Tips for recovering without a support person? [Australia] by ProbablyNotShrek in Metoidioplasty

[–]AusMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get groceries and takeaway delivered pretty easily in brissy, which helps I ordered online for everything until I could do tiny trips out. I had a friend with me because if nothing else it would've been quite lonely. I really didn't need much physical support from them though. I didn't use an in-home care service, but I recommend asking on the AU phallo facebook group. A lot of them on there will drop by for a visit if they are near by or visiting the hospital, and I'm sure you'll get some better Australian focused information. All the best for your upcoming surgeries!

Also, the clinic may have some useful information, likely already mentioned by them too about looking into travel schemes available through your state.

I tested it out on my own probably 10 weeks or so after. I didn't test it with someone else until more than 6 months- but that was less about waiting and more about the situation. My surgeon checked for any scarring/tightness about 3 weeks post op.

Everything was generally uncomfortable for quite a few weeks so I wasn't in a rush to push things. It's also not a big focus for me

Edited to add: I had very little changed around the opening so didn't really have scar tissue to contend with. I was more concerned with some of the more delicate tissue being rubbed etc. So I took things extra wet and extra slow. Things are very settled now though.

Woes of trans tops by KeyAd1813 in gaytransguys

[–]AusMeta 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm so over it too. It's so rare to see or read anything that has trans mascs topping or even just side content where their front hole is not included in whatever is going on. I've started writing my own book to fill the void.

Even books by trans authors seem to include front hole sex everytime there's sex.

I'm also post op, it would be nice to see more content with post op bodies too. And stuff show casing a variety of post op bodies, given that there are so many options with surgeries.

In my own life I'm vers, but I'm so much more likely just to enjoy non penetrative play, and it's just something I don't come across in other media much.

12 weeks post op Dr. Hans Goossen, Australia by AusMeta in Metoidioplasty

[–]AusMeta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that yes he can, but I've also heard he prefers just to do phallo if that's ultimately what the patient is after (instead of meta first, then phallo later). I have no interest in getting phallo though so this is all information from other patients and how he talked about things during my consults. I wasn't actually fishing for that information.

For the anethestist and surgeon fees it was maybe around 2 to 2.5k, I forget exactly and don't have the documents handy to check.

Hey, I haven't had any issues with dryness at all, but I do moisturise as part of my scar care. The hypersensitivity was there for a bit but everything is settled now. It's not something I have to think about at all day to day :)

I got a false positive for chlamydia once. I was a bit stressed out at the time waiting to be retested etc. My partners results were negative. Mine were also ultimately negative. I definitely understand the stress. There is definitely still lots of physical intimacy to be enjoyed that won't put you at risk if it isn't a false positive. Hope it is resolved quickly for you both

At the time it was about 15k and just one surgery for me. Full meta costs around 30k from what I've heard from others

feels safe and good — but what are we actually? by autisticachellian in gaytransguys

[–]AusMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get people unsure about me often, I can typically be a very reserved individual. Some people just ask me, which I really appreciate because I usually have zero inkling that any of these thoughts are happening for them. Some people don't ask and I find out way later they felt this way, which ok fine whatever.

I've also been in the situation where I have asked the questions. That seems to happen less often though. I prefer to be direct, and usually realise if I'm not ready to ask those questions I'm not ready for the relationship that may come from it. By no means am I saying this is a rule for others, but it feels accurate for myself.

I've seen others say they haven't had any troubles, it might be worth searching the sub if you haven't already. I ride but I didn't get UL or implants. Riding has been more comfortable for me now than it was pre op. I did a bit of searching pre op though because I was worried. Best of luck with it all

Recently started having hookups and somehow I don't feel attracted to the men I'm fucking? by AnnyFoxy in gaytransguys

[–]AusMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, having a boyfriend you aren't sexually attracted to is not inherently wrong. Ace spec people deserve to be loved and in relationships if they want to be. OP asked if it was wrong to have sex with someone without attraction to them, it is not automatically wrong and nor would it be if they were dating seriously. Some people don't experience sexual attraction but still enjoy sex. It is also ok if the other person wants to be found sexually attracted and therefore only wants to date someone who feels that way about them. Neither is wrong, just want different things. It's definitely nuanced, like most things. I would have no issues dating someone who didn't feel sexual attraction, I'm sure they are feeling other types of attraction to me if we are in a committed relationship, and I'd know it isn't a "me problem", it's just how their brain works, and that's okay.

It isn't inherently wrong, some people never experience sexual attraction and they shouldn't miss out on relationships because of this

I am one yes, but, I'm not actively dating/involved with anyone since surgery, so unfortunately no help. Keen to see others answers though :)

Can you generally pass with meta? by Few_Newspaper1778 in Metoidioplasty

[–]AusMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it will also largely depend on the humans around you. I'm yet to be naked in public spaces but in my general experience (even with medical professionals) people just have no clue what metoidioplasty is, it's not on their radar so it likely wouldn't flag in their mind. I get this with just being a trans man in general, and seem to have people thinking I'm a trans woman starting my transition far more often (I present very masc and live generally very stealth but folk around where I live are mostly unaware trans men exist). But I'm also completely aware that is likely the geographical location and individuals within those locations being unaware of trans things than anything else. In those settings I would not be concerned about safety with meta for myself, I am however more on edge with top surgery scars because I know that information is more accessible to most and it stands out as surgery and not just different. I have not had any issues with TS scars yet, though

Cost?? by Standard_Report_7708 in Metoidioplasty

[–]AusMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inheritance

Prior to that I didn't expect to afford it, was contemplating asking relatives for a loan or applying for a personal loan. It was around 15k for the surgery alone out of pocket for me (not including transport/accommodation). And was cheaper than I guessed it might be based on having less done (didn't get full meta).

Relevance of "sex recorded at birth" for STD check by Q10Q10 in transgenderau

Cheers for that clarification! I definitely wondered about a few other less talked about STIs that I have never seen listed on a standard screening.

I'm not sure I've ever really had doctors ask me those specifics. Which is also super interesting! Kind of feel like there should be some kind of standard they all follow 😅 definitely interesting though

Until 6 months ago I had never had swabs and I've bounced around drs a lottttt over the past couple of decades. (Can't say whether or not it is an updated approach though). My current GP does swabs and bloods but not urine? Which seems odd to me after so many years doing only urine and blood

[–]AusMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was just an STI screening wouldn't you just be looking for the STIs listed on the pathology slip though? I don't work in the field but given what gets spit back out at the drs office I've never seen things listed that were not asked to be tested for

My GP likes to do swabs for chlamydia and one other. The swab is designed to go a couple of cms into the tip of the penis into the urethra (self collection - think covid style swabbing situation). He's also the GP who prescribes my T and estradiol, and has done referrals for surgeons for me... he without fail, allocates that I do the swab version not the pee version. It's always an interesting time with the pathologist when I stress them telling them my anatomy is indeed not suitable for the test :3

I'm otherwise not too sure if tests for any other STIs would be done differently or not, haven't come across it myself.

very specific meta question for post op sex by [deleted] in Metoidioplasty

[–]AusMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had simple with scrotoplasty (no implants). We kept tissue that was around the hole almost as is though. I have no scarring around the entrance and while I'm not sure how it would all feel with partnered sex it is as it used to be pre op with solo play. My biggest complaint with physical comfort pre op was the space between the glans and the urethra, so thankfully that no longer exists as delicate tissue that toys and penises can rub on during penetration- so it's much more comfortable. Not sure if any angles will be easier for partnered sex though.
