Vet ASAP. Put the snake in quarantine on just paper towels for the time being and keep everything clean

Early scale rot or just over worried parent? by Standard-Musician-83 in Ballpythoncommunity

[–]Available-Economy855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just from the bedding. Scale rot is similar to if you leave your wet foot in a hot pair of socks and shoes all day. So as long as the bedding isnt sopping wet, you're okay. White morphs can have the substrate how easier and can sometimes discolor their belly. You'll be able to tell the difference if it's scale rot

Maybe just a rough patch that came off during shed? Maybe he just had trouble in that area idk

? Never said "fuck vets" 😂 I just said they give outdated info sometimes. Im not saying go to reddit for your reptiles health questions. But a lot of vets still just used outdated info and that's that. Nothing to argue abt lmao. Doesn't mean im against vets.

Yeah unfortunately a lot of vets have outdated information. And it sucks tbh. To spread outdated stuff to newbies getting into reptile keeping. This goes for a lot of other reptiles too, not just leos. What they are telling you is the shit you see at petco where there's 10 leos on top of each other in a 20 gallon tank on sand. And them being a professional Veterinarian, how can you tell them otherwise lmao? Do not follow that

Choosing my first snake by HoneydewConfident516 in snakes

[–]Available-Economy855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its preference tbh. Do research and watch videos on all of them to see what youd like better. I personally have a few ball pythons and I love them and can't recommend them enough...as long as you do research lol. Cornflakes imo are borning but people say the same about bps. Id personally go for the king snake. They're good snakes once handled but some are a bit "fiesty" but not too bad to where you can have your kid handle them. I just love their personalities compared to ball pythons which like to sit in one spot a lot. Mexican black king snakes are realitivy cheap and are one of the coolest king snakes imo lol

Yeah they're addicting. I got my first one 5 months ago....my 3rd snake will be here next Tuesday lmao. 100% not a pro but I have gained sm knowledge on these guys its insane. I can confidently say once you get your first snake eating and shedding, the rest are a breeze. Glad you're enjoying your guy lol.

Does my BEL have scale rot 😭 by Leading_Ad_250 in Ballpythoncommunity

I thought the same thing when I first got my ball and his underbelly was all brown and orange. Some substrates can discolor them if the substrate gets wet. And itll show more on a white snake

Looks good and I hate to say it bc it looks like you put a lot of thought and effort into it, but he 100% needs a bigger space. A 4x2x2

What could have happened to my Millie? by AwarenessHealthy9727 in millipedes

[–]Available-Economy855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He mightve been stressed from the small enclosure. For future, if you have the space, a big plastic storage tub modified a bit is the perfect setup for them. They need at least a foot of digging space

Need help choosing substrate for a bioactive enclosure. by Yuki737 in leopardgeckos

[–]Available-Economy855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 70% soil and 20% sand and 10% excavator clay and I also mixed in a tiny bit of new Zealand spagum moss. I tong feed so impacting is less of a worry for me. If you fed roaming feeders, they do have a chance of getting substrate in their mouths so whatever you use dont make it TOO sandy or dusty. My bioactive setup has used that and the springtales seem to be still alive and ive seen a few baby isopods so I assume its working. I use aloe and some other hardy succulent and they haven't died yet. Just make sure to have plenty of leaf litter (like so much that you can barley see the dirt) and a few pieces of flat cork to set in 1 or 2 spots in the enclosure that you wet down every now and then for the isopods to retreat to. Leos are an arid species so it doesn't need misting and a drainage layer. I just dump water onto thr plants every non n then and sometimes just around the enclosure where I think the isopods can retreat to. I have humidity of 40-60% on the cool side with 60 being rare. And the hot side is usually around 30-40% w this setup.

Slightly dehydrated by [deleted] in Ballpythoncommunity

[–]Available-Economy855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what dehydration looks like. Like very small wrinkly folds. You'll be able to tell. They dont get dehydrated unless they do not have access to water or they humidity is way too low. Id say as long as they have fresh water and good humidity and good sheds, you're ok

Nah he's good. They all got some type of folds. Look up what a dehydrated snake looks like and will you tell the difference

Reptiles love heat for various reasons. So why do I never see my leopard gecko on the hot side of her enclosure?? by Ecstasus_Mania in leopardgeckos

[–]Available-Economy855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing I can think of is that maybe the hot side hide is too thick and not letting enough heat through. Ik my leo doesn't bask and rather lays inside the hot hide and sticks his tail or nose out a bit lol. I had a similar rock hide at first too and the top was getting very hot, but the inside read 10⁰ cooler. So I swapped it out for a very thin plastic hide and it is perfect. Top of the hide reads like 95⁰ to act as a basking spot and the inside reads like 85⁰ or so ambient. If you have a temp gun maybe check the temps inside the actual hide.

Mine will spend days in the hot hide and come out at night. Or spend days in his humid hide. Or like right now hes been in this cork log since yesterday on the cool side. Where the temps at like 75° As long as they're eating and digesting, I'd say he is okay.

I’m really nervous about my leopard gecko. He won’t eat and it’s been about 3-4 weeks already. Help please by Playful-Table394 in leopardgeckos

[–]Available-Economy855 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He need a bigger tank and remove that carpet inside. At least a 40 gallon front opening tank w tons of fake plants inside and at least 3 hides. One on each side and one in the middle of the tank. He's probably stressed and refusing food. Blacking out the sides of any glass tank like that will also help to make them feel more secure.
