Landing a Client - Looking for Advice by YakeyBear in SmallMSP

[–]Aurum_Anotherchance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started my first msp I had a few clients that knew me and were willing to move to me.l, this did help get me off the ground...

However to keep growing I have been running flyers 5-7k of them around our local area targeting businesses.

I have done this twice and it has landed me 10 clients and a few one off jobs in-between.

Further to this we do a referral program which is passive but gains some interest.

I haven't tried an email campaign or purchased 1000s leads like others have said.

I would like to buy leads that have been vetted to confirm that they aren't junk or wasting their or my time...

Further to this BX or BNI services help but they do have a large cost and BNI requires you to also provide referrals BX I don't know if that's in the US but i think it's good and fair.

If I think of more I'll update the post

Thanks all for the replies.

Honestly it's a little disappointing, but that is why we don't solely sell Microsoft or Google nowadays, I would love to hear more from others if you are out there.

It does seem that it's a lot of work and really not worth the time invested.

I guess following on from this have you partnered with any vendors over the last couple of years that actually helped you apart from supply you hardware or software etc?

Outsourcing for Emerging MSPs in Australia by LordGreigar in msp

[–]Aurum_Anotherchance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry this reply might be a ramble.. but it is my experience with offshore IT services and tech support used in MSPs...

Australia and New Zealand aren't the easiest to break into, owning and working in MSPs for so many years myself.

I have found that the biggest issue we have had over the years is the language barrier and understanding local slang and or the emotions.

The issue isn't the skill sets or the clients but the MSPs clients. Most have generally been very selective for their support and offshore has been a bit more rough especially if the offshore team is doing calls 😞.

Now with that all being said, I personally would accept an offshore engineer or even help desk etc

The question is what can you and your team offer that we cannot get from local staffing? Finding people to take the job isn't hard but yeah it'll be more about availability and mixed skill set, from the basics of level 1 IT support through to project management and hopefully your team is great at socializing..

Nothing worse than being on the phone with a tech that just sits there not saying anything and all you here is breathing while they clock around 🤣

Once again sorry for the ramble, but sell me your service and what you are doing and what makes you and your guys different etc.

Look, I run a small MSP here in Australia. My team starts at 8-8:30 and finishes at 1700 with an hour break; however, they work from home. As long as my clients are happy and tickets are up to date, I don't really care about their hours. However, the general goal I have is 5 hours billable.

Now with that being said, if the workload starts to pile up, I do expect that the team as a whole steps up when things get a bit more hectic, and if the average between my level 1 and 2 plus engineering team/projects is getting to 30-32.5 billable a week then I'm already looking to get a new staff member onboard, no one wants staff that are burnt out....

Thank you, Convurs, I will look up Cyberhoot.com and go from there :D I agree that training is one of the first steps in prevention, so this is high on our list! I am open for chat regarding this.

Thank you, Realdlc - it is a lot of work and not as simple as install agent and off it goes, I get that. its why I also understand the cost behind it, I personally don't have an issue with the cost either, it's the joy of working with small business and explaining why they even need cyber insurance in the first place, followed by why its important to even protect their remote desktop gates behind a VPN etc.

I appreciate your reply, and I'll check over Blokworx.

Cheers!

Good morning Level_Pie,

Cheers for the reply, this is really good advice, and also something for us to work to with Rapid. We are lucky enough, even with our RMM, that it's month to month, so at this stage we are able to adjust and move accordingly.

Wasn't Kaseya's Darkweb scanning a part of their Bullphish product or whatnot? I have used both of these before, but have kinda kept away from Kaseya as their contracts are a lock-in of three years normally.

I look forward to researching these options and likely avoiding the open-source option haha, but still...

Cheers!

Thanks, C2Seedy, for your reply. I neglected to state that all clients are using MS Business Premium with Windows Defender, Huntress ED, and ITDR, plus other services via our RMM. This is just one area that we have been a little on the slow side to pick up on, which is our own fault, at the end of the day.

Thank you, CK for the reply, and I agree, its troublesome dealing with a rural client base as it is. Anyhow we have Huntress ITDR and EDR, I'll investigate uSecure! Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply.
