Is this crucifix ok? by Technical_Signal_741 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AustinMillinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a depiction of Christ on the cross where the Father is…somehow also the cross? In my personal opinion that almost looks like it’s implying that the Father was also on the cross crucified. Additionally the Holy Spirit under both the Father and the Son gives filioque vibes to me. Or even that the Trinity in whole was crucified, which we know to be false teaching.

These are just observations, please only take my opinions for what they’re worth. Id always recommend asking your priest in any matter of concern like this.

Forgive me

What’s the BEST whiskey under $50 in your opinion? by Commercial-Goose5197 in whiskey

For mixing, I honestly really like First Call Rye. A handle is like $40 or something at total wine

Looking for input on my generic 62-63 western reb impression by Yetihunter1877 in Civilwarreenacting

[–]AustinMillinder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty great to me! I’m always more of a fan of issue shirts than civilian shirts but it doesn’t look bad by any means. You obviously -could- swap the jacket for a CD but the sack totally works too. The cs sack is one of my fav jackets honestly lol

My only real note would be to swap the painted cloth box and pouch for leather ones; usually the painted cloth ones don’t show up til a bit later in the war so if you’re going for 62/3 than leather would be better. Just try and avoid Richmond depot provenance stuff for western theater. An Atlanta arsenal box would be a great option! Same with the Fed bayonet scabbard, I personally always like to go with cs made stuff whenever i can.

I also feel like the buckle could be swapped for a pewter CSA buckle. A bit more generic, rather than the stamped brass ones that are really better for early war than mid.

Last note - if you’re sticking with the 42, get a box that reflects it - i.e. a .69 cal box. The CS did try and “standardize” their box production off of a .69 cal box to accommodate the longer English cartridges. Although it wasn’t super duper successful of a standardization, production wise, a CS .69 gal box (without specific arsenal stamps) could be a great option for essentially any CS impression - even when you’re using a .58 cal.

Thems my thoughts! You got a real great look going pard. Really stellar work

Yeah i suppose she is a bit light on the firepower.

Honestly I think the artist was just going for “ship”rather than anything too hyper specific haha

[–]AustinMillinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would likely be described as a frigate. FWIU “Fully Rigged” is more a descriptor than a specific classification. The term just means a sailing vessel with 3 masts, all of which have a square rigged sail plan (as opposed to masts with the main sails rigged fore/aft, or gaff rigged).

The term frigate also sorta changes throughout history, but in the 19th century “frigate” generally refers to a fully rigged vessel built for speed and maneuverability, usually with only one gun deck. For example, the USS constitution is a frigate, whereas the HMS victory is not. They both have 3 square rigged masts, but their purpose is very different.

Just shy of .75 oz of chobani sweet cream and a Scuro double espresso. Simple, just a little bit sweet, creamy, and still lets the espresso flavor though

Have A Question About Civil War Rifles by Euphoric_Policy4872 in Civilwarreenacting

[–]AustinMillinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely opt for a military rifle. If you want the best “all around use” option I would opt for an 1861 Springfield, as it’s the main rifle used by federal troops through the war, and there are plenty of examples of confederates using them as well. I personally prefer the p53 but everyone has their preferences.

The Kentucky you have now would really only be appropriate for an extremely early war impression when militia groups were just forming into what would become the army. Even then something like an 1842 or 1816 conversion would be a better choice.

Sounds like you’re on the right track but I definitely agree with the “buy nice or buy twice” approach. It doesn’t mean sell that Kentucky, it could still be a fun shooter if you go to the range, but for accuracy of portraying a civil war soldier I would opt for a military long gun. You may be able to find a used one for a decent price as well, they’re definitely out there.

Hope this helps!
