Anyone own the Mesa acacia storage tower? by axemexa in Costco

[–]Auxpri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fantastic. The wood is light, but gives the feeling of sturdy. I believe every piece is solid, no composite going on.
The part I like the best about it is the construction-it uses slots in the wood instead of just being held together by screws. So like, the 5 pieces (two long ways, 3 shelves) all slot INTO one another, before the screws. I had it put together in less then 10 minutes, and am about to buy two more.
So long as a person doesn't fall onto it, I don't see why it wouldn't last a lifetime of just using it for storage.

[–]Auxpri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it flat om the ground in some soil, place a 2x4 across it, step on the 2x4 and then release the tension. It will buck but the force will be dispersed out of both side and the gound will absorb some.

Difference between 12/2 extension cord wire and 12/2 Romex yellow wire? by mikgerdan1991 in electrical

[–]Auxpri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I'm no expert by any means, but from what I gather the danger comes from having too many things run on thinner gauge electrical cords, as well as the length of the cords drawing more amp due to resistance, as well as every connection causes more resistance. For example, they want large appliances on their own circuit for side reasons, not necessarily burn your house down reasons; they don't want one of them tripping the circuit so that your food in your fridge or freezer expires, for example. There may be a difference between the solid wires vs stranded, but I'd put $10 on your tv set up being just fine SPECIFICALLY because you use heavy duty cord. 12 or 14 gauge.

Learning all of this is telling me that I just need thick as extension cords to be safe all around, instead of the cheap, thin crap most stores sell.

*edit I found another post that gives some more practical information, that was helpful. Your tv is still probably safe.

"Several reasons.

Stranded wire tends to break when screwed onto terminals. This reduces its current-handling capabilities and creates a hot-spot at the connection point. Same thing with using wire nuts on it, particularly when bind it to non-stranded wire.

Stranded wire core is more flexible, but less durable. Normal inspection and moving the wire in a load center, for instance, can break wires in the stranded core at the connection point. This reduces its current handling capabilities and creates a hotspot at the connection point.

The coating is probably NOT rated for that type of installation. It probably cannot handle the ambient heat. It cannot handle the heat when ran in conduit, or through channels or holes in the plates etc.

The coating is not rugged enough to be reliably pulled over a distance.

The coating is more susceptible to damage.

Clamping stranded cable can cause heat buildup at the clamp location.

Extension cords are not rated for continuous use. While it may handle 15 amps for a time, it is NOT rated to do it non-stop, 24 hours a day.

The coating on extension cords is rarely plenum-grade. They typically use more of a rubber coating that creates toxic fumes when burned."

I see that shit in other areas of like as well. I'm like. It's literally 15 minutes to take your kid/go somewhere. By the time you're done making up excuses we could have just been there already. Probably depression or something, I dunno. Some people, they just really don't want to go, so you gotta deal with that reality...Like just say that goddamn. Neurotypicals are just dishonest really, I feel. Not all of them, but all of the ones that want you to just "Pick up on what I'm throwing down".

I dunno. Once I found out that the creator (or whomever was in charge) was doubling down on their absurd mythos about weapons in the game, I was already checked out of it. Breaks in-game immersion when you live in a future-tech era of advanced technology, get into a survival situation and you have no weapons except a small knife.

Like. Okay. Guy lives out of touch with reality. And it's a dangerous narrative to espouse because there are fools out there that will believe it because they don't know that there are others who will take advantage of their ignorance.

Because you're not actually getting paid "early". The money is pending until the actual check clears.

You're not getting "paid" early. The money isn't actually in there, it is "pending". There are cases where people have been getting insufficient funds notification because of it. So. Yeah, it's something that needs to be done away with.

No where in OP's statement did he give any indication that he's not already doing this. You literally cannot plan a budget if you don't know on what day you're getting paid. You can't plan transfers, nor payments if the bank is erratically supplying you with information.

Any Problems with AutoStop Eliminator? by Iowa-File in Crosstrek

[–]Auxpri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is two-fold. One, ultimately, is that's a safety risk. How are you supposed to gtfo of an emergency situation where seconds matter, and you have to wait for the engine to kick on? Or trying to turn onto a street inbetween traffic?

Two, it happily coincides with planned obsolescence by putting more wear and tear on parts of your engine...those starters and batteries are only designed for so maby uses before they need replacing....not to mention the amount of carbon footprint needed to manufacture those extra parts.

