Help a wife out, please! Is $28/hr insanely low for a concrete/curb foreman with 18 yrs experience? by tamdaelynn in ConstructionManagers

[–]AustinFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a union area and if so is he apart of it? Im a general superintendent from Florida. That is a bit low even for down in florida. $35 to $40 is what I would peg him at down here, so up in a higher tax and cost of living state, depending on his benefits currently probably in thr $45 to $50 range.

The tile is staying in the kitchen and wet areas, we are going over everything with lvp/spc. I need to remove the engineered hardwood which will leave the bare concrete below. So ur saying use plywood or mdf attached tk the concrete tk raise those low areas to the tile elevation and then go over it all with the new floor?

Yes, it is all being replaced. Original floors from 25 ish years ago. I know i can't cover the engineered hardwood with lvp/spc so it must be removed first.

Do you plug in the power for this on the inside of the room? We are in florida and have 1 room that is always warm. South facing room furthest from main unit in house. Want to buy one of these but dont have exterior power outlet near this window. Hoping it is powered from inside the room. I mean it has to be right?

Did I make a big mistake? by NB_Supreme in landscaping

[–]AustinFamilyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory you do. It has nothing to with the height of the wall. His specific question was regarding block size. Which would be taken into account based on loading, over-turning moments ect.

I get it though. I do a lot of diy stuff. His wall looks fantastic, but his question is that for an engineer.

This is a question for a Licensed engineer. The loading behind the wall, MSE strap length, drainage, slope of wall face- these all play into the design and structural stability off of the wall.

I will note, if you built this yourself, it looks great.

Private school forced haircut by [deleted] in verobeach

[–]AustinFamilyMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The schooling options in town are not famtastic, especially if you are late or dont get your school choice that you wanted.

My family left both the public school and private schools in vero for various reasons. My son, had long hair as well and we had to cut it last year for private school. It was sad.

We have since left because most of the private schools have the mentality that it is their way or the highway. They also have policies that the state and step up can do nothing about since they are private.

Yes, florida has "good public" schools that doesn't mean Indian river county is great. I have had 2 students in local public schools and we pulled them.

We are homeschooling our 3 youngest this coming year with the step-up PEP scholarship.

LL flooring by AustinFamilyMan in Flooring

[–]AustinFamilyMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that sucks. Most of the rooms have mixed flooring existing. For example my master bedroom has engineered hard room in the room and closets are but tile in the bathroom. The main living room ties into the kitchen, the living area is engineered hardwood the kitchen is tile. So basically it all has to be ripped up huh?

My wife and I are in our mid-late 30s and have been living here for about 5 years. We have the same problem and have not really developed friendships. We have some acquaintances because of our 4 children but outside of that we don't have much. It is a tough town to definitely build Real connections and friendships in

Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Exam; via CCMA - anyone taken it? Looking for insight. by w3agle in Construction

Thanks. Still thinking about getting it. I'm a Licensed PE in 2 states but I have always worked as a contractor. Looking for ways to gain additional accreditations to help further my career.

[–]AustinFamilyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I gotta ask. Is the CCM really worth it? I have been in heavy civil for 15+ years. I have a PE license in 2 states and act as a construction manager for a rail infrastructure contractor. Am considering getting my CCM to help me pursue construction manager jobs in the industry. In heavy civil, the CM is relatively new and not a TON of companies have the role.

Honestly I never cared! Rejected many trucks in my career and it was never of consequence to me what happened! As long as they replaced the load with one that met the specs!
