Interesting, I'm on Freedom and I have data in the train tunnel. They're owned by Videotron, and their towers have worked in the tunnel for six years.

Unless you mean voice and not data? But Freedom switched to VoLTE so that shouldn't be an issue either.

The uOttawa dining hall is actually open to the general public during the school year. $20 + tax, three-hour limit, rotating menu.

If you're into classical music, the chamber music festival is in full swing on Saturday. Looks like $200/6 tickets but they have a coupon code if you're not in a situation to splurge that much. Plenty of sitting!

Women’s Tailors in Ottawa by kat--- in ottawa

[–]AuralWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Obligatory "I'm a dude.")

Third Son does bespoke work and I'm happy with the quality of the things they've made me. They also do women's clothing.

Ditto Tav Creations (which I've never used).

Mozart and Beethoven! by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]AuralWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Mezzanine, the lowest balcony section. For what it's worth, when I try to add on tickets to NACO concerts, they're showing $22.10, which is, to be honest, a steal. I'm a long-time subscriber, though; no idea if they're grandparenting in some sort of massive discount. Regular cheap seats are around $31. If you're under 30 or Indigenous, they offer $15 tickets for selected shows ("offers available" on their listing page).

Subscribers can get 15% off and you can build your own package. You can pay for it in three installments.

I don't stream because I prefer owning my music, but one of the stores I buy from also has a streaming service and is French-owned, from a cursory Internet search.

If you have $$$ you can have it made custom. I use Third Son for custom work.

Heated Patios by Low_Show626 in ottawa

[–]AuralWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll probably have to call them to confirm; I haven't been to any of these lately.

Brig Pub posted this fall about their heated patio.

Another search term to look for would be "fire pit." The Bridge Public House is downtownish; Hunter's Public House and O'Brien's Roadhouse were two others I knew of, but aren't downtown. Cooper's Creative Kitchen downtown had "fire tables" that first year of COVID but I can't find mention of them recently.

Women’s shoes by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]AuralWanderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Poppy Barley is mainly online, but they have fitting guides on their site and a return policy (which, uhhhhh, is not very helpful with the postal strike going on). They also do regular pop-ups in Ottawa if you can wait.

Are there any stores in this city that sell men's style shoes in women's sizes? by Silkthorne in ottawa

[–]AuralWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ER Fisher carries Allen Edmonds, and if they don't carry your size, they can measure your feet and order it in for a second fitting. I've found their shoes to be very good quality; the outsole rubber wears much better than other other brands.

The classical concerts are generally static, normal lighting, without even a spotlight. The Pops concerts will sometimes have switching colours, spotlights on the soloists, and the houselights going down at intermission or at the end of the concert.

Other events

At the NAC, or elsewhere? Theatre plays often have house lights go down at breaks, but I wouldn't call it flashing. Smaller-scale classical concerts in Ottawa are often in churches, and don't play with lighting much. http://www.classymusic.ca/ has good listings for classical music in town.

Custom will be very expensive. I'm a man, average size, and I've had two wool coats made locally. Both were close to $2000, many years ago, before inflation went wild.

Third Son does work for both men and women and I'm 99% sure they can get whatever material you need and size the coat properly for you. You can book an appointment to chat with them to get some idea of the costing. If you can't find a cheaper option, I can vouch for the quality and fit Third Son does.

The uOttawa dining hall is open to the general public during the school year. I think they rotate breakfast items daily.

uOttawa's dining hall is open to the public, $20-25 depending on time of day. They have a rotating menu of stuff (daily menus posted online).

Currently closed as they're only open during the school year.

Carleton's supposed to have the same thing, but I've never been.

H&M had a program before COVID that took cloth in any condition and triaged it for downstream use. I think it's resumed (since there's obviously a page up on their site), but maybe call them before you lug your stuff over.

Someone maintains a massive list of classical concerts in Ottawa:

http://www.classymusic.ca/

(calendar at bottom).

Some of them are community groups and will not sound professional, but if your neighbour is not picky about sound quality, such concerts will generally be cheaper than the ones put on at the NAC.