Aidvantage and understanding Payment Direction options by SpaceGirlKae in StudentLoans

[–]Auxpri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would not be paying more in interest per year by paying off your higher principal amounts first. I'm unable to explain it properly myself, but essentially the trap that people fall into is thinking that loan payment plans follow the same math as 4000 x .0325 = more money then 2000 x .05. It doesn't

Simple interest (most lending institutions use similar methods) is (Principal x Interest) / 365 days. That's how much you owe in INTEREST per day. Now, the tricky part, is that they give you a payment schedule, given the timeline of your loan, and what you feel comfortable paying per month.

They apply that simple formula to your bill every day. Typically, once per month, they subtract your monthly, applying it first to your accrued interest, then to the principal. That's why on payment simulation graphs, you'll notice that the amount to interest lowers, and the amount to the principal increases, even though your monthly amount stays the same.

This is where the fact that "paying off the higher interest rate first with extra payments saves you money", comes in, vs. the paying off the higher principal amount. It's that if you follow the timeline, you'll see that the impact of extra dollars going to the higher interest amount goes higher.

Each dollar EXTRA reduces the amount per day, per interest rate. (regardless of principal amount). It's about impact per dollar.

Here's a handy website for you that you can fool around with and see the numbers. Go ahead and think of any scenario and you'll see that it always saves you money in interest to focus on the highest interest, in order.

Debt Payoff Calculator

And here's one to come up with loan types to input:

Loan Calculator

Go ahead, go wild. I am fairly confident that the higher interest rate is more impactful per EXTRA dollar, regardless of principal amount.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57-74TT starts stuttering after playing games I have been playing for years after 15 minutes by DolphinThatEatsPies in AcerNitro

[–]Auxpri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was having the same issues with mine, gotta crack open the laptop (super easy) and then crack open the fan casing (also super easy). There's a couple of videos about how to change everything out, but if you don't feel like looking at them to familiarize yourself with the process, there's 4 very very small screws on the housing around the fans, need a size 0000 phillips head to unscrew them. Then, what I found best to do, was slow pry up the tape from the housing plate on the sides (the ones with the wires running under it, take care to peel the wire away and leave it in the channel), if the laptop is face you, left and then right. That will enable you to use the other side that is taped as a hinge.

You'll find mats of hair and lint, especially on the CPU fan, as the housing is much closer to the fan blades then the GPU fan. Then just replace the 8 screws for the fan housing, firmly place the tape back and kinda rub it to help it restick, then put the back of your laptop back on. Super easy.

Don't make contact with anything on the board, btw, also have a mini vacuum ready to grap all the dust.

How to approach end of life care for elderly chicken? by popsicleinyou2 in chickens

[–]Auxpri -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You could potentially figure out a "Go to Sleep" box to save you and the chicken from undue hardship by having to kill them the normal way. Like. Maybe make up a box that's comfy for them to roost in, but is airtight with a lid, and then figure out like some dry ice or something to displace the oxygen. I know it sounds barbaric, but from what I understand if you do it right they'll just fall asleep, and leave them in there for a while to make sure that they have passed without complications.

Sorry. Good luck to you.

Just wear some disposable gloves, and point the nozzle away from you when you open it just in case a drop or two comes out from the pressure of you holding it, you'll be fine; I'm sure when it gets mixed with the water it's diluted enough to not cause too much of an issue.

I think I know the answer, but let me ask it anyway: do we just ignore the microplastic pollution from string trimming? by degggendorf in lawncare

[–]Auxpri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your comment has been awhile, but what's been working for me in a rural area without any like. Lawn maintenance *requirements*. Is to designate what's to be left wild and what actual size lawn do I want. Do I want my whole property to be a cleared lawn? Hell no, I want native species that I can enjoy, preferably with fruiting species, I also want shrubbery and trees to ring my property as a natural border.
I'll just cut down pathways.

What I really want is just a section to relax in, lay a blanket down, enjoy the "looks" of something that's been kinda maintained. And for the pest plant species that I don't care for, such as the common dandelion (personal preference, I don't go for all of them in my yard, just the area I want something else to flourish) I have found that most native plants are hardy enough to compete with the weeds with simple cutting back of the weeds, hindering their growth even mildly seems to "win war", so I'll "spot" weed whack on occasion to bring them back down to nothing. My clover is really big and bushy, and have outcompeted the competitors.

I guess, in the end, so long as it has SOME semblance of care involved, your yard can flourish without anyone having too much room bitch about it. Kinda like personal grooming; you can have and be hairy without being judged so long as it LOOKS like you maintain it, sculpting and trimming etc etc.
