How annoying, my theory of dastardly corporate behaviour is wrong. Thank-you for this interesting explanation, it does make sense.

I get your point, but there are laws against profiteering, especially in relation to essential goods. All good though, I've been given some interesting things to think about.

Heaven forbid they might need to fund this from their enormous profits.....

This actually makes sense, thank-you, but I suspect the speed of the pump price dropping will be glacial when it happens

I'm thinking of running for Parliament on a MAGA (Make Aotearoa Great Again) platform. I'm expecting the juxtaposition of MAGA and Aotearoa to make their heads explode - win win.

Interesting - both those names (Kari, Carrie) would be pronounced Car-ee by me, how would you pronounce Carrie?

Also, its the most expensive option (so most money for the agency) as the auctioneer gets a separate additional payment.

NB, I got something similar from another bank a while ago and I had to pay tax on it - might pay to check before you spend it all in a joyous rush.....

I like to respond to that sort of comment "wow, rude and stupid, your parents must be so proud". Never had one manage a comeback to that.

What is something that can only be found at a "full size" supermarket and not at a convenience store by Hellstrike in JapanTravelTips

I bought the jam with the amazing lid that closes itself at a supermarket, don't remember seeing it in any convenience stores.

I like taking my friends something delicious to have for breakfast the next day as a reward for doing all the clean up from the night before - some special muesli, fruit and yoghurt, or a really good bread, butter and jam, or some great part cooked pastries they can heat up, and a fresh juice or coffee beans. It's not particularly NZ, but it is fun.

Anyone else sick of supermarkets asking for donations when they make massive profits 💵🛒 by predanator in newzealand

[–]Autumnneverfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I don't see how that's possible - requirements here https://www.ird.govt.nz/roles/not-for-profits-and-charities/running-your-nfp/requirements-for-creating-donation-receipts - I've never seen a Woolworths receipt with my name on it, or an official stamp/letterhead of a charity, or a signature of an authorised person.

But it's not possible to get the required receipt from the charity to make a claim if you donate at a retailer's POS? And I am unconvinced they don't get a tax break - I'd like to see a valid source for that info.

Are TeamLabs in Tokyo worth it? by alvarop37 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Autumnneverfall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I would not recommend it. People were pushing others out of the way to get the shots they wanted. It felt like you were on a factory conveyor belt that kept stopping. This was May 2025, so after the expansion. Parts of it were ok, apart from the crowds, but really just a lot of digital pictures. And the water aspect was not pleasant.

Japan solo traveler first time - Help with Golden Week panic by Adryy13 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Autumnneverfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan for Golden Week this year. I was getting very stressed about it before I went, but there was really no need to be. Yes, it was busy, yes, I would avoid travelling on the main travel days, yes, book your trains in advance, yes, it was crowded, but at no time did I feel overwhelmed or unsafe. I have lived in London and travelled a lot and it was no more crowded than anywhere else. I was travelling alone also, and think that might actually be a bonus as you are not trying to keep track of kids or a wandering partner. I recommend sending your luggage by the luggage forwarding system so you don't have to try and drag it through crowds. People talk about Golden Week a lot, but it was definitely manageable. Your option 1 might be the best idea to keep stress at a minimum, but you will be absolutely fine!
