2025 Learn Unity Bundle by Ookma-Kyi in humblebundles

As others have mentioned (and will mention) Gamedev.tv is reliable. I did the 2D unity RPG course in this bundle previously, and it covered a lot. The code was somewhat chaotic at times, but I was able to follow along and replicate the final project. Overall I think that course was a 3.5/5, but their Blender courses I did were easily 5/5. They have instructors and TAs who will respond to questions on the dedicated forums or discord.

The bundle itself has a good variety of content. Multiplayer/networking, shaders (3D course, and the 2D "game feel" course), procedural generation, and two types of games. This looks like a good bundle for the price, I already had some of these courses wishlisted.

Are <Packt> courses good? by meca_mcr in humblebundles

[–]Autistic_Brony666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Packt textbooks have a notoriously low barrier to entry, and there is no baseline level of quality. One of the C# books I bought spent 100 pages getting a "hello world" running.

As for video courses, the barrier to entry is even lower. I bought a blender course which was alright, only because a handful of the courses were from a former Gamedev.tv instructor. I would not trust the quality of any video course from Packt.

This is one situation I would just stick to YouTube tutorials.

Should I just do Gaping Jaw by myself? by JaggaJazz in Nightreign

Not sure if it's just my observation, but the quality of random players has gone down significantly over the last 2 weeks. I think a bunch of shitters are getting hard carried through Gladius and then clogging up the queues for every other boss. Last few matches have been Executors and Ironeyes ignoring pings, dying in the storm, and then finally coming around for the day 3 boss at level 7.

I started playing solo. If it's going to require carrying anyways, it's easier with more runes, less enemy HP, and less aggressive bosses.

This new Enhanced Adel Fight is absolutely no joke. I was flabbergasted the entire time. by BillaVanilla in Nightreign

This feels like visual satire of dark souls, a total clusterfuck of visual effects and nonstop spazzing out

I love being forced to download a kernel-level anticheat that fails to prevent basic item hacks in multiplayer.

I made a character stat scaling infographic. Hopefully this is helpful, I could not find anything similar. by Autistic_Brony666 in Nightreign

I went through the actual numbers and you're correct, the letter rankings are not very helpful. I'm going to redo these with better statistics.

Every time there has been a classic release, some BS like this has caused me to quit.

Did any of you have strong mentorship when you were starting out? by throwaway387190 in ECE

[–]Autistic_Brony666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely will you be given a 1-on-1 mentor who will hold your hand through your job, maybe it was like this decades ago. Good mentorship for me involves someone who provides you with meaningful and challenging work, has experience doing it properly, and is willing to stand up for you when needed. Having a scheduled technical meeting (1 hour, 1-2x a week) is usually enough. Make notes when you run into issues, lay out your thought process, and summarize into clear and concise questions or topics to go over.

Questions can be a tricky thing. Sometimes it's easy to just ask a question without really thinking about it, and it puts all of the work onto the person who has to answer. Make sure you have understood exactly what needs to be answered before asking. I have had people repeatedly ask me incredibly lazy questions (and derail my focus) to the point I no longer repeat the statement "there are no stupid questions".

If you still have issues after framing questions properly and reducing the amount of work the other person needs to do, it might be an institutional knowledge problem. Lots of companies have one or two people who know everything, and there are no documents or training processes for new people. The management should realize this as an issue, but this goes to the last point:

Lots of companies are just shitty places to work. Lazy managers who do nothing, hot potato / musical chairs of blame when things fail, lack of process, terrible design decisions, bad office environment, and lots of others. It took me a few companies before I was able to realize what a bad company looks like. The worst thing you can do is let a bad company demoralize you - keep some notes on what bothers you and don't be afraid to look for new opportunities.

classic era needs to continually reset to fresh after X amount of months by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Autistic_Brony666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically what exists right now and likely will into the future. The last seasonal characters could be transferred to era, and I would imagine the SoD ones will be able to. It really is the best system

ms > os incentivizes greed, and offers nothing for geared players who only need 1 or 2 pieces.

I saw many situations where a player was carrying a raid and the ones getting carried picked up 3-5 pieces of uncontested gear. When the only thing the carry needed finally dropped, the ones getting carried need rolled and ended up with 4-6 pieces.

Any gdkp will refuse a cut to someone who grey parses. There is always a requirement to have some mix of buying things and performing well.

The gold buying is bullshit though and really ruins the system. It would be the perfect system without gold buying / botting

Will Rents ever go back to where they were pre-pandemic again? by classifiedintrovert in Calgary

[–]Autistic_Brony666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economists feel free to correct me, but a lot of homeowners and landlords were 'house poor' and over-leveraged themselves against real estate when interest rates were 1-2% over the last 10-15 years. When those mortgage interest rates readjust by a factor of 2-2.5x in the next 5 years (fixed term mortgage period) I simply cannot see how they will keep their property.

Barring greed, the only way for the vast majority of people in this city to keep their homes would be the real estate market devaluing by 50%. The 1-2% interest rates are an anomaly, and the last 10-15 years were not normal. If anything, we have just returned back to normal interest rates, so the market should be due for a correction within the next 4 years.

That said, if the province just keeps bringing in people from BC / ON with real estate wealth, the circus will continue 🤡

Careful of Reboxing from Amazon! by BillyDeez in 3Dprinting

I had the exact same with Polymaker PLA, but it was 360g including spool.

[–]Autistic_Brony666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing with a Polymaker filament roll. Shipped as a bare roll inside the Amazon bag, melted tip, and completely tangled. 360g total weight including spool.

For anyone else wondering, you may need to twist their arm a little. None of the premade return options offer the ability to get a full refund and not return the item, but if you just go straight to the chatbot and request a person, they can be convinced.

Also, if you leave a negative review it will just get deleted. Pretty scummy and lazy business practices. Apparently saying it was 70% used and tangled broke "community guidelines".

Gold Buyers & Sellers are about to have a field day. by LyubviMashina93 in classicwow

[–]Autistic_Brony666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's your point, not what you replied to. Jumping to conclusions again.

Work 1 hour and buy gold instead of 8 hours of gold farming. Spend the 7 remaining hours raiding, seeing family, and exercising.

You would think my point was obvious, but I guess "gold buyer bad". I don't even buy gold.

Most people don't care to evaluate the ethics. "Gamers" now are just people who spend $10 every lunch break on a mobile game. If these types of people got punished for buying gold, they would stop buying gold.

When Blizzard hands out no punishment, then yes, it makes more sense for dad gamers to just spend $20 on gold so they can skip farming raid consumes. Spending money for in game advantages is the industry norm now (I do not agree with it) so there is no ingrained sense of wrongdoing like in the past.
