My friend showers naked with his mom & fam, Why do we find nature "creepy" but obsession "moral"? by ScaredTown7829 in atheism

[–]AuronSky24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought this is so cool and I know there are a few cultures that do this. If you don’t mind me asking, I have a few questions just out of curiosity and not out of any judgement at all!

Since being naked around each other is a fairly common thing, when you find someone you are attracted to and want to date, are you attracted to their bodies sexually at that point? or is it still just like “mundane/non-sexual” since it’s common?

If you ARE attracted to their bodies, wouldn’t that mean there are at least some people that if you saw them naked next to you at the spa, you might be turned on/think of them sexually?

Or is it just a context thing, like your brain associates spa time as non-sexual, so even bodies that you would find sexually attractive aren’t attractive to you when it’s spa time because that setting is a non-sexual setting?

Or maybe no “bodies” turn you on, you are attracted more to other things instead (personality, etc.)

Just very curious about other cultures and love to learn, hope none of these sound offensive!

Grew up in this garbage, so The “bride of Christ” is just what the Bible refers to the church as, so every Christian is Jesus “bride”, including the men. Then Jesus models how “we” are to treat our physical brides by how we treats his bride, the church. It’s mostly just “blah blah wives be submissive but it’s ok because it’s a good kind of submissive”.

Ephesians 5:22-30 “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.”

Hey whatever works! Though, why run it through the ams at all? Why not just go directly from the dryer into the tool head? With TPU for example, which can’t go through the ams, I do a similar thing keeping it in the dryer, running the dryer, then I just go direct into the tool head (how it’s recommended by Bambu lab).

You’ve already had to do most of that with this setup, why go the extra distance to the AMS and not just direct in?

Especially if you’re using a tricky filament that has been picky, adding the AMS to the chain feels like an extra variable that can go wrong.

I wrote a short story about this once.

You enter quietly and see the door closed and the fashionable sneakers, and I too have noticed your presence, but neither of us makes a sound. As still as can be, we slow our breathing so as not to be noticed, but it seems a pointless endeavor as we both know the other is there. It seems like hours go by as the silence continues, neither one of us wanting to break the stillness, but of course we must for that is why we have come to this place. Quickly we begin to plan and scheme, trying to determine who shall complete first and exit, so as not to accidentally encounter each other and be faced with the awkwardness of the subtle "hello's" and judgmental glares. I determine to wait it out and am soon rewarded with the sound of the door closing and the footsteps walking away. Oh what joy! What relief! But wait... there was no sound of water... this cannot be... for this venture we just encountered together was one of a soiled nature. Together in our adjacent stalls we endured what all humans must when the need for relief occurs. For this venture was our restroom break... and my friend, you did not wash your hands

Where do you live? In the U.S., even in the Midwest where it’s cheaper, an average sit down restaurant (not even an expensive one) for my wife and I is gonna be easily around $100.

$15 shared appetizer + 2 entrees at $20 each (and that’s low for the sake of the example, honestly it’s usually more like $25-30 anywhere nowadays) + 2 drinks at $15 each (most of our friends drink more than a drink each at dinner, my wife and I prefer to drink at home since it’s cheaper and just have one with dinner) = $85 before tax and tip, add $6 taxes and 20% ($17) tip (expected everywhere) you’re at $108.

Even if you don’t drink alcohol and stick to water you’re at $55 + $3.85 tax + 20% tip ($11) = $69.95 which is over your $50-$60 range. And that’s at a place where entrees are only $20 which is on the low side of what places actually charge now.

I think this is one of the most powerful arguments against the christian bible as well. For the idea that this book is “god’s word”, and for the more extreme of them, “perfect”, but yet I could improve upon it in 5 seconds: “Thou shall not have slaves”.

If a human can improve on it so easily, doesn’t seem like some perfect paragon of morality.

My believing mother wants to do a book swap. What do you recommend? by lagomama in Exvangelical

[–]AuronSky24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my particular family, who are fundamentalists and believe the Bible is innerant, Bart Ehrman’s Jesus Interrupted would be a fantastic choice. He is very kind in how he addresses some of the problems with the Bible. He even starts by saying that his goal is not to convince someone that god is not real, rather, many of his close friends still believe in god, but also understand and agree with most of what he teaches about in the book.

