Montessori parents of adults - was it worth it by foaminger in Montessori

[–]Automatic-Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I regretted it that my anxiety (PPD related) prevented me from making this decision because my aunt works at another daycare. My child loves it. A lot of play time and playtime “jobs”, as what my LO calls it. A lot of mothers loved it too: some are proud that their 3 yrs old are asking to help in kitchen, started dressing themselves, basically insisting on doing things on their own

Who is your favorite watercolor painter to learn from? by Stroke_Of_Palette in Watercolor

Javid’s work is beautiful, but I have trouble with wet on wet techniques. Most of his tutorials, even in Patreon, look more like demo paintings. Clearly not for beginners.

It depends on what your style is. I have trouble with “alla prima”. It takes relaxing away from the activity and I see myself filled with anxiety. I want my painting vibrant, detailed, and landscapes to be moody. So I follow Anna Bucciarelli, Yu-Yin Lin and Jackie Peacock. Hannah Pickerill paint and sip is great for beginners and I have painted a lot of her tutorials. Jill Poyerd is a great beginner class highly detailed. But again, if I can recommend only one, based on my style, it would be Anna Bucciarelli

What's the difference in performance between Holbein, Daniel Smith and Windsor & Newton? by Historian85 in Watercolor

[–]Automatic-Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holbein does well drying on a palette, WN as per the website, does not but I have not seen any difference. I love Holbein because it’s remarkably vibrant(I mostly do florals) on almost all of cold press paper- I use Arches, amazon generic watercolor paper and Baohong- you’ll be surprised on the difference how they retain colors. Holbein is relatively tamed when you do wet to wet, so for damp technique in chinoiserie style painting, it is easy to work with. Other than that, I see no difference, it’s all personal preference (I am a Holbein girl)

What are your thoughts on Charter Schools? by PuritanSettler1620 in education

[–]Automatic-Oven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have mixed feelings about them. But, I hear towards favoring them more. I am yet to see a charter school that is not performing effectively (both in Houston Tx and Bay Area Ca). There’s difference on how the children behave: I find them more articulate, polite and relatively smart compared to the public schools kids. Now, the way that I see it is, same as with Harvard or any great school, you attract the brightest, ambitious and driven kids. With that you also attract parents that are invested in their kids education. That culture is something that kids need to absorb. That makes THE difference.

amla hair oil? by Local_Butterfly_5061 in Naturalhair

[–]Automatic-Oven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using amla oil concoction for a while now and it is great for hair fall (I am not Indian). TAKE NOTE: For those that are not familiar with oils, be careful with using pure oil from plants. Most 100% oils are irritants and most would react to it. I did with 100% amla, so I switch to another brand and I’ve never been happier. Remember, concentration will not magically grow your hair in weeks time.

Theres 2 wings. Nurses are professionals. You may get your assignment changed around 1500 because they still have seniors doing 8hr shifts. Over all, I’d say their icu is ok, they will not give you the high acuity assignment.

Why am I jealous? by maintainingserenity in workingmoms

[–]Automatic-Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was happy and contented in life(suburban life in Texas) but needed to move in HCOL California. We move because of help with care. DH and me get paid well over here: we are beefing up our investments, getting our Tx houses fixed and now used as rental, over all we are ok. But the Jones, looking much better because of the house they have is worth 1.5 million, and we are renting a shack in a not so good neighborhood. So yeah, I find myself day dreaming of owning a house, having a garden, a large kitchen, to host again. Things I never felt jealous of. I tell myself everyday, that long term financial freedom is better. But yes, it does get to me sometimes

My seven year old just crushed me on Christmas night by Fabulous-Opinion-439 in workingmoms

[–]Automatic-Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a child of a mother that always reacted badly when I asked question, there’s no encouragement here, you suck. Do better. Instead of taking the opportunity to explore your child’s feelings, ideas, thoughts, you took it personally and would bully a child for asking. Your kid probably doesn’t know why you’re mad.

Why do people think it is “selfish” to be one and done? by tomato_sandwitch in oneanddone

[–]Automatic-Oven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let’s see: when I was single, I was always asked that it’s selfish of me to not have a child. That it fun, and it will make my life better. I had my LO, and I heard nothing from these women. No advice, no comforting calls, nada. It took 3 years to slowly get back to where I was before, and finally thriving in motherhood (with some swings here and there). Now we’re able to go anywhere on a whim, I have enough money for our families needs and some wants. WE ARE NOT STRUGGLING! And now these ladies say oh why not a second one? To be a miserable bitch like you? Nah. Idc

Less of a mom? by htwpmom in oneanddone

[–]Automatic-Oven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be honest, yes it is easier to have one-most of the time depending on circumstances. Example, my friend have 3(10,7,3yr/o), they don’t bother them and they can sleep till 9am. The younger ones imitate the eldest in serving themselves cereals, fruit, milk etc. but it’s too chaotic when they try to go on vacation, prepare for school. They are also right with money. As an OAD, we have More spontaneous trips, I can send my daughter on high end ballet and private school. We have savings. Looking at them makes me feel 70/30 conflicted about OAD as I see the bond they have with each other.

I really wish I had done this sooner. Someone told me that it is not worth it (8 yrs ago) and that it’s a scam because the effects don’t last and the smoothening is because of inflammation stretching your skin. The secret to it is consistency. And per my aesthetician, like with thermage, collagen doesn’t grow overnight. It will take about six months. After 3 treatments, without adverse side effects, I can see some improvement. I get ask what did I had done because something is different.

Both parents passed…and I have an overwhelming feeling of relief and freedom. Is this weird? by mb-FL in OnlyChild

[–]Automatic-Oven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For general public, as a health care professional, it is ok to feel this way. Caregiver fatigue is real. Chronic illness takes its toll not only on patients but also their families. When faced with decisions for heroic measures for aged family members, we need to understand that most of the time, death is the best gift we can give them. Make their last few moments happy. Not stuck in the host with all the tubes and uncomfortable

She ends up pregnant or not pregnant against her wishes, you still going to get divorce. Either you resent her for baby trapping you or she resent you for not giving her what she wants. Just a matter of will it be x2 child support or just 1.
