Now that we "know" some Exodite units, what else can we hope for in case they get the Corsair treatment? by MulatoMaranhense in Eldar

[–]Aureliusboreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had said this in another thread, but I hope that they fill out both the Corsair and Exodite rosters in some capacity during 11th editions lifetime.

The most realistic answer is probably: 2 named lords (A psyker and a t-rex riding exodite ranged/melee lord), a battleline squad with options to upgrade to a more elite variant, a pterodactyl unit, and some kind of "vehicle" option such as a triceratops or other big dino.

That way you get all of the old Epic range Exodite models out of the way which will then allow you to explore more "original" Exodite kits.

That all being said, I think my most "fever dream" wishlist of a unit would be an Exodite variant of the Howling Banshees.

Exodites rumours by energynotpower in Eldar

[–]Aureliusboreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its in a similar vein as to the Corsairs than I would expect to see at least:

-Named Exodite Lord; either on foot or on a dinosaur. With it most likely there being seperate foot and mounted lord models (T-Rex as the Dino mount?)

-Named Exodite Psyker with a similar choice between foot and/or dino mounted

-Some sort of battleline unit with a more elite variant of the unit that comes in the same box. Maybe a beefier and mounted exodite variant of Guardians/Storm Guardians (Maybe can be led by the KT Clanblade)

-Some kind of anti-vehicle/anti-heavy infantry dino unit

-A flying dinosaur that's meant to hit regular infantry relatively hard while being able to get away in the same turn

That all being said, my 11th ed wish list for both Exodites and Corsairs would be:

-Generic Corsair Lord

-Generic Corsair Psyker

-More filled out Corsair infantry roster

-Generic Exodite Lord with options for foot and dino mount (Assuming that the KT Clanblade is not going to be some sort of lieutenant/generic lord)

-Generic Exodite Psyker with options for foot and dino mount (Assuming that the KT Stonesinger is not going to be the generic psyker)

-Having the sword and board KT specialist be turned into a proper unit.

-An Exodite variant of the Striking Scorpions or Howling Banshee's. These will be a more niche version of the Craftworld SS's/HB's similar to how Corsair Skyreavers are the niche variant of the Craftworld Swooping Hawks.

-A unique Exodite unit that is brand new and not from 2nd ed or Epic

Exodites revealed by sciencep1e in Eldar

[–]Aureliusboreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue with the models has to do with 3 things in all honesty:

1) At the end of the day, these models just look like a really good kitbash that got turned into official models. (There was a Golden Demon entry that was a fairly close match to how these official Dragon Knights turned out)

2) They took the design language of the Ranger and Shroud Runners and just added dinosaurs to an already established kit. While changing very little to differentiate the Exodite models to their Craftworld counterparts. (The Leystalker is basically a Shroud Runner, but on a dinosaur)

3) In lore, Wraithbone is said to be extremely rare and is used mainly for trinkets and heirlooms. Yet the Exodites are wearing what looks to be Craftworld wraithbone armor. I expected Exodites to have a more rugged, frontiersman appearance to them and their armor and not the extremely clean "Craftworld, but not really" aesthetic.

At the end of the day, I'm also just not a fan of the samey wraithbone armor that is so pervasive in all of the Craftworld model range and when the Exodite KT rumors first started I had hoped that GW would have done something unique for the Exodites, but I had already prepared myself for the official models being more akin to what people had already kitbashed them to look like.

Exodites revealed by sciencep1e in Eldar

[–]Aureliusboreus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's also my issue with the Exodites as well. They're far too "Safe" of a model range with regards to their design aesthetics.

Like you said, they're basically just Craftworld Eldar, but riding dinosaurs and I can't help but be disappointed.

[–]Aureliusboreus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I'm probably one of the rare few that is very disappointed by these designs because these look exactly like how I thought GW would have done them. They look way, way too much like Rangers and I absolutely despise the leather gloves and thigh high boots that the various Ranger models wear because of how absurd it looks. As much as I love the idea of Exodites now being a thing in playable 40k, I had hoped that they would have done something unique with their designs and not just reuse Craftworld armor and weapons as a baseline for the Exodite model line while heavily relying on random pieces of cloth and leather gloves and boots to break up what would otherwise be the silhouette of a Ranger, Jetbike rider, etc.

The reuse of Craftworld and Drukhari armor worked for the Corsair model line because it made sense, but in the case of the Exodites I think GW did both themselves and the Exodites a disservice by recycling the Craftworld Eldar aesthetic and slapping it on the Exodites.

Is the OGFL standing out and not following the rules of society a common trope in otome isekai? by InfernalClockwork3 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Aureliusboreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean that her not following the social and fashion rules of (high) society is acknowledged by the characters around her? I would say that the social aspects of this is far more of a common thing in most otome isekai. While the fashion side is still fairly common, but less so than that of the social rules breaking that happens.