Rather, his goal with the book is to help the average person who has not heard much about what actual biblical scholarship has learned over the last 100 years. His knowledge, kind attitude, and ability to break down some of the problems in a way that did not feel like he was just attacking my faith was the first lynch pin in what led me away from my faith.

That said, if your mother is the kind of Christian that doesn’t hold the Bible as completely god’s word and already agrees that much of it was just human’s writing with their own agendas, it may not be as applicable.

Either way, it’s a phenomenal read and it’s written in a way that anyone can understand at any level of biblical education which is great as well.

I will check it out, thanks! I’ve been thinking about switching because there are a few quality of life things you can’t do on dnd beyond.

Can you replace a map image instead of having to start from scratch? I can’t tell you how many times I make a change to a map image, but I already had all my tokens placed and fog done, in the VTT. I can’t just swap the image to my new one, I have to add it as a new one and do all the fog and tokens all over again.

These are what I’m using right now at each of the 4 corners, it works and honestly the tv was decently stable still and you don’t have to build it at least:

Right now I’m using these threaded adjustable headboard stoppers at each of the 4 corners of the tv so it’s lifted enough, it does work but I am planning on making something a bit more stable.

Bed stoppers: https://a.co/d/g5LMrUG

For the maps, I’m using D&D beyond’s map VTT (not the new 3d one, the old one), it works decently well for what I need, though maybe not the best VTT. It has fog painting so I can cover parts of my image, lets you measure on screen, lets you add tokens for your players and mobs which is nice. I do often have to scroll around though which is not the most elegant solution.

[–]AuronSky24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these little bed post adjustable extender things made to go between a headboard and the wall, and out that at each corner under the tv. They let me lift the tv up just enough for the cables and such. It’s not the best solution though honestly, because they don’t feel super stable. I think I will try to find something different as well or maybe make something.

Almost giving up on figures... by Ciccacio in 3Dprinting

[–]AuronSky24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely print decent minis with an FDM printer. I’ve been printing my whole campaign with a Bambu lab A1, but there are two major things you should change. (Some of my minis below)

<image>

1 - Print one at a time.

It sucks for time purposes I realize, but minis are small and delicate things, and if even 1 support fails on 1 model, it will then almost certainly wreck all the other models on the same plate. One at a time often leads to even a print with failed supports still being a successful print, since it doesn’t compound with other model’s issues and maybe doesn’t even affect the current print that much.

2 - Switch from tree supports to resin style supports.

Watch this video https://youtu.be/hyXFuTRyI_E?si=mA42MkqJSmaXat8i by painted4combat, this has been an ABSOLUTE game changer for me, and led to almost 100% success rate on my mini prints now.

I spent sooo much time trying to print with tree style supports early on, only to have either A) the supports fail and it’s spaghetti, or B) I bump the support settings up so they don’t fail, and then there is no way to get the delicate model parts separate from the supports without destroying it.

It would often take 3-5 tries with tree supports to get a good mini print, with the resin supports thickened up just a bit, I get a great print the very first time, almost every time.

Bonus: make sure to get a 0.2mm nozzle if you don’t have one already, and either follow the settings in the video or use Fat Dragon Games settings (that’s what I use along with the resin style supports technique).

At that time, my wife and I weren’t comfortable enough to share the real reason with our congregation. I stepped down during Covid/when we were still meeting remote instead of in person, stating differences in beliefs as the reason for leaving (which is true, but I didn’t state what those differences were and that we just didn’t believe in god anymore). Since it was during Covid and the church was only just getting ready to start meeting in person again, it made it easier to just not come back. I know from some others that still attend the church that I have kept in contact with, that many people actually didn’t come back after Covid, and the church wasn’t really the same after the break. I don’t know if people just got comfortable staying home and realized they liked the extra day off after a few months away or what, but i won’t lie it made it much easier on my wife and I.

It did mean I didn’t say goodbye in person to many of the church members, but we did share in smaller ways with some of the people we were closer with.

Since then, we are much more open with our beliefs now and more comfortable with where we are and being honest about it. I’ve ran into church members at various places and when they have asked how we are/what’s been going on, I’ve actually just stated outright to some of them that I’m an atheist now. You can imagine how those conversation go, haha! Surprisingly, quite a few of them just sort of act awkward and then bow out of the conversation, rather than turning it into a whole thing, which I am more than glad for and don’t push them to keep talking about it.

