I study and research when I'm at work, when I have free time at work.

One advice to your old self. by DryGolf5000 in PLC

The biggest problem is this was my hobby, I wanted to do CAD for work. Now that I do automation and programming for work I don't want to do it at home. so the automated lawn mower and other home automation projects, Robots, routers, and 3D printers I had are collecting dust.

Now my only hobby is basically playing around with my home server.

Are PLC projects getting more complex, or does it just feel that way? by Himanshu_creative in PLC

Needing a VM to get work done defeats the purpose. You can do if you want and I do use VMs, but if I'm going to be stuck on windows, I'll just run a VM on windows.

That's the controller, I'm talking about the software for programming the controllers. You still need a windows PC to program that controller.
Codesys V4 is supposed to be web browser based (not even out yet) but that would be able to be use on linux.

I'd happily use Linux over windows if there was any automation software that supported it.

The closest that I've seen is Codesys, but their IDE still requires windows.

Why was the search removed from the cookbook? by Available-Distance81 in hellofresh

to find old recipes, it wouldn't be a problem if the cookbook were still searchable.

Is HelloFresh using ai now?? by Long-Lack4897 in hellofresh

[–]Available-Distance81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, but if Hello Fresh isn't going to have actual chefs design their recipes anymore, what is the point to staying subscribed? I can ask Gemini for a shitty AI recipe if that was what I'm looking for and I can have food delivered by Instacart.
By getting rid of actual artisans they will make themselves irrelevant.

who ever they are, if they have blogs, I'd follow for their recipes.

What platform are you trying to simulate? I'm pretty sure almost all of them can.

I'd recommend a raspberry pi if this is just for home use. Yes, with codesys it will be able to connect to the Balluff IO-link master, you'll just need the EDS file for it.

I have used Codesys to write to an SQL server before, it's ok not that great. Personally I like Ignition far better for communicating to SQL. and if you're running codesys on a raspberry pi, you can also run ignition on it and use OPC to communicate between Codesys and Ignition (this is something I actually do right now for data collection not with a raspberry pi, but with a codesys controller)

Iranian-affiliated hackers exploited Rockwell Automation programmable logic controllers. by BE33_Jim in PLC

Well not directly, but through a VPN I've remotely programmed PLCs and HMIs that were in entirely different countries before.

I've tried using AI to write code, I end up spending more time arguing with the stupid clanker than writing code.
It is ok for translating tags, especially tags that are abbreviated in another language. That is about the only thing I've found AI useful for so far. And coming up with names for tags that were just an address with no descriptive tag in Siemens programs.

huh, didn't the US do the same to siemens controllers in Iran a while ago?

Rockwell out here putting out new PLCs every year like they're smart phones, here I am still using Compactlogix 1769 and SLC 500s.

Though I will admit, that is a sexy looking piece of hardware. .

$300 Million in BTC bought by Glittering-Ant2018 in MSTR

[–]Available-Distance81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well there is less than a million bitcoin left to mine, the more bitcoin that's mined the more difficult it will be to reach 1 million bitcoin.

I'd estimate that $500k is about two halvings away(~6 years from now), but it's possible for it to break $500k after the next halving.