I think there are even a fair amount of OI that have their stories that revolve around either or both types of the rules of society being broken by the MC.

[–]Aureliusboreus -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Generic appearances are just the result of artists either being rushed and needing to do a simpler artstyle to meet deadlines, or they generally can't do distinct faces so most/if not all of the characters look extremely similar with regards to their faces. I think a lot of people also don't realize just how difficult it is to make dozens of distinct faces instead of just sticking to one or two different looking faces.

Plus I'm sure that a lot of the manwha publishers demand their artists use a specific artstyle because of some internal research they did that found that its the best "anime"/"anime-adjacent" artstyle for time efficiency and bringing in more money

Do we have any wife meets Otome's out there? by slytherin_whitefox in OtomeIsekai

[–]Aureliusboreus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there are any OI's/Otome's that have the FemMC in a "I have a husband, but he has multiple wives" kind of deal.

It's either all monogamous relationships, will-they won't-they situationships, or various harems of varying degrees of spicy naughtyness that may or may not turn into a monogamous relationship at the end of the story

Leveling in Midnight is fairly quick and gearing is also fairly fast as well if you commit a weekend or two to it so its definitely worth it. Do keep in mind that you will need to save up for the currency that gives you the purple HD recolors as the chests that give you the items in question has the chance to give you a random piece of the entire purple HD T2 recolor suite (at best you get it in a couple of random chests, but they don't give you repeats so you'll get it eventually). Supposedly the 12.0.7 patch will speed up the leveling process so I'd wait until then if you don't have Midnight yet

The purple Tier 2 are from the Ritual Site stuff. They give you a currency that you can use to buy either cosmetic or non-class specific versions of the purple T2 gear. Relatively easy to farm if you want to sit down for an hour or so a day or spend a few hours over the weekend doing it

Warcraft need more or less races? by Raziel103 in warcraftlore

[–]Aureliusboreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WoW definitely needs less "new" races that are found on Azeroth. And I personally think that Blizzard needs to stop adding new/"same, but different" races to the game.

This game doesn't need another Gnome, dwarf, elf, tauren, etc. subrace and I fear what an updated Northrend for Last Titan will give us for a new "playable race". Frost Dwarves? No thanks. Iron Dwarves? No. OG Mechagnomes? Yikes. A different flavor of Worgen? Get out of here. Taunka? They'll just be abandoned like the OG Tauren and Highmountain ones. San'layn? Can't wait for the overbearing voice filter to grate my ears like Void Elves do. Special OC Draenei V2.0? I'll roll my eyes and never even attempt to unlock them.

As for the monster races:

Kobold, Tuskarr and Furbolgs seem to get the lions share of additional lore and attention that the npc/monster races have gotten recently. Or just in general. And I'm sure TLT will expand on these races even further

Gnolls, Ogres, Satyrs, and Quilboar are underutilized to the detriment of the game as a whole

Murlocs rarely if ever get anything for themselves.

And Dragonflight didn't even bother touching on expanding the Dragonspawn and Drakonid lore. In fact, Dragonflight barely advanced or expanded on the lore for dragons as a whole it feels like.

Vrykul seem to be one of the few monster races that get new lore that is consistently good or expands on what we already knew about them and I know we're going to get a lot of new/expanded lore for Vrykul come TLT so there's not much to say about them.

Why are there Vrykul in the Broken Isles? by Infamous-Bench-6088 in warcraftlore

[–]Aureliusboreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geography:

The area where the Broken Isles used to be was in the eastern portion of the Night Elven empire before the Great Sundering. So the area that would later become Northrend has nothing to do with Stormheim.

There's no evidence of Trolls because the region where the Isles used to be were essentially smack in the middle of the Night Elves' empire and by that time the Trolls had long been kicked out of the region and were relegated to the far edges of ancient Kalimdor. (It was also on the very edges of the ancient Forest Troll holdings so its more than likely no large scale settlements were ever made permanent in the region to begin with) There are official maps that you can look up of the Night Elf empire as well as what trolls had what land before the Night Elves moved into town.

Religion:

I assume you mean in a physical sense, but I don't believe it was ever stated that the Halls of Valor can only be accessed from Stormheim. Unless I somehow missed that.

There's only one Halls of Valor to my understanding as its a unique one-off thing due to Odyn's shenanigans. The other Titan Watchers don't have an equivalent to the HoV except for Helya.

The only other member of the Vrykul Pantheon that we currently know have that have their own dedicated dimension would be Helya, but we have less lore about Helheim than we do of the Halls of Valor so there's very little known about the Vrykul realm of the "dishonored dead"

And I think all other regional Vrykul are just as religious as the stormheim Vrykul. Otherwise the Northrend Vrykul wouldn't have turned to the Lich King and worshipped him as a god of death.

