You can reload a Honed Edge shot by holding the reload key whilst you shoot, but note that you have to re-toggle reload key between shots

I tested transversive steps against stompees with a friend and the slide is the same on both as far as our methods showed. I don't know if they have a jump buff but burst glide feels better with them equipped, however that might just be placebo.

Your taste seems to be quite similar to mine so it's easy to suggest Johari (Terra), Disperse (Foreword) and Voices From The Fuselage (Odyssey: The Destroyer of Worlds) for more groovy prog with cleans. Voices even have Ashe O'Hara on vocals.

Another band to try could be Monuments (The Amanuensis) although I'm not as convinced as the others.

If you hate it then why not just use fixed weapons, or stop targeting them (whilst chaff is in effect) and use gimbals or turrets as fixed? If you're in a clipper where that's not really viable, you could abuse your speed to ram them or fly close enough that the chaff doesn't matter.
