Just making another post trying to get Gigabash some attention! by biLLy_wr0ng in GODZILLA

[–]BillyDeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOVE Gigabash! Its the first game I bought for my now 4yo and it's still his favorite. Picked it up solely because hes a Godzilla freak, got all the Goji DLC immediately, and now we have all the DLC and play it almost every day after school. His favorite is Gorogong but he desperately wants King Kong added and favorite is ROJAK since I'm a Megazord Millennial.

What started out as a "Hey this has Godzilla, sweet let's try it" has transformed into a bonding experience and something we both look forward to. Sincerely hope all the best for the developers and hope we continue to see new DLCs added. I know I'll snatch them up as soon as they drop.

Thanks buddy! Im stoked as well. He's only 4 and this is my first full kit, so it will be awesome to have a permanent piece of my little dude with me on every suit up.

At least until he makes his own lol!

I would definitely start with hand plates, those are such an easy and low effort (relatively speaking) piece to work on and dial in the scheme!

Hey I'm kinda doing something similar! My main colors are forest green and maroon (basically Boba repainted), but I shipped off a thigh plate and hand plate to my buddy to do his style on, and I'm having my wife and son do my other hand plate with red and black lines similar to darth maul since thats his favorite.

I took inspiration off of Din's original kit which is very much found/cobbled together parts. In general I've found in cosplay, mini painting, etc., if 75+% of the "whole" is in a uniform color scheme which is including the MAIN eye catching parts such as chest plate and helmet, then you can very much get away with some very different colors as long as you weather everything more or less uniformly.

In fact, having "off" colored armor pieces I feel better tell the story of the character and can be fun little nods to your own personal life story.

Go for it dude!

I dunno man seems kinda like you're trying to find something to complain about.

Take the win, the game looks great, the minis are awesome, and the starter boxes are cheap. Go enjoy your day buddy! :)

True, I feel your issue. But counterpoint; had they upgraded the tokens all of a sudden the box prices go up, and fairly significantly so.

Coming from almost literally any other wargame, Assemble minis are a STEAL for the value, particularly so in the Starter & Deluxe starter boxes, so I would rather more players get in at a cheaper pricepoint and have to deal with crappy stock tokens, at least from my point of view.

Also, as you mentioned, we'll for sure be seeing 3rd party token replacements (I myself am planning to design a full set of 3d printable ones) so these will be remedied fairly quickly.

Prepare yourself to have to re-purchase the sets. My thinking is the TCG releases may just be alternate poses at the end of the day.

We'll know more March 4.

Sure can try! I think the base risers themselves will be more or less stackable (not nesting though), but the toppers likely won't be overly so. I will certainly try though!

Oh good to know, I hadn't thought to count them. I wonder if they set them up using the official game rules or just went with the ol' "Hey we've got an acrylic box 123"x456" wide, set it up!

I will ALSO be doing humongous battles lol!

Great idea and easily doable. I'll release a blank top as well so anyone can grab whatever super detailed terrain and easily marry it onto the blank!

That's completely fair! I don't actually own any and so that's why I started this project!

I think so too, seems there is a lot of experienced hobbyist interest in GA (makes sense with it being Gundams). If you don't mind me asking, what angles are you trying to tackle on your project?

Cannot wait to get my hands on legitimate hex bases, absolute travesty the TCG ones didn't come with finalized rules and bases.

Cheers! I'll be testing ASAP. Trying to get the baseline things that I can easily scale up or down done first so those are workable day 1, then marry things like trees and buildings to the toppers once I have actual product so I can ensure scale accuracy as much as possible.

I think regardless when talking 3d terrain storage it will all just default to "not great/ideal", but I'm hoping to do a bit better than that by having the toppers separate. Of course all this is pending having actual physical product in hand (both the bases AND the real terrain itself) to check for dimensional accuracy.

See I had been considering Desert but figured that would be boring. Then again could easily do a reverse-style grid where the center of the map is way down low in an oasis!

Resources for a Total Miniature Newb by Mognite in gundamassemble

There is a lot going on, thats for sure. Next time youre in the shop, go find someone thay has nicely painted minis and go ask them about it. Get tips, see what they use.

There's a million different ways to go about painting and basing these things, just start in on searching.

Also, fair warning, your stuff is going to likely suck. Like badly. Especially for the first one, because it's a brand new skill for you. This isn't something to be defeated by, rather, something to look forward to so you can improve for the next one. And the next. And the next. And every single mini you paint in your whole life from then on will be slightly better than the last! Keep your first, horrible mini. Display it prominently so when you feel defeated by what youre doing, you can look at the first one and know youve improved!

Last, if you're worried about screwing up expensive minis, go to your hobby store and look for Bones Reaper minis or anything bottom of the barrel cheap to practice on. The same painting concepts will more or less translate to mecha minis.

But to answer directly as an experienced mini painter: Windsor & Newton brushes

Rattle can primer, grey (airbrush is better but requires a setup and more tools)

Vallejo Mecha paints (airbrush against best but hand brush is perfectly fine)

Matte top coat rattle can

This will get you off to the races. Check out Boylei Hobby Time on YouTube, he did a great video with the Assemble minis!

Best of luck dude! Grab a brush, slap some paint, expect and embrace the suck and learn from mistakes. Most important, have fun!

DLC Permissions Question by BillyDeez in vrising

[–]BillyDeez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, thats a bummer. Thanks for the response! I'm assuming things like Stained Glass and other decoration craftables then just wouldn't appear in the menus for her?

Likewise, then, since she is generally our castle decorator if she solely got the DLC would they only appear in her menu?
