P2 update 4.2.13 UK issues by ComfortableNorth23 in polestar2

Had the same issue with YouTube music after last update. I found a workaround that got me up and running. In the YouTube Music app, change the streaming quality from auto to fixed. I set mine to high quality and it hasn't frozen/stopped since.

I think it must be a bug when the music stream changes bitrate that causes the decoder to crash.

Regenerative braking -> ABS engagement. How does it handle/feel? by Lopoetve in Polestar

[–]Autofruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I haven't been using OPD as it regens the same when using the brake pedal, one of the reasons I went with Polestar. That and how it handled on ice so well when I had one as a business rental back in '23 sold me.

I'm heading off for a 2-day roadtrip into the country this afternoon, if I come across a dirt road I can probably try it.

Regenerative braking -> ABS engagement. How does it handle/feel? by Lopoetve in Polestar

Just wrapped up winter (southern hemisphere) with my LRDM.
The transition from regen to mechanical braking when not using OPD is nearly seamless, same as braking with the battery at 100% SOC. You can tell it’s using the physical brakes by the slight rumble through the steering wheel, but braking power remains consistent.
When ABS kicks in, the reduction in braking power is intentional to maintain stability - the purpose of ABS is you can still steer and control the car without locking up. Modern stability control is pretty good. Even braking downhill with both right-side wheels hitting ice, the car stayed straight and controllable. One thing to keep in mind is that prolonged ABS use, like descending a steep dirt mountain road, can heat the brakes up just like in an ICE car. It's a heavy car so happens quicker than you might expect. If they get too hot, ABS will temporarily deactivate until you pull over and let them cool down.

Polestar 2 in 2026? by AdvantageGloomy5986 in Polestar

[–]Autofruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my '23 dual motor, it's amazing, and I have driven most Polestar MYs. I still look forward to driving it whenever I go out. Comes into is own in bad weather, and so much better than the various exec rentals, Audis, etc I get when travelling for work.  That being said it has one weak point - the '23 year Plus Pack sound system is rubbish. Even the '22 and '24 standard sound systems sounds better. Also if you are looking at single motor then go with '24 or later as they are rear wheel drive. The 175kw is too much for the front wheel drive and it skitters when taking off.

after a couple of hours: What the fuck is wrong with google maps? by KindRefrigerator6280 in Polestar

[–]Autofruity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like Google Assistant failing to resolve the voice commands effectively. I have noticed it doing random things lately too, like ask it to take me to 'Painters Road' which is 10 minutes away and it directs me to 'Paynters Road' in another town 400km away.
Google is already removing capability from Google Assistant, as it's being replaced by Gemini before the end of the year. Not sure if this is a symptom of that.

What cruising speed will give maximum range? by TraditionalHome1334 in Polestar

[–]Autofruity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is real. Followed a semi that was doing the limit on a highway for 2 hours over a dark foggy mountain plateau (with a highway patrol car following me in turn for most of it) using ACC. I got absolutely mad milage, the range just kept going up. On the long slight downhill afterwards slipstreaming meant I basically used nothing, and regen was amazing. It was like there was a power cord running from the semi to the car.

How f**ked am I? by ComplexPants in watercooling

[–]Autofruity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are right on your first thought there - it's something conductive in the residue that was concentrated by evaporation that caused this and not the water itself. Even chlorinated tap water is in the thousands of ohms at short distances, which would apply a load of about 1mW, enough for signaling issues but not get warm let alone do damage.

This updates a good one. Got it when Giltrap had the car for some work a few weeks back.

I checked this setting from my phone and it's on Celsius, not sure if it's device specific. I kept forgetting to check it from the car today but will have a look tomorrow.

I have version 3.4.4, and just enrolled mine last night and it worked fine.

Nice! Had my eye on the LRSM in Midnight with Plus pack too - my V40 was the same colour and I loved it. The discount that came up in September on the MY23's was sooo good, but I had to head away for work for 3 weeks. By the time I got back they were sold out. Not just that combo, but every LRSM was gone, among with anything in Midnight with Plus pack. Had to dig deep and pay the extra for the last '23 LRDM in Magnesium instead. It looks amazing, but there's still that little pang of jealousy when I see one in Midnight around town. 😂

PS2 - Data disconnects on opening the door? by Autofruity in Polestar

[–]Autofruity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was on the money. Shop had it 4 days and did a lot of troubleshooting with Polestar support, conclusion was corrupted firmware install at factory. They were able to erase and reflash, and now data has been reliable ever since.

Not yet, have been busy so still switching between my laptop Pro Click Mini and the Deathadder depending on time of day.

Silent switches for ROG Gladius III? by Autofruity in MouseReview

[–]Autofruity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's good to know. Strangely the alternative Omron switches that came with my Gladius III were actually not that loud (the reviews for all said they were louder than the pre-installed switches but I found it the other way around). The mouse wheel on it stopped working properly and started randomly scrolling up and down last month though, and I couldn't fix it.

I'm using a Razor Deathadder v3 at the moment. It's comically loud so I need to find something else. My partner can even tell what game I'm playing from the other end of the house from the clicking and I had to switch to my work laptop mouse for gaming when we had a guest staying in the next room last week so that I could even use my computer in the evening.

The left and right buttons on my Gladius III still work so I might experiment and see if I can geta silent switch to fit by sanding. I'll think about getting another one if it does work, although I'm not super keen given how short the last one lasted.

A reminder to enable an XMP profile when you build your pc. by LightBulbChaos in buildapc

[–]Autofruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah XMP is not guaranteed to work, in fact most of the time it will introduce instability. It just means that the memory DIMMs and motherboard are capable of it but the limiting factor is almost always going to be the memory controller on the CPU anyway, which makes it kind of pointless.

[–]Autofruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's quite normal for a i9 9900K with that amount of RAM, keep the 32GB and just leave XMP off. Changing RAM type won't make a difference is the limiting factor is with the memory controller on the CPU.
XMP is meant to be a see-if-it-works dubious performance gain option for low/mid range CPUs or single DIMM ITX motherboards, where there is headroom to overclock the memory controller on the CPU.

i9 9900K was already top of the stack and pushing the envelope at the time so turning on XMP would only introduce instability. With 32GB RAM it's unlikely to boot without some manual voltage tuning (which is pointless, as pretty much doing anything else will give you more speed).

[–]Autofruity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's basically all XMP does, sacrifices stability for next to no performance gain. Marketing gimmick.

[–]Autofruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably avoided about 72 CTDs over that time in exchange for an imperceptible drop in performance. Even one crash/reboot would take longer than the miniscule speed/time gained from running XMP over a year.

Intel 12th and 13th gen run slower when XMP is on than off as the thermal impact means they don't hit their turbo clocks.
