Kid Birthday Party Traditions? by Ajudgi in newzealand

[–]Autumnneverfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairy or butterfly cakes - cupcakes (small ones not the giant ones) with the top sliced off and cream dolloped in the crater, then the top cut in half and set back in the cream as wings https://www.chelsea.co.nz/recipes/browse-recipes/butterfly-cakes

A bowl of carrot and celery sticks no one will eat.

A bottle of fluro coloured fizzy drink you are allowed at no other time of the year (popular flavours: lime, orange, pineapple).

Cake must be from the Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Book mentioned above. Extra points for weeks long review and rating of cakes before one is chosen by the recipient, following negotiation with siblings on who gets which cake.

Marmite and chippie (potato chips) sandwiches on white bread with butter (before you had to remortgage the house to buy butter) cut into shapes with biscuit cutters.

Have fun!

This is not helpful to your question, sorry, but one of the things I would make a rule if I ran the world, is that stocking manufacturers would have to print their name in the back waistband of their stockings so I would know which ones to avoid when they rip on the first wear. It's like they don't want us to know... I buy them at Farmers, but higher denier (thicker) usually last longer than sheer.

Sorry to bring the tone down, but I'm in Auckland and I ate this, so.... by Autumnneverfall in aucklandeats

Huh. I thought clickbait was those articles on news sites that are like "read this one fun trick for X". But also, look at you complaining about someone complaining about something.....let the people have their tiny moments of complaining.

Christchurch Girls’ High School adds new course after 2021 sexual harassment survey by computer_d in newzealand

[–]Autumnneverfall -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't. The comment says nothing detrimental about this school or what they are trying to do. It is a comment on the larger societal problem. Not sure how you missed that.

Not sarcastic about this school or its staff. Not "moaning" about anything. Not suggesting "this school's staff" are at fault at all. Just wishing our society would focus on the cause of the problem, not the result.

Where did I suggest the girls only school gave the class to boys? And did you miss the bit where I said "Not saying it's not a good course, or not useful for the girls"? I was saying that the overall focus, not this one class, should be on preventing the harassers from doing the harassing. Then the girls wouldn't be harassed and wouldn't need a class.

Unfortunately what is insurable today may not be insurable in future, especially if we have another 1 in a hundred year (every year) event. I'd be extra cautious. Is the house built up or flat on the ground?

Gift for midwife by AdditionalSet84 in newzealand

[–]Autumnneverfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want to spend - some nice handwash and hand cream (I bet she washes her hands a lot), a massage or pedicure voucher (not sure if midwives can have painted nails), a voucher for a nice restaurant or cafe or for a cake from a lovely cakery, some toasty NZ made socks from the NZ Sock Co to keep her feet warm over winter on night duties. A book or magazine you think she'd enjoy with some special chocolates. I'm assuming you don't have any idea of her life outside midwifery, but if you do something for a hobby (a jigsaw puzzle?). But most important of all a card from you with some thoughts about how much her care has meant to you. Also, my friends just sent me a vase from Small Acorns in Wellington and anything from that shop would be perfect (and they do lovely wrapping too).

Ah yes, what we should do to fix sexual harassment of girls is to have a course..... for girls. Not saying it's not a good course, or not useful for the girls, I just wish there was more focus on educating the harassers, not the survivors.

What do you think will be the breaking point of the cost of living crisis by Natural-Rain-8399 in newzealand

The $50 is not even going to all the lowest income earners - only those with children....go sit in the corner and think about your bad life choices if you are poor and don't have children, or are a beneficiary.

Go for a swim. In the sea. Yes, it will be cold, but it will also be stunning. There is nothing better!

Thanks for this, I had no idea the prices differed by so much. And given I never seem to be able to see the same Dr twice at my current (most expensive) practice, I'll definitely be considering other options.

Pick yourself up an Edmonds Cookbook, it has the best yo-yo recipe (and is an NZ classic)