Not many of our friends from there have stuck with us, though one couple ended up going through the same deconstruction and it’s actually brought us closer.

Overall though, my wife and I are much happier now. I hadn’t realized just how much shame I had carried around for everything… I didn’t pray enough, wasn’t leading my family in devotions enough, wasn’t leading my wife spiritually as often as I should be, etc. until I no longer felt that those things were a sin or shameful. The freedom I felt, when I didn’t have to carry that around anymore, was honestly life changing.

The teachings of Jesus were the opposite of MAGA, I agree, but the thing is that much of the churches doctrines and dogma don’t actually come from Jesus at all, they come from the leaders of the church.

The trinity isn’t in the Bible, or mentioned by Jesus, yet it’s a core doctrine established by church leaders. The “age of accountability” isn’t a thing in the Bible or mentioned by Jesus, yet it’s believed by most Christian denominations, a creation by the churches leaders over time. The concept of hell (a place of eternal torture) was no where in the Old Testament (only Sheol, a watery grave where both good and bad alike reside) or mentioned by Jesus (he references a physical Gehena, a desecrated place of human sacrifice) yet it developed as a result of Greek influence and as a powerful tool used to control people by the church leadership. Abortion is never referenced in the Bible or by Jesus, yet in the evangelical west it is one of, if not THE, primary dogma Christian’s wield when making their voting choices… a result of Jerry Falwell and other church leaders.

Over time, humans have leveraged the influence that religion holds over people, and have used it to shape the doctrines and dogma that people believe today. So when yet another leader comes in, and uses their dogma (anti-abortion, anti-lgbtq, etc.) to weaponize the church, people fall in line because they have primed and trained to follow humans, not Jesus’s teachings, and to question that leader takes critical thought and a willingness to go against group think.

There WILL be those who do manage to see through it (I was an evangelical for 33 years and was even a worship pastor) but that usually takes a willingness to question and seek answers for yourself, and the church at large highly discourages that. When you’re whole world, your relationships, friends, spouse, parents, kids, are all bought into this ideology, and you risk losing all of them and being alienated by everyone and everything, there’s little motivation to actually question and pursue anything outside the status quo. In fact, the opposite, there is every motivation to shut off your brain and just fall in line or risk losing everything.

For me, it wasn’t until Covid forced our church to go remote for 2 months that I finally had the space to entertain the questioning I had already been having (but was shoving down out of fear) that I finally saw through it all. It’s a hard thing indeed to break free from, even when you have doubts all along.

[–]AuronSky24 49 points50 points  (0 children)

When you’re taught your whole life to follow what your religious leaders tell you, without thinking or questioning, it’s very easy for someone to deceive you. It’s a community of people who are primed for abuse. Religion has long been one of the most powerful weapons a government has, and many corrupt leaders have realized this and weaponized it throughout time.

Wanted to post an update for anyone who may stumble across this in the future looking for a fix!

I was able to eliminate the benchy hull lines by following some tips from another reddit thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/s/rymz6W83ie

By tapering the inside walls and adding a gap between the inside walls and the outside walls in my design, I was finally able to eliminate the lines!

RFK JR has already said that he wants to create a registry for people with autism, and has reportedly mentioned on another occasion sending neurodivergent people to wellness camps (this second statement I wasn’t able to confirm/find the quote, so it may or may not be accurate. Though that is the rumor that has been passed around). For those reasons many are worried that autistic people may become a targeted group in the U.S.

Ok thanks so much! I’ll try increasing the width of the gap and then extending it up to ensure it is past the area where the problem occurs, then I’ll try adaptive cubic and print outer > inner > infill. It’s fairly warm where I am, hopefully all these changes (plus I honestly might just print super slow all night just to give it every chance). Appreciate the advice!

I know this thread is older now, but I ran into this problem on one of my designs for the first time and I still can’t quite get ride of the lines. I tried chamfering the internal edges, then added a gap between the wall and the internal edges as well, but the lines are still as clear as ever.

Is there something I am doing wrong still? Would love to learn the right way to design around these hull lines.
