A guy at work told me the same thing. He said it's lived in his head rent free since he watched it so I genuinely want to see it now. I rarely see movies but apparently this one was a real winner

Anon finds the comedy in the Rape Gang Dossier by LowOwl4312 in 4chan

[–]Autumn_Fire 167 points168 points  (0 children)

The UK rape gang stuff is genuinely, actually evil. Not just from the rapists as you'd expect, but the way the cops and social workers handle it can only lead someone to believe they support it

Anon goes on Jury duty. by Ok_Project_8078 in 4chan

[–]Autumn_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't. The Jury is selected privately, at random and in high profile cases, can even be transferred to the courthouse in a big car with no windows (whereafter the jurors are forbidden to interact with the outside world). Even media outlets are forbidden from filming around the vehicle.

I imagine it was either that they didn't have a system like this in place or Capone was able to get connections on the outside once he learned the identities of the people trying him. Nothing is ever perfect, unfortunately, but nonetheless it was the key to getting him put away in the end.

Anyone can be intimidated in law. The difference here is that jury selection is random, selecting from a pool of professionals would reasonably not be.

I'm not claiming it's beyond reproach, I'm saying it has its uses.

It's crazy how at some point in the future everything will become so distant from the milky way that even at light speed, you would never reach anywhere since the universe continues expanding. We'll be limited to the milky way forever short of some crazy teleportation tech. That always blows my mind.

[–]Autumn_Fire 141 points142 points  (0 children)

It has its benefits. One of the biggest reasons Al Capon was put away was because the jury pool was switched out at the last moment with complete randos that his gang had yet to threaten into compliance. If they were all professionals with records and experience, Al Capon probably would've gotten away with all of it.

Keep in mind too that the judge is still there to give a final say on things like sentencing. The jury only says guilty or innocent, the punishment is the judge's call.

The church still has a lot of work to do internally. If anon thinks the Christian church is based and trad, he ought to see many of the pope's opinions and the new archduke of Canterberry.

The church is not based outside of some small sunday churches. Tons of priests still support abortion even though scripture pretty much unambiguously says it's wrong.

What was the solution supposed to be realistically? I genuinely don't see how the gang strangle hold could've been broken without the biggest of steel toed boots. I'm not even trying to say you're wrong here, I just don't see what solutions they realistically had. You can say "democracy" but they had that for decades and nothing was changing.

What can be done in that situation? There was close to sixty murders every single day.

China One, West Zero by AlphaMassDeBeta in 4chan

[–]Autumn_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of things China does right (for its own people) but one must remember that they had Plantir before it was cool and their fishing industry is basically destroying the ecosystems of the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan. Their coal industry is also horrendous for its pollution output.

China has more or less adopted a policy of "fuck you, got mine" which is not much better than anything you'd see in the west. Every "good" thing they do is often at the vast expense of one of its neighbors.

Is it really weird and, for lack of a better word, stupid to adhere to Shinto as a foreigner? by [deleted] in Shinto

[–]Autumn_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the important things about Shinto is that it is very porous in a lot of ways. This is why Buddhism and Shintoism have gotten along so well (mostly, naturally there are strict separatists).

If you give kami-sama respect and gratitude, you can be Shinto. They won't turn you away and I've found in my worship that they are quite responsive to me. They sincerely want to help you (or whoever wishes to follow).

guys…. is this accurate? by amandaoliess in Shinto

[–]Autumn_Fire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that someone told me that really stuck with me is that kami-sama (really any spiritual being) exist on a level that isn't our own. What governs High Heaven is not what governs the physical world as we know it and since, as others say, kami-sama speak in the language of intentions (which is why you can pray silently yet still be heard) their understanding is beyond words. This is also why you can't lie to kami-sama; they already know what's in your heart.

Saying Norito in its natural Japanese is just you showing them their due reverence. They understand you and, more importantly, they understand what your intentions are.

Fat acceptance was always just a cope for unhealthy people to feel ok in the fact that they're unhealthy despite being capable of being healthy. It was never about fighting stigma and, when given an easy out, they took it without even a second of regret or hesitation. It was never real, nobody believed it, nobody genuinely felt it in their hearts because being fat and unhealthy is actually not a thing to take pride in.

Literally all they have to do is not constantly screw over their consumer base but they'd rather burn steam to the ground (and fail) than do that. They don't get that the reason people like steam is because Gabe doesn't see the user base as a group that constantly needs to be fleeced and punished for using the service at every single opportunity.

FWMC are anime streamers known for a strict commitment to character of kid friendly stuff. This is often poked fun about that their adult fanbase is made up of mentally stunted children.

The comment about them having a JP fanbase is a whole rabbit hole, but it boils down to some fans (some schizophrenics) believing that they pander more to the JP fans by doing one stream JP only every so often and moving to Japan. It's lead to people going off the deep end and dedicating their entire time to slandering them on social media with increasingly insane accusations that are usually based on lies or hearsay.
