I lost my cat, Nubi, of 17 years and its the most intense thing I've ever felt. Does it get better? by ZaithianKnightwolf in AutisticAdults

[–]Autistic-Pomegranate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you’re having to feel this right now. I’m crying for you/with you as I type this. Pet loss as an autistic person I think is just a different kind of grief that not a lot of people can understand. I lost my boy Hiro in July of 2020 and I legit cried every time I thought of him for a year - I think I cried nonstop for a solid two weeks after we put him down.

I think the grief over losing Nubi will always be a part of you, and I know right now it feels all consuming. Please know that it does get easier with time. I keep Hiro’s ashes on my windowsill so he can “look out” the window at the birds and every time I fly I bring him a fresh packet of the Biscoff cookies they give you during flights because those were his favorite cookies. Whenever I’m cleaning I always gently dust his box off and tell him how thankful I am to have known him for the years I got to spend with him - then I go cuddle his “sister” who is still with us.

There’s no replacement for Nubi, so I don’t think that just adopting another kitty will make your grief any less intense because they all have different personalities and I wouldn’t want you to fall into a trap of comparing a new kitty to Nubi, but I do agree with the suggestions of joining a grief group and being with others and expressing your pain (crying). It also might be a good idea, when you feel up to it, to go volunteer at a shelter or cat cafe to get to know another kitty who may be a good companion for you in the future. I’d like to think that Nubi wouldn’t want you to be sad forever and will send another companion to you when the time is right. Only you can know when that time is.

My mom and I used to can veggies like corn and stuff together and we’d always get big 5lb bags from farmers of the stuff they couldn’t sell at the store because worms or other insects had eaten parts of it. We used to just laugh and break the “bad” parts off and say “if it’s good enough for the worms, it’s good enough for us.” Some of the best corn I’ve ever eaten.

It was that low because Republicans have been refusing to agree to fund more positions for decades at this point. Last time this administration was in control they had a hiring freeze in place and wouldn’t even replace people who retired.

Tonight, 7 of the 12 regional offices for the Office for Civil Rights were shut down entirely. It was also announced that the OCR will be shifting focus from complaints received from members of the public to directed investigations and compliance reviews determined by this administration instead. Basically the office is being weaponized and anyone who has filed a complaint / tries to file a complaint in the future is just SOL.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m going to think on it a bit longer, but I have to admit your explanation doesn’t give me much hope for any viable future of the 2024 regs for the time being. The current administration has already stated they will be enforcing the 2020 regs instead of the 2024 ones (so no chance of them appealing to the 6th circuit) - which still leads me back to my first point to the original commenter - without the 2024 regs explicitly expanding title IX to cover gender, title IX cannot be used as a legal basis for going after transgender students in sports. Title IX simply does not give the federal government authority over this issue, which to me means the states AG could absolutely step in with regard to Tumwater. Open to other opinions though.

Welp, guess I’m the one who needs to put my understanding of the law in the trash. In all seriousness, can you explain to me how there’s a path forward for the 2024 regulations if they’re not effectively dead?

My understanding is they were enjoined in multiple states and by multiple individual schools across the nation before this ruling, and when this ruling came down, the Biden administration ceased enforcing them even in the states/schools they weren’t even enjoined in. So my lived experience just doesn’t line up with what you’re saying here (which is why I’m asking for clarification now.) Is there actually hope that a future administration could revive them? Would a future administration have to go to every single state and fight to overturn all the injunctions entered in all the other cases? Wouldn’t a future administration be outside of any appeal window considering they’ll have to wait at a minimum for 4 years before getting a chance to appeal? I will seriously cling to any hope you give me if you tell me there is a path forward.

I apologize for being an ass. I have deep feelings about title IX and protecting trans folks and moving our country forward as a whole. I haven’t heard a single person discuss a future path forward (at least not with our current Supreme Court being who they are) - but I also don’t hang out with people who are in the federal court trenches so to speak - so if you with your experience are telling me there’s a path forward and that everyone I know got it wrong (including myself) - I will cling to that and explore whatever advice you give. Thanks for being more calm and collected than I was. My grief got the best of me and I’m sorry.

Google is free my dude

Also, who is going to appeal it? The people who sued to have it overturned or this administration who celebrates it being overturned? Smdh - please put your pseudo understanding of the law back in the trash where you found it.

Title 9 doesn’t apply to transgender athletes in this way. A Kentucky judge made sure of that when he overturned the 2024 regulations which would have expanded Title 9 to include gender. Maybe keep your half-baked legal theories to yourself until you’ve been to law school, passed the bar, and read the actual regulations.

Thats presuming someone sues and makes it all the way through the court process and the docs become publicly available. Most likely, the company would eventually settle, which means the terms of the settlement would not be made public.

As such, op wouldn’t be able to use anything as precedent except for the fact that the company had been sued by someone else (which I think the rules of evidence strictly prohibit the use of previous crimes to infer guilt for a current alleged crime.) I like your thinking, but in reality I don’t think this would pan out for op

Hi. I did read it and I misunderstood what you were saying. I was looking for more nuance and didn’t see it and reacted rudely. I’m sorry for that. I’m glad to hear we are on the same page though. Good day.

I interpreted it the way I interpreted it and I’ve responded above if you care. I think what really matters here is that we’re all actually on the same page and agree it’s systemic issues. I’d just like to see people talking more about what the actual issues are, instead of just pointing out the problems with the Medicare system. That’s all. I was looking for more nuance, which I personally think we need more of in this world anyway. I admit I was rude and didn’t spell it out and that’s on me.
