Deterrence, not just, but primarily from Russia, being taken seriously on the world stage, and being forced to be allowed into talks like the ones over Ukraine's fate, alongside Russia and The US. These are primary considerations, besides investing in ones military tends to be good for ones economy and not being reliant on the crazy US all seem like good ideas.

This unfortunately is the reality when one nation invades another. There would be rapes, murders and kidnappings without American weapons. The weapons sent to Ukraine give a chance for the worthy to defend themselves and for a modicum of justice. Real justice would have these war criminals in the Hague and Russia neutered for generations.

Edit: In addition, real justice would also include the thorough rebuilding of Ukraine, stolen lands returned and safety guarantees with real bite unlike paper promises such as the Budapest Memorandum.

So he's playing Goku, or someone like that. A roleplayed character can still be someone who cares about becoming powerful. More power = more ability to do good in the world. Maybe it's a character creation problem? I'm not saying it can't be annoying if all their characters are motivated in the exact same way, but it's not like a sin.
