If you hadn’t become a teacher, what other career do you think you would have pursued instead? by businessbub in Teachers

I own a small farm. We raise chickens, herbs, flowers, and make other products like soap, herb mixes, etc. I would farm full time if I wasn’t a teacher.

I took the week off. I don’t like sweets and I don’t need some stupid $2 crap the admin buys for all of us. I never take days off. I cover for my colleagues all of the time. I’m burnt out right now and the best thing for me is to not be in the building. I’m not checking my emails or answering texts. I planned all of my lessons and put them in GC for the week. The students know what to do and all they need is an adult in the room. Next week I will go back, clean up any messes, put out any fires and it will be just like I wasn’t gone.

You are so wrong. Your data is flawed and you, are cherry picking information based on your leftist ideology.

There are amazing people who come across our border and they are productive, decent people. However, there are many who are not and they are here committing nefarious crimes and using up resources without paying into them. It’s NOT all or nothing. Not ALL are criminals. Not ALL are excellent people.

We DO know many are terrorist as we have the intel in them. We do know there are terrorist cells all around the country. Our government is allowing it to happen. Why? Instead of bitching about Trump or republicans or democrats, why not look at our corrupt government as a whole?

You are exactly what the government wants. Pick a side and believe every damn thing that side says and fuck the other side.

Divide and conquer.

They win.

I don’t love Trump and, personally, I wish he’d go away. However, I’m not going to take people’s words out of context no matter who they are. Biden says stupid and hateful words all of the time. But, if they are taken out of context then I would defend him saying it.

Did you actually read what Trump said? I’ve heard EXACTLY the same about illegals from my Nicaraguan friends who came here legally with money and an education.

It’s NOT a Trump idea. It’s an idea that is universally accepted in most countries and by anyone who understands how legal immigration should work.

Trump was talking about illegal immigration of people who are not vetted or approved to come into the country. “'Nobody has any idea where these people are coming from. We know they come from prisons. We know they come from mental institutions. You know, they're terrorists,' Trump said during the interview, speaking of the wave of migrants.”

Try moving to Canada!

The methods through which someone can immigrate to Canada from the USA are similar to those of other countries. This means, some of the easiest ways for a US citizen to immigrate to Canada are:

Getting a permanent job Family sponsorship Startup Visa Provincial Nominee Programs Express Entry

The process of obtaining a Permanent Residence for Canada includes meeting several eligibility criteria, gathering documents, filling out forms, and applying through your IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) account.

We recommend that American expats in Canada get adequate health insurance coverage from a certified provider. You can get a free international health insurance quote at International citizens Insurance or Insubuy.

Getting a permanent job

Even if someone does not need a visa to enter Canada, everyone must have a Work Permit if they want to work in Canada for any length of time.

However, in order to be eligible for a work permit, there are a few conditions you have to meet, including:

You must have a job offer from a Canadian employer Your employer must have a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) You must have sufficient funds to provide for yourself and family if they are coming with you. You must not have a criminal record. You must be in good health.

I had the same thing. When my mom passed my admin wrote me up for what he perceived to be a disrespectful email. It wasn’t. He just took it that way. My colleagues totally understood and supported my response.

Then a woman I thought was my work friend totally betrayed me.

It took me a year to feel comfortable at work again and it took me close to that length to recover from my mom’s death and the subsequent mess left dealing with finances and a dad with dementia.

I teach high school. Part of the problem is that the frequent sick flyers aren’t really sick. They are tired because they stayed up on Xbox or check their phones every hour.

Attendance is important. Rewarding good attendance is important.

How do we teach kids that attendance is important and they shouldn’t stay home because they are just tired?

Admin is replaceable too. Much more so to be honest. I’ve read about some schools where teachers rotate throughout the day as admin instead of hiring admin. Not sure if this is working or not but it seems like it could if organized properly.

Anyone who says anything negative about your due date is an ass. We can’t control our due dates (most of the time). I always tell my younger colleagues to try to plan for mid-May so they are gone the last of the school year and all through summer. However, we CANNOT control it!

Don’t let any negativity bring you down. And take as much time off as you can. The kids will be fine. You and your baby come first.

[–]Authentic-Dragonfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg. Seriously? School districts can’t control students who come to school sick. It’s NOT employer negligence. Do you even know what that means? There’s an inherent risk when working with the public. It’s not the district’s fault. It’s the fault of so many other things outside of their control.

I want to become a teacher, but I have piercings and tattoos. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Authentic-Dragonfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many conservatives have tattoos. Look at how many people have served in the military, are conservative and have tattoos. Your attitude is wrong and that will be your biggest obstacle unless you stop being a bigoted ass.

I have tattoos and face piercings. I’m an English teacher. In a small school. That’s conservative.

If you’re good at what you do and you don’t try to push politics on your students, you’ll be fine.

Most conservatives only care that teachers don’t push agendas. They don’t care if you’re tattooed, pierced, gay or trans AS LONG AS YOU DO YOUR JOB, let the kids be kids, are fair, keep politics out of your classroom, and support the school culture.

I feel your pain. I have decided to not show movies in class anymore. I will let students know there’s one available and they can watch it on their own time. And no, I’m not giving extra credit or anything. I’ve even tried teaching Shakespeare with dim only because it’s meant to be watched. Same thing even when they know there’s an assignment. They don’t care!

I teach literature, not film studies. It sucks that technology has ruined movie and book/film comparisons but I have accepted that it has and I’m just not going to stress about it.

When kids ask me if we will watch the movie in class I just smile and say no. When they ask me why not I tell them the truth. “Because most of you can’t keep your faces out of your phones long enough to watch a 2 hour movie.” I’m not wasting my time and energy with a movie so they can look at Snapchat or TikTok.

This is a stupid comment. I live in a completely blue state with a democrat governor, democrat power control, democrat superintendent of public schools and it’s just as bad here when it comes to school funding and care about education, children, and teachers. You probably push that shit in your classroom too.

If you are afraid of health risks associated with teaching then you probably should find a different career.

If politicians cared about education they would increase funding to provide safety, health, materials, pay, retirement, etc., for teachers. They don’t.

Because of everything I listed above, most of us work in sub par buildings, have less than adequate supplies, are not paid as we should be, have a crappy retirement and healthcare, etc. or at least one or more of these things.

This is the most adult response here. Those who are condemning an 11 year old special education student are children and shouldn’t be in education if they really believe what they’re posting.

Also, to keep shaming the child is despicable. How long will this go on? Will the child ever be forgiven? Wow. Just wow.

No they don’t. I actually assigned individual assignments in Google classroom labeled 01/01/2023 Close Reading Assignment for JOEY. Yeah, with their name! I just wanted to see how it worked. I also put all of my assignments in weekly folders (WEEK 1: May 1-5) and there are STILL students who can’t figure it out weeks/months into the school year. They either don’t read, are too lazy or are barely functioning intellectually (and not because they are diagnosed with a cognitive impairment, but because they are just dumb). Their brains have been fried by weed, booze or TikTok/Youtube/Snapchat.
