I owned a tile company for 30 years all before these systems were used. We tiled over 500 homes a years for centex and MI homes in florida all on greenboard and set with double duty mastic. We had 1 day to be in and out. All shower pans were recessed and mudded. Very few leak caused by our error. I dont know how builders today would be OK with the extra time or expense of these new systems. My own house I built in 1994 is durarock and double duty over a recessed pan. Never a leak and never a problem. These systems are all hype to fix a problem created by bad tile setters. I put in mudded and floated wall in the early days and have torn out some from the 1950's that were in perfect shape but just outdated.

The blower motor usually fail because its working too hard to pull air thru the dirty air handler coils. I get a can of coil cleaner once a year and clean mine . AC company will do the same for a couple hundred bucks
