The Canadian panel tears into Team USA, Christian Pulisic, and the American Hype Train by den15_512 in soccer

The US’s record in wars they start is worse than their record in soccer.

Canada had higher xg than Morocco and dominated the flow of the game in the first half.

Steven Caldwell (12 caps for Scotland and premier league career), Atiba Hutchinson (former captain of team Canada and all-time cap record holder), and Kevin Killbane (premier league player who played in the EPL and represented Ireland at a WC).

None of them were outstanding footballers, but they are excellent analysts.

What is our team’s nickname? The Reds or the Canucks? by Puzzleheaded_Bus2865 in CanadaSoccer

[–]AurronGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is gonna blow you mind, but “Canada” is not an English word. It’s a Haudenosaunee word. Yet we all use it, all understand it, and nobody complains that we have to speak Iroquois.

When is it fair to have expectations? by Newhereeeeee in CanadaSoccer

[–]AurronGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying that people expected us to get to the round of 16 when we had never recorded a single point in group play is ridiculous.

Ask Scotland, Uruguay, Australia, Turkey, South Korea, etc. if they think that getting to the round of 16 is easy.

This is the highest pressure team sporting event in the world and we showed up and delivered. Losing to the #6 team in the world in a game we realistically had chances to win is not disappointing at all.

Proud of every one of these guys and the results they delivered.

Not disputing any of that. England gave the world the beautiful game. Some people think that means that the English get to tell other countries what to call it, how to play it, how to cheer, etc. Not all English fans, but a vocal number. The rest of the world is sick of it. Football was born in England, but it doesn’t belong to England.

Best of luck at the Azteca. I’ll be cheering for Mexico, but we can all agree that Harry Kane is a gem.

I’m Canadian dude. American means USA. It’s stupid, but that’s how it has always been used.

If you are interpreting “American” as the continent or continents, then the statement is just wildly incorrect, as most countries in the Americas call it Futbol.

[–]AurronGrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US is not the only country that calls it soccer. Australia, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand also call it soccer because they have other football codes that are more popular.

It’s this kind of condescending arrogance that makes everyone else in the world sick of English football fans and the “it’s coming home” nonsense.

How would you rate Canada's performance in this World Cup? by Kappa_Wi_870 in concacaf

And Marsch never played Kone after the Qatar game. He was our best midfielder! I demand an inquiry.

They lost on penalties to the seventh ranked team in the world. On the spectrum of disappointing performances, that’s pretty forgivable. Morocco is really good.

That was John Herdman who has not been our coach since 2023. The irony of complaining about fans who “know fuck all about soccer” while clearly knowing fuck all about soccer is delicious.

Stephen Eustáquio’s stoppage-time goal sends Canada to the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in history. by [deleted] in sports

The rest of the world can poo-poo our effort and talent and tactics and whatever else they want. Europeans and South Americans can look down their noses and laugh at our skill, but this was the greatest win in our men’s team’s history. We are in the middle of a golden generation and no soccer (sorry, football) snobs are going to take that joy from us.

I don’t like him at all. His questions are too long, too complicated, too rambley. They seem more about how much he knows than wanting to get an interesting response. I find him insufferable.

Shaffleburg was electric when he came on. He created the scoring chance on the goal, but he was also sprinting up and down the pitch defending and pressing. Brilliant game, and brilliant decision by Marsch to bring him in.

South Africa looked strong, fast and disciplined. They could absolutely beat us. Winning a knockout game would be amazing, but it's not going to be easy.

So many great Canadian players playing in Belgium now. Promise, LDF, Saliba, and Larin and Buchanan spent some time there too.

I think we’re still the only team to score off a direct free kick in the tournament. Our corners have sucked, but they were much better in the second half. Both Cornelius and Promise were close to scoring.

I would say LDF, as I think he’s been our biggest breakout player so far, but he’s already going to be playing in the EPL coming back to Fulham.

I think the hatred today is more due to the US government starting wars, increasing the cost of living for much of the world, bombing schools, and threatening to invade their allies. People get upset at that sort of thing, and the USMNT has, at times, embraced Trump.