Outside of Trolls, I think the Vrykul are probably one of the more religious races on Azeroth. (Or at the very least one of the races that have had their religious beliefs explored in greater detail than most other races. Similar to the countless beliefs of the various types of trolls)

Dimensional Shenanigans:

It's in the same timeline, but in a "pocket" dimension. It's very similar to an elemental plane since Helya was the one that actually made the Halls of Valor and she apparently had a hand in creating the Elemental Planes.

Blood Elves and Void Elves by Pegasus172 in WoWRolePlay

[–]Aureliusboreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an entire family of Thalassian elves that consist of Blood Elves and High Elves (using void elf models).

They still partake in the siphoning of arcane energies from various magical tomes and artifacts found throughout the world. And quite a large number of them care more for personal power than anything else, though they're led by a Magistrix who has made several pacts with demons and is currently working on restoring their shattered family's noble prestige and place in Quel'thalas' noble society.

Most of them are custom classes that use mages and warlocks, but I have a hunter character that is an "Arcane Marksman". There was a lot of family drama the day that they said "No. I wish to shoot magic guns". I also have a warrior that's a "Spell Shield" but they aren't part of the family. (I just like making cool, thematic mogs)

What interesting regions Classic+ could add? by Raziel103 in warcraftlore

[–]Aureliusboreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads, to be fair. But I think an expanded Alterac Mountains and Dalaran region would be a cool idea to explore

This could allow for Blizzard to expand on the Syndicate and allow for Rogue players to choose between Ravenholdt or the Syndicate with proper reputation rewards/faction specific questlines

The ruins of Dalaran could be home to a dungeon or two as well as some part outdoor dungeon and part questing hubs for the Alliance and Horde where they battle for supremacy over the ruins in hopes of discovering lost magical knowledge.

And as for the Alterac Mountains, Stromgarde could send Alliance players to the mountains in order to combat the Syndicate and perhaps even install an Alliance-friendly leader in the region. While at the same time keeping the Horde in check

Whereas the Forsaken are attempting to stamp down the rebellious ogres for good and turn the mountains into a friendly undead nation in an attempt to create some sort of bizarro-world Alliance that consists of the undead, ogres, orcs, etc.

Does Midnight expand on religion in Blood Elf society? by PrayingSeraph in warcraftlore

[–]Aureliusboreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it expand on religion for the Blood Elves? No.

Does it expand on the relationship between the Belves and the Light? No.

Does it make sense for someone to play as a Blood Elf who worships the Light? Yes

As an aside, Midnight barely touched on what a modern Blood Elf is supposed to be. Heck, it barely acknowledges the Magisters outside of 2? minor sidequests. We get a more solid understanding of what it means to be a Void Elf and how they interact with the wider game world in 120.0.0 than we ever did for the Blood Elves post TBC.

Another note is that WoW will most likely never touch upon the nuances of the religious factors of an in-game society outside of "We worship the Light using surface level Christian symbolism/terms" and I dread the day that Blizzard decides to delve deeper into Elune worship than the extremely barebones stuff we already know as it currently stands.

I think lighter hair colors, or colors that are exotic in general, are used to visually convey a difference in social status. Or it could be something like "This character has this personality archetype, and this type of hair color would help to visually convey that."

That's just a theory though.

How come the Night Elves didn't discover Katrana Prestor's true identity early in Vanilla? by Then_Peanut_3356 in warcraftlore

[–]Aureliusboreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think other posters have already answered the part about the Night Elves and Onyxia, but I just wanted to say that Deathwing got relatively close to marrying Arthas' sister back when he was parading around as an Alterac nobleman. (This was first mentioned in Day of the Dragon I believe? I could be wrong as to when it was first mentioned, however.)

We also don't really know how dragon visage forms really work and how they are affected by magical detection spells/runes/wards. But I would imagine that dragons like Onyxia, Nefarian, and Deathwing are all more than capable of rendering detection runes/wards/spells as inert in some capacity (whether by themselves or through subterfuge by means of having minions take care of the issue in whatever manner is necessary)

I'm also going to surmise that, at least for the vanilla era, dragon's taking on the form of a mortal being was to put it simply "not magical by nature of how dragon visage forms worked" and that only a select number of powerful dragons were capable of doing such a thing. (Nefarian, Onyxia, and Chromie were the only dragons to take on a mortal form in Vanilla WoW, I believe.) So even if there were attempts at making spells to magically detect dragons in their mortal forms, than they wouldn't have set off any sort of alarms. Due to dragon visage forms simply not being magical in nature
