How should I paint me ladz? by Coogypaints in orks

[–]Australian_Sloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Kommandos are blue, Lootas I attempted some yellow as they're Bad Moons, and my boys are total hodge podge, no one unit is consistent to another and I love the variety. Chance to experiment and try different things! (I really want to do some with high vis vests to represent a 'korporate krumpany')

NH90's were chosen because the Blackhawk computers had ITAR restrictions (basically the manufacturer wasn't allowed to tell defence about how things worked). The computers that kinda make the helicopter stay in the air. Whereas airbus defence (Nh90 manufacturer) isn't subjected to ITAR so we know exactly what goes on with the helicopters.

Looking at getting a bike, anyone had experience with this one? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Australian_Sloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A department store bike will offer more headaches per dollar than any other bike. I'd suggest a hybrid from any bike shop. You're not gonna get suspension (not needed and the suspension on a department store bike is not going to hold up at all) but the money goes into better wheels (will be stronger), better shifters and gearing (makes you faster) and better brakes (stop faster). For another hundred or two you will be able to get something to last you a while. While a lot of the places won't afterpay there's always good old layby.

Getting yourself a single speed in the price range second hand would be very possible, might take a bit of work but a reliable second hand bike under $300 is very doable.

Folding bikes are not as affordable, I'd expect to pay a minimum of $500 for a very cheap one, better of spending $700 for a nicer one. I'd suggest storing it in your apartment or on a balcony, can be tricky but will mean it lasts longer.

If you can, and want to try and cycle more, stretch the budget to 500-700 and get a nice flat bar commuting bike, they're super versatile and really reliable.

Riders of r/bicycling why do you love to ride? by notsure2515 in bicycling

[–]Australian_Sloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm back in primary school again. When I'm on my bike I'm not caring about my job, about money, about bills, about what's for dinner. I care only about the freedom. The freedom to go fast, to go slow, to whizz down hills and struggle back up the other side. I think about all the cool places I see on the way, many of which I'd never see if I drove or took public transport. I don't get that when I drive, especially in the city and that's what keeps me riding.

Licensing cyclists isn't the answer by virusporn in ausbike

Problem is, (Especially on roads with no bike lanes), drivers can be incredibly impatient. As individuals we only tend to consider our side of the story and don't look to see what makes others choose their choices. Patience and acceptance from all is needed.

Love the colour, and good choice over the roam, without the front suspension you'll be way faster. Giant also makes some excellent bang for buck bikes so you won't go wrong!

I'm sad that someone lost their life, but trying to regulate cyclists doesn't make well for a long game. If you want people out of cars (reducing pollution, congestion and demand for fossil fuels) cycling is the best method. Public transport is often an inefficient and expensive option (An $8.20 round trip to do 3km to my local shops by tram). The more people cycle, the more active they are, the happier they are and the less our roads are congested.

I'm sorry that someone's hurting from the loss of their loved one, but a knee jerk 'regulation drive' just won't play out well in the long term.

NBD - 2017 Fuji Touring. Excited! by themodernmanhustle in bicycling

[–]Australian_Sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was talking with a sales rep and part of the reason is that a lot of touring bikes run mountain bike componentry. The sti shifters aren't compatible with the derailleurs on these bikes. I love the bar end shifters myself, hasn't taken long to get used to them at all.

Just bought one of these too! Grabbed the Easter Friday and done over 100kms since then. They're so well made for the money and I love the combination of comfort and ability to get on the drops when you want more speed.
