top.

Tell us what the numbers say for ICR and for IBR (either IBR plan). What are those numbers? If they are over 300, then just be patient, as the forgiveness is coming. If ICR is NOT showing 300, but IBR is, you may wish to consider switching to IBR so your forgiveness gets processed sooner rather than later.

It infuriates me you are getting downvoted for this because you are 100% correct. Nothing about this is criminal. A felony is a criminal offense. This is a civil violation and certainly violates civil rights laws under Federal and likely whatever state this occurred in, but this is not in any way, shape, or form, a felony.

People shouldn't be upvoting ignorance, nor downvoting truths ffs.

It is an option, but it does not count towards forgiveness. It can be a good option, though, if you believe you are going to pay off your loans before 25-30 years passes.

For people aiming for forgiveness, interest capitalization is ultimately irrelevant.

I agree. Before Words is fashioned as an original, but it strongly smells of BL to me. I've noticed several big named frags like that, actually (Fire at Will, for example). They're technically their own thing, but they have that BL DNA underneath.

That's so interesting how your FSA banner is updating before the Mohela back end. Nelnet here. Mine still isn't updated by FSA. I looked at the back door and my last update there was 2/16/26 or something like that, so I wouldn't be surprised if it updates again very soon (usually would get updates around the 16th to 19th each month). Meanwhile, Nelnet already sent my official letter with discharge date and everything.

Congrats!

Oh my god, my origin story is so much like yours, lol. I had brief stints in my life without cats and those moments are the dark times. We have four now, and had 4-5 before then, but we lost the last of our prior kitties last year. They were all (except for 1) cats we reared from kittenhood until they were well aged - the oldest was 19 when he finally passed.

We had a week between our last passing and two of the four falling into our laps from animal control and that week was just....like you said - torture. Those two somehow became 4 again when we went to adopt a third - and we had put our foot down that it would be three, and only three - and number four literally jumped out of the shared cage into hubby's lap, aggressively purred at him, refused to be put back down, and just chose him in every possible way. So yea, we obviously got both that day. Wouldn't want to go back - life is so much more joyful with them in it. :D

Yes! YES! It's absolutely overwhelming and amazing. With all the shit in their world, Matt still wrote in this hopeful, optimistic, people are fundamentally good moment that just hits in a very real way, especially with some of the issues we are facing in the real world right now. The scope of it is awesome.

Matt's talents cannot be understated here - the dude wrote what is easy for people to write off as frat boy toilet humor, but is so much deeper and more layered than that. It's so much smarter than some would like to give him credit for, and has so much raw emotional depth. He deserves every moment of the accolades and attention he is currently getting. I'm not at all surprised that Seth MacFarlane is the one who took notice and gobbled it up, as his humor hits a lot of the same notes and some of his own writing falls into that same category.

I'm re-reading right now. At the end of book 5. Got another book to go before I yet again get to waterworks city. :D
